Chapter 2 - Task Reward

When Jake woke up the next morning, he had a weird headache. He immediately remembered what happened to his phone and sat up instantly grabbing the device.

"It has really changed." He muttered in surprise as he held the golden colored device in his hand.

The app, infinite wealth sat on the home screen, Jake hesitated before clicking on it and the moment he did, something popped up on the screen.

'Daily Task: Like and follow two female celebrities on I***a**** for reward.'

"Is this... really not a dream?" When he woke up, he'd almost believed the app and the change on his phone was just a dream.

He checked his bank app again, ten thousand dollars was sitting in his account untouched.

How was this even possible?

In order to test it more he went on i***a**** and scrolled around, he usually didn't use social media hence his following was very low. He liked and followed the first two female celebrities he came across and immediately he received a notification from the infinite wealth app.

'Ding! Daily task completed, reward received.'

Jake checked his bank, it was still the same.

What reward was the app talking about?

"Maybe it's unreal after all." Jake sighed and got out of bed, he got ready and left his apartment when he suddenly bumped into someone.

"Who the fuck is this blind idiot?" Joshua, the land lady's son cursed.

"Sorry, I should have watched where I was going." Jake apologized but Joshua sized him up and sneered.

"Sorry? If you ruined my new clothes do you think your damn sorry would have fixed it? Hey, I heard your wife was fucking some guy in your own apartment, a man who can't even keep his own woman is worthless."

Jake clenched his fist and pointed a warning finger at Joshua.

"Mind your business, don't make comments about my life."

"Don't you dare raise your voice at my son. What did he say wrong? Joshua was right, if you can't even keep your woman, you're nothing but worthless trash!" The landlady, a short and chubby woman walked over and butted in.

Jake was pissed at their comments, the wound from his wife's betrayal was still fresh.

"So what if she left? She's just a woman, there are thousands of them roaming on the streets, I'll just find another."

Joshua and his mother exchanged glances and burst out laughing.

"Just you?" The landlady said looking at him from head to toe, his clothes were old and faded though he was quite good looking no woman would look at him twice once she discovered his bank balance. "Don't kid yourself, even if you were to search for ten years, no woman would choose to be with a man like you. Diana did herself a favor by leaving."

Joshua chuckled and leaned towards Jake to say, "Actually if I knew Diana was willingly giving that kind of service, I would have paid her a visit or two. I've always been eyeing her body, I should have dropped a few dollars on her and she would willingly open up for me."

Jake no longer stopped himself, he threw a punch that landed squarely on Joshua's face, his mouth immediately began to bleed.

"How dare you hit my son? You piece of trash, I'll make sure you end up on the streets. Pack out of my house right now!"

Remembering he had ten thousand dollars in his bank account, Jake was unbothered, in fact it would be a relief to finally leave this broken down apartment.

"Gladly." He said before walking off.

"This bastard, does he think he can hit me and just walk away?" Joshua was infuriated, he got up and ran after Jake hurriedly.

Jake stopped in his tracks outside their broken apartment, he stared wide eyed at a shiny brand new black car and a few people gathered around watching the car in awe.

'Isn't this the newest mazda? If I remember correctly it costs around thirty thousand dollars.'

"Who owns this beautiful car? It looks so expensive!" Someone exclaimed.

'Ding!'

A notification sounded on Jake's phone. When he opened it, he saw the app infinite wealth.

'Daily Task reward: Brand new 2025 mazda3 sedan.'

Jake was stumped.

This car was actually...his?

Something jingled in his pockets and when he pulled it out, a nice looking car key was held in his hand.

Still In shock, he pressed the button and the car beeped.

This car was truly his!

The app was real!

Joshua and his mother ran out at this moment to witness Jake holding the car key and the shiny black vehicle beeping as he pressed the button.

"Where did this loser get this kind of car? Did you steal it?" Joshua yelled at this top of his voice.

Jake smirked and tilted his head to look at Joshua.

"Even if I did, someone like you can only own this type of car in your dreams. If I'm a loser, doesn't that make you the lowest scum beneath my shoes?"

"You..." Joshua didn't even get the chance to reply, his face turned red and his broken lips began to swell he could only watch in anger as Jake entered the beautiful looking car and drove away amidst awed looks from people.

The Mazda zoomed on the roads smoothly, Jake had never driven such a smooth car before. He'd gotten his license and later became an Uber driver before he'd gotten his job at oak house where he was fired.

'After years of hardship and struggle, is this really happening to me? Is my life really about to change?'

Jake quickly stepped on the brakes, he'd been lost in thought and hadn't noticed a woman stopping him on the highway.

"Excuse me, can you help me please? My car broke down." The woman leaned towards his window.

She was beautiful, with large eyes and her figure was perfectly molded into the shirt and skirt she was wearing, but her looks weren't the only thing he noticed.

He knew this woman.

'Isn't she Anita, the Managing director of Oak house company?'

He had seen this woman a few times in his previous company, but he was just a mere secretary to one of the company managers so he was sure she wouldn't know him.

Jake stepped out of his car to help her and her eyes widened.

"You're Jake right?" She looked up at him, her cheeks slightly pink with a blush.

"Yes, you know me?" He asked in surprise.

"I've seen you a few times at Oak house." Anita used to frequently visit the lower managers in the company. When she first saw Jake, she'd found him good looking but she had quickly looked away. Something about him always made her heart skip a beat but she was a naturally shy person so she'd never spoken to him before.

"Your battery seems to be dead, you'll need to get a new one." Jake said after helping her examine her car.

Anita showed a distressed look. "But I need to get somewhere urgently, I might be late."

"I can drop you off." Jake offered.

Anita had stopped the first car she'd seen, at first she'd been hesitant because people who drove nice looking cars like these usually behaved arrogantly. But she was surprised that Jake actually owned the car.

"This car is yours?" She asked Incredulously. Though it was just a Mazda, worth about thirty thousand dollars it was still a luxury for someone working as a secretary to afford.

Jake nodded and helped her open the car door, but just as she was about to get into the car, Ron Hamsey, a man who'd always admired Anita was driving by when he saw her about to get into a man's car, he immediately stopped and rushed forward.

"Anita, you should have called me if you needed a ride, you shouldn't have just agreed to enter any random stranger's car. Besides, this vehicle is way beneath you, it's just a Mazda, a woman like you shouldn't be seen in something so low class." Ron came forward smugly, he was wearing a Devian suit with a sleek Rossie F75 watch shining on his wrist, his entire look could easily cost over five thousand dollars.

Jake recognized this man, his eyes narrowed.

'Ptui, clean my damn shoes you idiot!' The last memory of his encounter with this man flashed into his mind.

'So we meet again.' Jake thought with a smirk.
