JONATHAN : Son-in-law Who Suddenly Becomes a Millionaire.

-A Condition-

Jonathan came home feeling quite happy, but that feeling didn’t last long. How could he not, in front of Jonathan’s house he saw two cars parked nicely. Jonathan knew that one of the cars belonged to his in-laws, but Jonathan had no idea of whose car was the other. What was clear was that the car was very luxurious, even Jonathan could only see the car on TV at the launch at a very fantastic price.

Jonathan quickly walked to his house. As he opened the door of the house, he saw that there were already many people. There were his in-laws sitting embracing each other, there was also his wife sitting alone on a wooden chair while embracing her arms with a tense face. Jonathan knew that in this situation ... it was clear that his wife was not comfortable at all. There was Amaris who laughed out loud, there was a handsome man with  expensive suit. More than that, on the table there was a suitcase full of money.  Jonathan had never even seen that kind of money in all this time.

“Oh My God, the jobless man finally come.  I didn’t expect that waiting for a jobless man like you would take such a long time!” Amaris, who saw Jonathan enter the house, immediately shouted.

Jonathan stepped in, feeling quite annoyed. He glanced back at the man wearing the expensive suit. The man looked at Jonathan as if he looked down on him, then he turned his head away, and his gaze was fixed on Elissa—Jonathan’s wife. Of course, when he saw that Jonathan increasingly despised him.

“John, you’re finally home. Come here, sit beside me.”  Elissa, who felt relieved at Jonathan’s return, immediately grabbed Jonathan’s arm, bringing Jonathan to sit beside her.

“What is it?” Jonathan asked.

“I don’t know, it’s just that when I was going to leave Grandpa’s birthday party, Mom and Dad took me home. Suddenly Amaris followed along with a friend.  They brought money with all the bullshit she was spouting.”

“Bullshit?” Jonathan asked.

“This is not bullshit, Elissa. Come on, you are my prettiest cousin. You’re from the Weldien family, you are the only prettiest granddaughter in the Weldien family. Haven’t you ever felt that so many young entrepreneurs really want to be side by side with you? Then you so foolishly decided to marry a poor man named Jonathan who is now a perpetually unemployed.”  Amaris glanced at Jonathan, but Jonathan didn’t respond at all.

“Now the opportunity has come openly for Elissa, where a friend of mine who is the owner of the largest company in this country wants to provide assistance regarding the challenge given by Grandpa. As we all know, of course, that Grandpa’s farm on the outskirts of town is in a dead, barren, and hopeless plantation. Let alone giving a fifteen percent profit from the farm, growing weeds on the farm alone would be an absolute feat. So, I came here with my friend, Luke. We’d like to offer Elissa a helping hand. We are willing to be a donor for Elissa in developing the farm into a fertile farm and have a profit of more than fifteen percent. In fact, we have prepared five hundred million dollars to provide funds to Elissa for free, Elissa does not need to return these funds at all. As long as Elissa wants to leave Jonathan and marry Luke.”

Jonathan was shocked beyond words by the surprising conditions given by Amaris, he had absolutely no idea that Amaris’ arrival was to persuade Elissa with a large sum of money to leave him and marry Amaris’ friend named Luke.

Jonathan looked at Luke, indeed from his appearance Luke had won a lot. It seemed clear that Luke was a wealthy man, it was all seen from the suit and all the stuff he wore. It was just that for Jonathan, the marriage relationship was of course not that easy. It was impossible to separate just because of money and position.

“What Amaris said is true, Elissa. What are you waiting for? The opportunity is right before your eyes, and Luke is willing to wait until your divorce from Jonathan is finalized. This is a chance for you so that you can get your grandpa’s heart. Stop being stupid by holding on to an impossible marriage, Elissa. You and Jonathan are like earth and sky, don’t force something that can’t be forced. If you stay with Jonathan, what can Jonathan give you? He can’t even give you anything, other than poverty, misery, and many more sufferings that you had never experienced before. Elissa, you are a Weldien family, who was born as the granddaughter of a rich man in this country. How could you want to stay and live together with a poor and unemployed man like Jonathan? If you persist with Jonathan, then it will be impossible for you to complete your grandfather’s challenge, and you will be removed from the Weldien family.”

Jonathan now looked at Elissa, actually all decisions were in Elissa’s hands. Jonathan didn’t want to influence Elissa so that Elissa made a decision just because she had to, then Elissa secretly regretted it. Now Jonathan was silent beside Elissa, his wife was silent for a moment. Elissa’s hands felt cold in Jonathan’s grip. Jonathan was sure that the decision that Elissa would make was not an easy one.

“Mom, didn’t I tell you even before I married John? I really love him. I have no problem if I have to go through a hard life as long as I can be together with John. More than that, after I married John, my last name was not Weldien anymore, but Enstein. So stop acting like this,” Elissa said very firmly.

“Amaris and Luke. Thank you for all your good intentions. I really appreciate your efforts to help me so I can pass the challenge given by Grandpa. But once again, I will try alone with my husband, whatever the solution, I will do it with John.”

“Are you sure about your decision, Elissa?” Amaris was starting to get annoyed. “Look at your husband, Jonathan Enstein. He’s an unemployed person who doesn’t have any income, even to eat ... you have to sell milk to all the neighbours in this district. You worked so hard, even you never did such a job when you were a member of the Weldien family, while this shameless unemployed man’s job are only eating and sleeping for free in a house that has been brought by uncle and aunt. Don’t you feel that you have been used by your unemployed husband?”

Elissa shook her head perfectly, and that irritated Amaris even more.

“What do you see in Jonathan? He’s just a man with a slightly handsome face. Other than that, Jonathan doesn’t have anything. His clothes are shabby, cheap clothes that a beggar often wears, he doesn’t work and he gives you trouble.”

“I love him, Amaris.”

“Are you blind or dumb, Elissa? Do you think your love for the unemployed can make you live rich? Obviously Luke is far above the unemployed who has no self awarenesses, Luke’s face is no less handsome than Jonathan’s, Luke is a successful businessman, and Luke will give you five hundred million dollars voluntarily as long as you leave Jonathan and marry Luke!”

“If Luke gives Elissa five hundred million dollars, then I will give Elissa two billion dollars voluntarily, to finance the farm that Mr. Weldien gave Elissa and for Elissa to make a profit of fifteen, no … thirty  percent within a year, only a year.”  Jonathan finally spoke.

And of course, that actually invited the laughter of many people who were there. To everyone present, Jonathan was either drunk, dreaming, or even bragging about all these preposterous lies.

“Are you drunk, John? Are you aware of what you’re saying?” Amaris burst out laughing. “You said you will give Elissa two billion dollars, where do you get that kind of money? You don’t even have a dollar. Come on, stop joking. Because this joke of yours doesn’t match the reality at all.”

“I was not joking. If I say I can give Elissa two billion dollars, that means I really can.”

Now Jonathan’s words were taken seriously by everyone there. Although of course they still did not believe it at all.

“Okay, well. I want to see and witness Jonathan actually giving the two billion dollars to Elissa as capital to develop her farm on the outskirts of town to convince me that it’s not just Jonathan’s boasting.” Elissa’s father immediately spoke.

“How about we give Jonathan a little challenge, Uncle?”

“Challenge?”

“Yes. Wasn’t he the one who agreed to give Elissa two billion dollars in capital, right? So here we go, we’ll give Jonathan time to think through his stupid imagination for two weeks, prove it to us by showing us the two billion dollar bill in front of us. Then we’ll believe in Jonathan and stop forcing Elissa to separate from Jonathan. However, if Jonathan can’t prove all of his stupid boasting, then Jonathan must voluntarily let Elissa go, divorce Elissa, and let Elissa marry Luke. How about that?”

Elissa held her breath perfectly, she never thought that her marriage would be made a bet by Amaris.

“John.” Elissa was getting restless.

“Okay, no problem at all. Don’t take too long, Amaris. Come to our house the day after tomorrow, I will show you openly that I will give the two billion dollars directly to Elissa.”

“John!” snapped Elissa.

“Calm down, Babe. Nothing will happen to our marriage.”

“Where did you get that kind of money from? Stop joking!”

“You don’t need to think about that, what you need to think about is, do something firm so they will stop disturbing our marriage.”

“But—”

“Trust me, our marriage will be fine.”

Elissa could only exhale heavily, then she nodded her head perfectly.

“Okay, I’ll entrust everything to John.”

“Get ready to part ways with Jonathan, Elissa. Immediately pack Jonathan’s things and kick Jonathan from your house.”

“Stop belittling my husband, Amaris!” Elissa said angrily.

“Didn’t you give me a challenge earlier at the Weldien family residence, Amaris? Then you come again with impolite. Stop talking and go ahead, we’ll prove it the day after tomorrow. And if I can prove what I said,” Jonathan said halted, he looked at Amaris with his sharp eyes. “Don’t forget to kneel in front of me and kiss my feet, beg for my forgiveness, and stop saying all those useless things.”

Amaris swallowed hard, Jonathan’s threat was enough to make her tremble. Then, she laughed to cover up the fear that was starting to creep up her heart.

“Do not dream! Precisely you are the one who will kneel to me later, begging for my mercy so that your marriage with Elissa can be saved! You stupid unemployment!”

After saying that, Amaris asked Luke to leave with her. Not long after, Elissa’s parents also left.

Only Elissa and Jonathan were in the room. Elissa immediately sat up perfectly while massaging her temples that felt so sore.

“You’re crazy, John!” Elissa  was still angry. “You know who Luke is, right? He is the owner of the number one company in this country, he can only give me five hundred million dollars as capital. How can you even boast that you want to give me two billion dollars as capital? Where’s the money coming from, John?” Elissa was starting to worry, but she was not worried about Jonathan’s boasting.

Elissa was worried that her marriage to Jonathan will really end just because of Jonathan’s stupidity because he was emotionally provoked by Amaris’s words.

“Haven’t I told you many times that you should never listen to and take to heart the words of the Weldien family? They don’t like our relationship from the start, especially Amaris. You just have to ignore them and everything will be fine, John. I will stay with you no matter what.”

“Elisa, calm down. You don’t need to be this worried. I know that maybe you think I’m really going too far by saying I want to give you two billion dollars in capital, right? Moreover, the time is only limited to the day after tomorrow. You don’t have to think much, Elissa. If I have said I will give you two billion dollars, then I really will give you the money the day after tomorrow. That’s my promise, and I will never break a promise.”

Elissa could only remain silent, she nodded stupidly. Jonathan’s words were so convincing. Even Elissa felt that Jonathan would be able to prove to her family that Jonathan was capable. Even though Elissa had no idea where would Jonathan get that kind of money from. It could even be said to be impossible.

“Yes, I believe in you, John.”
