CH006: Where Is Our Friend?

“You… Didn’t you say you are allergic to veggies? You wouldn’t even share a seat with anyone eating veggies! What are you doing now?” Eric was the first to accuse him.

He looked at the huge bowl in front of Jed again. It was vegetarian pasta with a lot of vegetables the latter used to hate.

”Where is our friend and what have you done to him?” Ben suddenly asked. “The Jed I know will never taste the smallest spinach even if you threaten to take his games from him.”

Jed laughed nervously and scratched his head. “Guys, c’mon, don’t act like this is such a big deal. You always complain that I should try to lose weight and that is what I am trying to do. No more junk food till I look like you guys.”

“Since the fall, you have been acting strange. Are you sure we don’t have to visit the infirmary?” Eric was still worried.

“I’m fine. Eat up or your meals will get cold,” Jed urged them before facing his meal again.

Ben smiled heartily. He doesn’t know what happened to Jed but he knows he definitely likes this new change. He hated the weak Jed that was so easily bullied by everyone.

The next morning, Elites High was thrown into uproar. Every student in the dormitories had their noses buried in their phones.

They were all engrossed in the latest trending news on the school page that had been leaked from social media where it had gone viral.

However, the one involved in this scandal was currently asleep in one of secluded dorms in the boy’s hostel. His roommates weren’t so calm.

“Jed… Jed… Wake up,” Eric shook him vigorously, making the quilt covering him fall.

“Hmm… Hmm… I’m… Awake,” he murmured sleepily, sluggishly sitting up on the bunk bed. Eric waved his phone in his face.

“Look at this… Just take a look at this… You are trending!”

Jed was still half-asleep when he read one of the headlines on the screen. [THE SECRET IDENTITY OF THE JETTI’S ILLEGITIMATE CHILD EXPOSED!]

Sleep eluded him instantly and he grabbed the phone to read the news page. Ben sighed worriedly, “Cullen has never treated you well before. Now that he knows you are actually related, I’m afraid of what he’ll do to you.”

‘Ping! It is almost time. User must be mentally prepared for the hurdles to come. Vendetta will be here to assist user when necessary,’ Vendetta spoke. Jed nodded.

“By the way, your body assessment is looking good. The skill you acquired was quite useful. But you should also focus on your pitiful grades. Try to complete more minimal tasks as soon as possible to earn more reward points,” It added.

“Thanks for the reminder,” Jed acknowledged as he skimmed through the news page. The revelation of his identity was the current top second hot/trending news on the web.

“It’s best if you don’t attend class today,” Ben suggested. “Who knows? The reporters might be lurking around. This news is not good for your safety at all. Whoever has done this must be so cruel to do this to a high school sophomore.”

He didn’t expect Jed would immediately refuse. “Why should I hide away because of this minor news? The entrance exam is fast approaching and I can’t afford to miss classes now because of something this insignificant?”

“Only you could remain this optimistic after your relationship to one of the wealthiest families in the country is exposed. But you have never been this enthusiastic about your studies before,” Eric hailed him.

Ben saw that he couldn’t persuade Jed to change his mind so he let him be. Besides, they were having a mock test in preparation for their entrance exam that morning so it wouldn't be good for him to skip class even though they already knew he was going to fail his tests like he always did.

As Jed walked in the hall, he could feel students talking about him and pointing at him. He even heard some of their thoughts.

‘I heard Cullen didn’t come to school today. It’s probably because of the scandal that broke out. What right does this rascal have to keep the school prince away from us? What right does he even have to be associated with my heartthrob?’

‘No one expected this twist of fate. How did this Dumbo get so lucky to be a son of that powerful family?’

‘I’m afraid this fatso life will be more miserable from now on but who cares? More shows for us to watch.’

And so many more.

Jed was amused by some of their thoughts. To think that some people were actually envying him. Haven’t they heard the saying “all that glitters is not gold”?

They finally got to their class and Ben was just about to push open the door when a junior came over to them.

“The principal has demanded to see Jed in his office immediately,” she relayed the message without taking her eyes off Jed who felt uncomfortable with her persistent look.

He nodded and reassured his friends, particularly Ben, who was already looking worried that he was in trouble because of the scandal.

When he got to the principal’s office, his brows arched when he saw that the principal was not alone. There was a man, looking like the principal’s age mate. He was dressed in a formal attire of black and white. If Jed didn’t know better, he would have called the man a butler.

“Jed, this is Peter,” the principal pointed at the man. Before he could carry on, Vendetta displayed Peter’s bio in that familiar chat box;

Name: Peter Manchester.

Status: Single.

Age: 46.

Profession: Jetti’s family butler.

Attractive Quality: Bootlicking.

“Pfft,” Jed laughed when he saw the last word. How is bootlicking an attractive quality? Vendetta really knows how to joke around.

The principal and Peter didn’t find his laughter funny at all. “What is so funny to Mr. Jetti?” the principal asked grimly.

Jed realized what he had done and the laughter turned to an awkward cough.
