"Jason, you've been looking in there for a while now; there's nothing there that I haven't already written off,” Diana said as Jason rummaged through her wardrobe.

It was the night of the reunion, and after hopelessly scanning through her wardrobe for something to wear, Jason offered to help Diana, saying he could find something because he had a ‘fresh set of eyes'.

“The event is starting in an hour... Maybe I should tell Renee I got sick and won’t be able to make it." Diana muttered to herself.

Jason left her things and went over to his wardrobe to get the dress that he had bought for her.

Diana furrowed her brows in confusion. “You want me to wear one of your..." Her words were caught in her throat, and her eyes widened when Jason pulled out a stunning red dress.

It was a sleek, little red dress, crafted from luxurious fabric, a Henrik’s original piece. Its modest length was complemented by delicate lace and an elegant neckline.

Jason and Diana eventually got separated as the night went on. As one of the most popular girls in their class, Diana was being greeted and talked to by anyone and everyone, and with Renee by her side, the attention was magnified. On the other hand, most people didn't remember Jason. He had only been with them for a year, so it didn't really bother him. Plus, he didn't like most of the people here.Nearly all of them had ridiculed him during his time in university for not being as well off as the rest of them.He also wasn't in the mood to socialize; if his issues with Diana weren't enough to occupy his thoughts, now there was a situation with Bruno and Amara. It was easy for him to not mind keeping Andrew in the dark; he was a dick and probably wouldn't take Jason’s word anyway. But Renee was a kind woman who he didn't want to see hurt.Sadly, just like in the Andrew case, there was the problem of his word against the word of her spouse. He heaved a sigh and ran his hands through his

He chuckled, mocking, “You’re really aiming big Thrifty Jay, you think you’re going to end up with my car? " I’m game.” Damien smirkedJason smiled and said, "Perfect." The onlookers were all convinced that Jason was crazy or too cocky for his own good. How could anything a pauper like Jason bring an artwork more valuable than Damien’s, a show-off who took every opportunity to brag and let it be known that he was the wealthiest in the room?Internally, Jason was satisfied; a subtle smirk played on his lips, knowing exactly how things would play out. He had specifically told Timothy to get the most valuable artwork by Dorian Theodorus, a Greek sculptor who was very skilled but not known by many. Not only because of the value but also because he remembered that Renee was a lover of Greek sculptors and Greece in general.Jason, Damien, and the rest of their ex-classmates, who were now investe

Everyone looked over to Damien, who was now as red as a tomato. He thought of bolting right then and there; his father had recently cut him off, and if he were to give Jason the Mercedes, he'd have to become best friends with the bus. But he knew that if he didn't keep his end of the deal, it would only add to his humiliation.Just as Diana was about to question how Jason was able to afford such an expensive piece, Damien walked up to their table.Everyone watched, anticipating what Damien would do next. They were still awestruck by the value of the sculpture Jason presented. Damien stood in front of Jason and said, “You win dickhead." he begrudgingly mutteredJason addressed Damien. “You know what, Damien? You can keep your car. He wasn't upset with her because she didn't choose him. Yes, it hurt him, but he understood that Stephen had put her between a rock and a hard place. What he was most upset about was that she didn't come clean to say that she chose her family. Instead, she tried to use the excuse that she was divorcing him because of his alleged infidelity. He let out a cold chuckle as he thought of how he had intended for this night to end. He wanted to present the necklace to her and finally fill the jewelry box. Not just that, but beyond the night, he planned on finally stepping up.As he retraced the events of the night, he put the pieces together. It had been an hour since Jason and Diana signed the papers. It had been an hour since they ended a three-year union in about three seconds. It had been an hour, and in that time, Jason should’ve already reached the apartment and called Timothy and Reuben to meet up with him like he said he would. But he was still parked a few blocks away from the Sinclair mansion, sitting still in the driver's seat, staring into the distance, dazed.A single tear traveled down his cheeks as he thought of what he had just done. This is exactly why he wanted to sign the papers today; he knew that if he waited for even a day, he wouldn’t trust himself to sign them. What hurt him more was that when he looked back at their marriage, he didn’t have memories of laughter or warmth. Maybe in the honeymoon stage, but most of it was Diana’s silent disdain. TWO YEARS LATER For the first time in two years, Jason had come to see his grandfather and mother. He stood before the grave, staring at the name engraved on the marble headstone in bold and grand letters. MICHAEL ALLEN GREY He shifted uncomfortably, his hands buried deep in his pockets. “Hi, Grandpa,” he said, his voice quiet and uncertain. The word still felt foreign to him, but it was starting to feel less so. “Grandpa. It’s getting easier to say that, I think. Every time I come here, it’ll get a little easier.” Jason took a deep breath, looking down at the bouquet of lilies in his hand. “Well, I don’t really know what to say, but Diana advised I should just speak from the heart.” A small smile crept on his lips when he said that. Diana had been so supportive throughout his journey with grief. She was the one that gave him the final push to see his grandfather and mother after he’d avoided it for so long. He didn’t think he’d be able to bear the pain of coming to this

The stark fluorescent lights of the hospital buzzed faintly as Jason paced outside the emergency room. The air smelt sterile, but Jason’s mind was anything but clear. Paramedics wheeled Abigail through the double doors, her body limp on the stretcher. His voice cracked as he followed close behind, gripping her cold hand.“It’s going to be okay, Mom,” Jason whispered, his voice trembling. “Everything’s going to be okay. I promise.”Reuben stood to the side, phone in hand, ensuring every necessary call had been made. The police had taken Connor’s lifeless body, and an ambulance had quickly arrived to transport Abigail. Lana, shaken but safe, had already been returned home.As Abigail disappeared into surgery, Jason remained rooted in place, staring at the doors as if willing them to open and bring her back. His chest heaved with uneven breaths, his hands clenched into fists.“Jason!”The familiar voice jolted him, and he turned just in time to see Diana rushing toward him. Without hesit

The call Jason had made on his way to the warehouse was to Reuben. He instructed him to draft a fake deed and place it in a briefcase along with a gun. He also told Reuben to park nearby, out of sight of Connor, but not to leave completely. Reuben was instructed not to come upstairs to the warehouse, as Jason wasn’t sure what Connor might be capable of. Jason made it clear that Reuben should stay safe and avoid any unnecessary risks.Reuben, of course, took some creative liberties with the document.“Let my mother and daughter go. Now.”Jason’s hand trembled as he pointed the gun at Connor, the weight of the weapon foreign and heavy in his grip. Connor froze, fury burning in his eyes. He slowly reached for his own gun, drawing it with a deliberate, practiced motion. “Or,” he sneered, “I can always shoot you, your mother, and then your daughter. In that order.”Jason didn’t flinch. His tone was like steel. “Try it. See how that goes for you.”“Your hand is literally shaking,” Connor d

Weeks had passed since Lana’s surgery. She had been discharged from the hospital, and to celebrate, Diana threw a small, intimate party. Everyone who had taken the test and waited alongside her for the surgery to finish was invited—except for Christopher, who had quietly exited her life after learning he wasn’t Lana’s father. Christopher sent his regards to Diana and even sent a congratulatory message to Jason, acknowledging his newfound role as a father. The other person who couldn’t be in attendance was Michael. He was still under observation at the hospital, something that worried Jason. The worry for Lana’s health was out of the way, but it was replaced by worry for Connor’s next move. Connor, still being on the loose, gnawed at him daily. Each day without Connor in a prison cell—or, preferably for Jason, buried six feet underground—heightened his fear for his mother’s safety. That week, Jason had finally decided to hire bodyguards for Abigail, wondering why he hadn’t done so soo
