I miss you

Nicholas stripped Karen off her first lady title and moved her to one of the rooms in the basement.

He was once a passionate and vibrant man but after his adopted mum died, he became a shadow of his former self, spending his days in the bar, drinking.

Karen did her things herself, cooking her food, washing her clothes and all.

One night, everywhere was quiet. The servants had retired to their quarters, and the family had long since gone to bed. Karen was just finishing her chores when she heard the sound of shuffling footsteps coming from the direction of the kitchen. Being curious, she moved closer, peering around the corner.

Nicholas stood at the top of the stairs, swaying slightly. His eyes were bloodshot, and the stench of alcohol clung to him like a second skin. Without a word, he descended the stairs, his movements unsteady. Karen felt her heart pounding in her chest.

“Karen” he called out, staggering.

Karen froze, her mind racing ‘’why is he calling me' she thought.
