Chapter 4: This..., is my family?

Eliot took his time to take in all the excitement of this moment.

From getting his first kill in this strange new world that he found himself, to evolving from a virus into a Salmon, to discovering his improved attributes, to confirming infinite evolution and the incredible source of knowledge, everything was a lot for him to take in at once.

It took time for all the dopamine induced and the excitement of the moment to die down, this was when he finally became grounded in reality again.

And, this was when he noticed some things that he ignored previously.

‘Dash…, hmmm, that’s a skill fitting for a fish’.

‘Bite…, nice, that sounds badass’.

‘Devour…, that definitely sounds like the ability of a boss character, nice’.

‘Camouflage…, uhhh, it’s giving me spy vibes, OP?’

‘But…,’ He paused in his thoughts. ‘Mate…, what is that?’

His expression in his new fish form became unnatural. ‘Umm…, how is that a skill? Damn, this support system must have been created by a pervert!’

‘First, it calls me a virgin constantly now this’.

‘Gross…’

He felt pissed but his curiosity simply could not let it go. “Umm, this skill, does it mean like ahem…, cough…, the real thing?”

‘If I use it…, what will happen?’

Eliot was so drawn into his thoughts that he forgot everything else but just before he could lose himself completely in this abyss, he jolted himself awake.

‘F*ck!’

‘F*ck! I almost let myself fall to the dark side’.

‘All impure thoughts, get behind me’.

‘All impure thoughts, get behind me’.

A few oxygen pumps through his gills and he was finally good to go again, he finally paid attention to things that were actually important to him.

‘Completing the first mission rewarded me with XP’.

‘Perhaps, this support system is really like that wuxia fantasy shit that I read and it’s game-like and can enable me to level up. No wonder I have a level’.

He took a moment to calm down after making this realization.

‘Another thing is the bonus mission, unlike the first I was not rewarded with XP, rather I was rewarded with something evolution orb’.

This made him curious. ‘Are there other ways to evolution apart from my infinite evolution innate ability gotten from my ONE bloodline?’

‘Interesting…, it also says I can click for more information’.

And Eliot did just that.

Focusing his mind, he was able to access his support system again as he clicked on the reward of the bonus mission. It expanded before his eyes the next moment as lines of texts appeared before him.

[You have been rewarded with Single Species Evolution Orb!]

[Order received!]

[You have met the requirements to access this information!]

>The Evolution Orb is the only way for an organism to undergo evolution in Utopia. By digesting XP, organisms level up until they reach a climax point. To break the climax limit and undergo evolution, an Evolution Orb is required<

>The Single Species Evolution Orb enables organisms to enter a progressive evolution tree exclusive to only that species<

>The Multiple Species Evolution Orb enables organisms to break free from the shackles of their bloodline and species, granting them the ability to evolve into an entirely different organism and species with more potential and Utopian evolution blessing<

[NOTE: You can only make use of your Single Species Evolution Orb when you have met the XP requirements to reach a climax point.]

Eliot was amazed as he looked at the magical-looking orb floating before him.

While the support system was displaying information about the evolution orb, somehow, it was able to make its way out of the system and materialize.

It was a small orb pulsing with red energy filled with vitality.

“Umm, support system, since I can’t use the orb now, why did you materialize it for me to see? How can I keep it?”

[Inventory Unlocked!]

[Current Inventory Size: 6 Slots]

[Inventory Slots: 0/6]

Again, Eliot was amazed, everything felt so fantastical.

Having gotten some experience from his virus replication and infinite evolution already when he used them, he willed it again this time and it happened.

The orb disappeared and it appeared inside his inventory.

[Inventory Slots: 1/6]

‘This is useful!’ He was impressed.

Eliot took a bit more time to recover from all the adrenaline and excitement of everything that he had experienced since reincarnating into this world.

After leaving the fantasy of his system, he finally focused on this world.

No longer a virus but a Salmon now, he could observe around him better.

Like he suspected, he was inside a serene and clean water body at this moment. He was not in deep water though; he could see the sun peeking into this water body amid the shadows being cast by the rocks around him.

At the side, he could see the dead body of the Salmon that he just killed.

This answered one of his inner questions. Evolution did not mean him taking over the bodies of his targets like a parasite, his infinite evolution innate ability literally created a new body from him modeling the target that he killed.

Another thing that lingered in his mind was the evolution orb.

‘My innate ability seems like it was modeled after the evolution orb or was it the vice versa? I wonder what the relationship between them is’.

Like usual, he did not have any answer to any of these questions. To get answers to his questions, he had to leave this place and get out there.

‘I wonder if this is a lake or a river, or even an ocean’.

‘I’m still just a Salmon, I’ve not seen much but from the little that I’ve seen, I have no doubt that there’ll be terrifying predators out there’.

‘As a Salmon, I don’t have much means to protect myself’.

As soon as this concern came, his discipline to stay calm under pressure kicked in again as Eliot’s brain geared into overdrive, thinking of a solution.

The light bulb of innovation and ideas soon lit up in his head.

‘If I recall correctly, Salmons are mostly part of a school so why was the Salmon that I preyed on alone?’

‘He probably strayed away from his school which means they’re likely nearby’.

Thinking of this, Eliot finally tried to move.

“Umm…” He was left speechless.

Imaginary sweat dripped down his body as he observed his surroundings.

‘Damn!’

‘Swimming is not easy’.

Plop! Plop! Plop!

Eliot was not swimming at all.

He had all the resources, the tail, the fins, but at this moment he felt like a baby that was just learning how to walk.

He thrashed about like a drunk pussy cat.

Despite how clumsy he looked though, he managed to swim and finally Eliot moved from this shallow surface of water into…, an expanse.

Whoosh!

The current carried him forward, briefly disorienting him.

When he recovered, he heard a voice.

“Brother!”

“Brother! Where have you been?!”

‘Huh? Who’s that?’

Eliot struggled to look ahead only to freeze in shock.

At this moment, a battalion of Chinook Salmon swam ahead of him and one of them, a purple Chinook Salmon was the one who called to him at this moment.

“Brother!”

“Brother! Come! The Chief is leaving!”

“…”

“…”

“…..”

For what felt like a millennium, Eliot could not react.

“T-this…”

“This…, is my family?!”
