Jason and the Enigmatic System

Chapter 5

I couldn't help but wonder what the weekend had in store. "Is that Jason?" someone exclaimed. "He looks different."

Turning around, I noticed several female students eyeing me curiously. I couldn't quite grasp what was so different about me.

I stepped into my dorm room and closed the door behind me. Panic surged through me as I couldn't find the gaming app on my phone anymore. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I frantically scrolled through the screen, searching for it like a madman. "Where is it?" I shouted, my hands trembling with agitation.

The thought of reverting back to my old self terrified me. I recalled the smug expression on my face as I squandered the money I'd received from the system, relishing in rubbing it in Dominic and Sophia's faces. Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered the deal I had with Paulina, knowing it would require me to spend some money.

I collapsed onto my bed, shutting my eyes tightly in an attempt to find solace in sleep. The chirping of a bird outside stirred me awake, and I groggily checked the time. Dragging myself out of bed, I trudged towards the bathroom, a routine I'd grown accustomed to.

Passing by the mirror, I paused and then doubled back. I reached for my spectacles on the table and hesitantly put them on, only to realize I didn't need them anymore. A smile spread across my face as I marveled at my newfound clarity of vision.

Glancing back at the mirror, I froze in disbelief. Overnight, I had developed muscles that I hadn't worked for in the gym. I let out a laugh, unable to believe my eyes. Pinching myself, I questioned, "Is this even real?" as if to confirm I wasn't dreaming. My chest felt broader, and I couldn't comprehend where the muscle had come from. Excitement coursing through me, I eagerly made my way into the bathroom to start my day with a refreshing shower.

I grinned to myself as I applied cream to my newly toned body. Suddenly, a thought struck me: could this be related to the system? I mused quietly while smoothing lotion over my skin. Glancing at the time, I realized I was running late for class. Hastily, I attempted to put on my shirt, only for it to tear apart as soon as I managed to wriggle into it. "I need something bigger," I chuckled, momentarily forgetting about the system. With my intimidating physique, I no longer had to fear Dominic and Carlos.

As I sauntered through the school corridors, whispers trailed behind me, with people marveling at my sudden transformation. It was a perplexing mystery, one that even I couldn't comprehend.

My gaze lifted and met Sophia's approaching figure. I could see the admiration in her eyes, and I couldn't help but chuckle. I knew she was impressed. Lost in thought, I accidentally bumped into Paulina. Stooping to pick up her books, I met her astonished gaze. "Jason? Is that really you?" she questioned, disbelief evident in her voice as she took in my muscular arms and defined biceps. "How did this happen?" she inquired.

"Not entirely sure. Even if I told you, you probably wouldn't believe me," I responded cryptically.

Eager to provoke jealousy in Sophia, Paulina drew closer to me, helping me button up my shirt. With a mischievous grin, she ensured that the surrounding students were watching as she gently planted a kiss on my lips.

The students all looked at us " I will see you after class." Paulina blew me a kiss and walked away. I looked at her and wondered why she was going so far as to make Sophia jealous. I walked to my class and noticed the video of my kiss with Paulina had circulated through the school.

{ THE SCHOOL PROM NIGHT }

It was the day the whole student had been waiting for. I looked at my phone and saw Paulina's missed calls. I knew she was going to talk about the prom night. I had planned on missing it because I was broke and the system was not reaching out to me. Maybe it was just a ruse or something that I had imagined in my head. I watched as the students all went out of their dorms dressed in suits and gowns. I looked at my phone and saw Paulina's call again. " I am seeing you tonight Jason and don't you think about standing me up. " She said with a stern voice 

I knew I wasn't going to go but I said yes. 

I looked at the time and saw it was time to get ready. My phone kept ringing and I decided to pick it up. 

Many of the students had gathered waiting for me to show up. Some wanted to make fun of me while some new students wanted to know who the hottest boy in school was 

" I told you he is not coming. Poor Jason." Sophia said smiling at Paulina as she folded her hands together. Paulina took out her phone and called me again. She heard a ringing tone and looked up. Everyone stared in my direction as I walked toward the ballroom. " Is that him? Is that Jason?" The ladies kept asking making their boyfriend a little jealous. 

" You stood me up?" Paulina walked towards me with a smile. I had worn the suit she bought for me. " This looks good on you. Shall we?" She said with her hand on mine. 

As I took a step, I heard a gaming sound and I looked at my phone. " It is back. The system is back." My lips parted with a smile.
