CHAPTER 07

If there was a time that Rena could never forget, it would be her first night after marriage. She just married one of the most handsome men she had ever seen in her life, and he was also the son of her mother’s elder brother. She knew him from a young age, and she would be lying if she said she was never attracted by his looks and contagious smile. But because they were cousins, she never dared to ask him out.

However, by a twist of fate, she ended up marrying him. Naturally, she had a lot of expectations on her first night, where she was ready to give her purity to her husband.

But then, by another bigger twist of fate, that entire night went by with Jim doing his best to just get his little brother up.

At first, she thought he was just tense, but as days went by, Jim was only barely able to harden his little brother, and this was nowhere near enough for doing anything. She secretly took him to the doctors and then understood that he has some rare complications, and that he might get cured if he were to follow a healthy diet.

Out of goodwill, Rena gave Jim three years to improve his sexual health, but he only kept disappointing her time and again, to the point she didn’t expect anything from him anymore.

In fact, she no longer even thought of him as a man. He was no more than a pretty doll to her eyes.

A doll that could move and talk and say things a husband generally would.

This was her current opinion on Jim.

So, when he locked the door and came toward her now, she didn’t feel hopeful or excited at all.

“Jim, this isn’t the time for nonsense,” Rena said. She was in her long black night skirt with sparkles studded here and there. “And I have a really important meeting at our company today, so don’t make me say it again.”

Jim froze in his steps because one word that came out of her mouth hurt him. “N-Nonsense? My love looks like nonsense to you?”

“Love without sex is the same as raising a fruitless tree, Jim,” Rena hissed in a low voice so that her mother who was outside wouldn’t be able to hear. In fact, Lola was trying to eavesdrop on their conversation, though she couldn't quite hear what they were talking about.

“Do you know that our health can be improved just by hugging a tree, whether it’s fruitless or not?” Jim said and was about to hug her, but she pushed him away.

“I said I don’t have time for this,” she hissed again.

Jim was emotionally hurt when she pushed him away.

About a minute later, the door opened, and Jim walked out. “I’ll make the coffee soon,” he told Lola and went downstairs in a hurry.

Lola looked confused. She entered her daughter’s room. “Rena, what exactly is going on between you two? It’s clear that something is wrong, but if you don’t tell me anything, how am I supposed to help you resolve the situation?”

“Trust me, there’s nothing you can do about it,” Rena replied, sounding impatient. “Besides, I’ll only have to deal with it for a month. After that, I’ll tell you everything.”

“Only for a month? What does that even mean?”

Rena frowned and said, “Jim gave us his money, didn’t he? So, how about you buy him a small restaurant for starters, Mom? We owe him at least much.”

“H-Huh? Where’s this coming from?” Lola looked surprised. “He’s working for us in this house, so let him do just that.”

“No. Look for a small restaurant and register it in his name,” Rena both insisted as well as demanded. If she were to divorce Jim, it wouldn’t be good if Jim were to continue living in this mansion, so Rena was planning in a way Jim would be able to live on his own.

After saying what she wanted to say, Rena went into the washroom.

Lola went into deep thinking because Rena wasn’t like Shiney who would speak without thinking. If Rena said something, she would have already thought about it for a long time. So, Lola felt a bit pressured now. “If I register a restaurant in his name, he’ll likely get successful and earn us money, but then he might not want to live with us anymore. If he’s anything like my brother, he will likely take my daughter away from me.”

Lola purposely bought a big mansion because it’d easily fit even a dozen people. So when her grandchildren were born, nobody would feel congested in the house or feel the need to go to another house.

While she was still thinking, Jim brought her coffee. “Give me thirty minutes. I’ll prepare breakfast.” Saying that, he was leaving, but she called out his name, making him stop and look back.

“Jim, why don’t you tell me what exactly is going on between you and Rena?” Lola got up from the bed while holding the coffee cup and the saucer. “You two haven’t been talking well for a long time. I noticed that there were times when you two don’t talk for days if not weeks. If you keep things like this, then what’s the point of staying married?”

Jim was startled. “What are you suggesting, Aunt?”

“If you can’t get along well, you should just get a divorce,” Lola stated calmly, appearing as soft and innocent as she could while hiding a sharpened knife in her heart.

Jim’s heart felt squeezed. “Y-You were the one who asked me to marry your daughter, and now you’re telling me to divorce her?” His words were being heard by Rena from the bathroom; however, how could she know how heavy his heart felt at the moment? “If that’s what you and Rena want, then fine. I’ll do it, but… I want my money back.”

Lola’s heart skipped a beat.
