CH004: Can't Escape Punishment

“Huh, who are they?” Jed wondered silently.

As he thought of this, two virtual chat boxes appeared on the boys’ heads. One box had Ben Palmer and the other had Eric Smith. Basic info about their bio was shown to Jedidiah.

Ben Palmer is a descendant of a prominent militant family in the city while Eric Smith hails from the lineage of wealthy jewelers. They are both roommates to the deceased Jedidiah and used to be his good friends.

Once the students saw the teachers, they scooted away from Jed, seemingly afraid to warrant punishment.

A teacher with a stern-looking facial appearance stepped out and swept his gaze round the assembly hall. The students recognized him and cowered away fearfully.

“What is this I hear about you all bullying a student? Has the standards of this academy dropped this low to the extent of bullying?” the man’s deep monotone resonated.

“No, it’s not like that sir,” a student tried to defend their actions but Ben Palmer rushed to Jed. He was the one whose thoughts Jed had read earlier.

“Sir, look at this,” Ben pointed at a little scar no one had noticed on Jed’s forehead. “They didn’t just call him names. He was also pushed down cruelly from the podium. With the way he had hit his head, it’s a miracle he’s alive!”

The teachers looked at him helplessly. What sort of exaggeration is that? Only that they didn’t realize Ben was actually correct.

“But we can’t be in haste to make decisions judging by what we heard from a party. We haven’t heard from Jane and Cullen yet after all they are the accused,” Another teacher chimed in. When they were saying this, Jane and Cullen had already descended the podium.

All of a sudden, Jane burst into tears and stretched out her sleeves which gave way for a pair of beautiful, pale hands that were now covered with marks.

“They are lying. They didn’t tell you the actual truth of what happened,” she claimed. “In front of our schoolmates, Jed tried to force me into accepting his proposal and when I didn’t agree, he harassed and assaulted me. These marks are evidence. Cullen only stepped in as a gentleman and tried to save me from this bastard.”

Her tearful appearance was really pitiful and easily aroused sympathy from others. Only Ben and Eric looked at her with disgusted looks. While Jed looked at his palms in confusion; did the deceased Jed really scratch her?

But just then, he heard Cullen’s thoughts,’ Imbecile, did you really think you would get away with embarrassing me? It would have been better if you had died from the fall so I won’t have to struggle with my disgust every time I see you.’

Jed’s lips quirked up with an amused smile. They were trying to frame him. Their petty trick is really hilarious because he is, after all, a twenty-four year old trapped in the body of a sixteen year old.

“Do you realize how serious your offense is?” A teacher’s angry words brought Jed back to reality. It was the same stern teacher that had questioned the students earlier.

Jed shook his head at how fast the teacher quickly changed sides. No wonder there is an idiomatic expression that describes females as white flowers. Once they pretend to be innocent and pitiful, no one could resist them.

“You could be suspended or expelled for harassing and assaulting a female!” the teacher exclaimed.

Cullen smiled smugly at this statement. It would be better if they expelled this lowlife and sent him back to where he belongs.

Hearing his thoughts, Jed wondered why Cullen hated him so much. Is it because of his background? Or perhaps, he knows about the relationship bond between them?

“Sir, Jed has done nothing wrong. She is lying,” Eric couldn’t stand back.

Before anyone could say anything else, Jed walked to Jane. “Are these fingernails marks?”

Jane rolled her eyes at his stupid question but answered him pitifully,” Why are you asking? Are you not aware of how they got there?”

Surprisingly, Jed shook his head,” I am not. That is why I am asking. As far as I know, I’ve got short fingernails so I am wondering how those marks got there.”

He stretched out his round chubby palms and showed everyone that he really had no nails and was incapable of itching anyone or anything. He probably chews them considering how low they are.

Having her lies exposed, Jane was stunned. She looked at him wide-eyed and even forgot to cry. Jed was always scared to even look her in the eyes yet, he spoke back at her just now and didn’t even give her face.

“You are so despicable. You even went as far as scratching yourself just to frame Jed. Everyone clearly knows what happened,” Ben spat out angrily.

The teachers looked at Jane and she couldn’t rebut in embarrassment. Cullen’s face glowed with anger.

Jed rubbed his chin thoughtfully and chose the one he thought was most helpful; body skill.

He felt a slight jolt in his body system and looked down. He was unhappy to see that nothing had changed about his chubby size. Was he too fat or the skill was just ineffective?

“But you are still liable for an offense because you proposed to Jane openly despite knowing dating is prohibited,” a female teacher pointed out, holding the rumpled sheet of love letter the deceased Jed had written.

The students that had already begun to murmur about Jane turned their attention back to Jed.
