Ten million dollars

Nicholas ignored the system, calling it fake. He left the restroom to the reception where Karen was.

The doctor had just finished talking to Karen, Karen was looking sad and worried.

"What did the doctor say?"Nicholas asked her.

Karen took a deep breath," The doctor said She is in a critical condition and if the payment isn't made today for her surgery to be performed today, She will die"

Nicholas felt crushed hearing that. He suddenly rushed out of the hospital, Karen called after him but he didn't answer her.

Nicholas went home to look for his golden ring, he had no choice but to sell it. He searched everywhere but couldn't find it.

"Did Camella take it?" He was worried, He checked under his bed and in his wardrobe but he didn't see it.

"No, Camella can't be that cheap to steal his golden ring" He sat on the bed, lost in thoughts, then he remembered he had checked a place.

He rushed to the kitchen and checked under the carpet and there it was.

He picked it and cleaned it with a piece of cloth.

"Thank goodness" He kissed the ring. He looked at the ring one last time, it had his parents' initial names; S&M engraved on it.

He took a cab to a pawn shop.

"How can I help you?"The owner asked.

"I'm here to sell something," Nicholas told him.

The pawn shop owner took a look at Nicholas and burst out in laughter.

"Sell something? someone like you?"

"Anything wrong?" Nicholas answered.

"Okay, let's see, What do you have to sell?" 

Nicholas brought out the golden ring wrapped in a white piece of cloth, and he placed it on the display table.

"That," He said.

The pawn shop owner raised his brown, mere looking at it, he knew this was money. How could someone like him get access to this golden ring?

"Did you steal it?"He asked him.

"I didn't."

"Where did you get it?"

"It's mine, it belongs to me."Nicholas pointed at his chest, but The pawn shop owner wasn't impressed.

"It's yours, so why are you selling it?"He pressed on.

"My mum is sick, I need money badly "Nicholas lamented showing the pawnshop owner the text message he received from the hospital on his phone.

"That's sad, How about you sell it for $60,000" 

"$60,000, for this? This is pure gold, are you kidding me" Nicholas blurted out.

The pawn shop owner shook his head in disapproval.

"I know but this is just a ring, I can only add 10 ten."He said, adjusting his eyeglasses.

"$70,000, nope."

"Ahem" He cleared his throat, "You badly need this money, think about your sick mother, do you want her to die?"

Nicholas was mute.

"Just take my offer and let's end it here" He winked at Nicholas and took the ring, admiring it.

Nicholas knew this man was exploiting him, he had to play this man at his own game.

Nicholas quickly collected the ring from the pawn shop owner and wrapped it back in the white piece of cloth.

"I can't sell this precious ring for that amount, There is another pawn shop down the next street, I will sell it to him instead." He said, making his way to leave but the pawnshop owner ran to stop him.

"Wait...let's talk, 90?" 

Nicholas rolled his eyes and opened the door.

"100?,I will give you $100,000" Nicholas paused and turned to him.

"$120,000 ?"

"C'mon man,$120,000 is too much"

"The other man offered $150,000, are you buying it or not?"Nicholas asked.

"Fine," The pawn shop owner shrugged.

He went back to his desk, counted the money, and handed it over to Nicholas, Nicholas counted the bundle given to him, nodded his head and gave the ring to the man, and left.

"Nice doing business with you, "The man called after him.

Nicholas rushed to the hospital and paid for Sarah's surgery. Karen was so happy that she hugged him but Nicholas withdrew from the hug. 

While they sat outside, waiting for the doctor, the screen appeared again.

"What? golden coins?"Nicholas' eyes were red.

"I sold my precious golden ring and all I can get is some stupid golden coins, are you kidding me!"He fumed.

"Those coins are useless as I can't use them in real life "He lamented, scratching his hair in frustration.

Hesitating, Nicholas touched the screen.

{Reward received successfully, now pressed change system coins to money}

"This is crazy," Nicholas muttered under his breath.

He pressed the buttons, following the system instructions but nothing happened.

The screen disappeared.

"Hey, where are you? Mr. system? hey, what's happening?"Nicholas called out but he got no reply.

"shit!"

He got up and left the hospital in annoyance. He boarded a taxi.

"To the mainland," He said to the driver.

His phone beeped.

Nicholas thought it was another emergency message or a message from the loan sharks but what he saw shook him to his marrow.

"Ten million dollars!"He screamed, staring at his account balance.

"Are you okay?"The taxi driver asked him.

"Omg!, is this real?" Nicholas asked.

He switched off his phone and switched it on again, then he checked his account balance, and it was still $10,000,000.

"No, this can't be real?"

"No!" he screamed and passed out. 

Nicholas woke up to the beeping of machines and weird odors, slowly he opened his eyes to see himself in a white room.

"My back hurts, ahh!"He heard a voice from his left. He turned to look, he saw a man talking to a nurse.

It dawned on him that he was in the hospital.

'What happened?'He thought.

The nurse attended to the man and came to check on Nicholas as he was awake.

"You are awake, "The nurse said, checking his vitals.

"How did I get here!"Nicholas asked.

"Someone brought you here, a man in his late thirties. He claimed you boarded his cab and fainted. Are you okay!"The nurse asked him, injecting a drug into him.

"I'm fine "Nicholas groaned in pain.

The nurse left.

Nicholas sat up and reached for his phone, he remembered the money he saw as his account balance and wanted to check if it was really there.

It was there untouched just as he left it $10,000,000. Nicholas screamed.

He has never come across this amount of money before. He remembered the system, surely it was real.

 "$10,000,000 just for me?"Nicholas wondered.

He danced and jumped in excitement.
