CH005: What's Wrong?

Jed looked at the teacher and a virtual box containing her essential bio appeared on her head;

Name: Mary Henshaw.

Status: Married.

Profession: Calculus teacher.

One Relationship Found: Paternal aunt to Jane Doe.

Now he understands. so she was trying to defend her niece from embarrassment.

Before anyone could refute, Mary gave the students a cold glare and one after the other, although they didn’t want to and they knew what she was trying to do, they began to speak up in Jane’s defense. Who in the entire school doesn’t know that Jane is her favorite student?

“Yes, it is true. We gathered here because Jed invited us to the assembly ground to witness his proposal to Jane.”

“I didn’t want to come but he practically begged.”

As the students shouted, the teachers came to a conclusion. “Alright… Alright… Everyone is dismissed. Jed will be taken to the principal’s office to be duly punished.”

Even Eric and Ben didn’t couldn’t contradict this claim as Jed had indeed broken the rules. Although students date, they do it secretly.

They exchanged a look of regret. If only their naughty friend had informed them about his plans before acting, they would have warned him.

Jed was speechless. He exposed the lies of these annoying couples but still got punished. Life is so not fair.

As the teachers led him away, Ben whispered,” I bet Mrs. Mary said all that to protect her favorite students. I don’t understand why she is so biased to that so-called Elite class yet treats people from our class differently.”

Jed gave Jane and Cullen one last glance. The latter had a satisfied look on his face. Even though his plan for Jed didn’t go as planned, he still got punished. Jed turned away with a deep look. If only Ben knows things aren’t as simple as he thinks.

After listening to the allegations laid against Jed, the principal who was a middle-aged man with a powerful demeanor issued his punishment.

Jed was to perform ten laps around the school field every day for a week. The teachers thought this was the perfect punishment for Jed.

Everyone in the school knows that because of his overweight stature, he would usually skip training sessions as his body couldn’t condone the stress of menial and strenuous exercises. Even Eric and Ben were worried.

‘Why are they so cruel? Jed can’t even jog for some seconds not to talk of running,’ Eric thought.

Jed ignored this thought and turned around to leave,” I’ll carry out my punishment right away.” He was actually eager to burn off this excess in his body.

“Good but if you don’t complete your punishment, you will be suspended till the commencement of the entrance exams,” the principal answered, expecting him to accept defeat right away.

Ben gritted his teeth. The entrance exam for Elites Academy was just a few weeks away. If Jed gets suspended and misses classes, given his poor grades, he won’t even make it to a third-grade university.

“I won’t fail your expectations.”

Mrs. Henshaw was stunned to see the confident smile on Jed’s face but she recovered quickly and went after him as she had been assigned by the principal to monitor him. Eric and Ben also followed them.

The principal gave the closed door a thoughtful look and murmured knowingly," I still don’t see the peculiar qualities that the old academician saw in this boy that made him insist he must attend Elites… He has no future both in academics or life."

Jed never thought his current body state was so weak. Half a lap, he was already panting. But facing Mrs Henshaw’s scornful look and his roomies worried look, he gritted his teeth and forced himself to go on.

After completing five laps, he was already soaked in sweat and could barely feel himself.

Maybe because this was the first time he was exercising, that’s what made it so difficult. But he showed no signs of stopping.

Surprisingly, his body carried on till he completed the ten laps, the looks on Eric and Ben’s faces had changed from that of worries to amazement. Mrs. Henshaw couldn’t close her mouth in shock.

The school field was almost half an acre, just imagine how long the track section must be but Jed, a boy that could barely jog or sprint actually ran ten laps.

“What has gotten into you?” Eric couldn’t hold back from asking as Jed collapsed on the grass. “You could barely jog yet you just ran!”

“Here, let’s get you to the cafeteria. It’s almost time for dinner. That’s enough excitement for a day,” Ben was still rational. He handed a bottle of water to Jed and helped him up. As the latter drank, Eric scrutinized him weirdly.

He finally said, “Why do I feel like there is something different about you? Don’t you see it too Ben?” He nudged his friend and Jed was a bit nervous that he had discovered something.

“Look, your stomach doesn’t look as pointed as before when it was bulging. Even your face doesn’t look so round and fat anymore,” these words dispelled his worries.

Ben took a closer look at him and nodded,” You really don’t look fat again. I’ve always told you exercising is good for the body… Now no more talking, let’s head to the cafeteria.”

Jed smiled, the body skill he earned from Vendetta wasn’t invalid. They left, forgetting about Mrs. Henshaw.

They had completely ignored her. She gritted her teeth in anger at their behavior and turned around to report to the principal.

She doesn’t believe Jed did that himself. He was just— lucky. Tomorrow, he won’t be so lucky.

A wretched nobody like him dreamed of getting together with her niece and even tried to embarrass her in front of the crowd earlier. She will make him regret it!

At the school cafeteria, Ben and Eric’s jaws almost dropped on the table as they watched Jed dig into his food hungrily.

After a few spoonfuls, he noticed their frozen expressions and that they hadn't touched their food so he asked,” What’s wrong?”
