Chapter 3

The coin flipped in the air. Everything seemed to go in slow motion. Aries closed his eyes, lost in thought. Was he scared?

Yes, he was frightened as hell. Shaking in his boots?.

Running screaming for help seemed like an option, but his life wasn't worth living.

If he died right now, would he see his mom again?

Would she be in that place people called heaven?

He stopped breathing when he heard her cork her gun. "One.... Two... Three.." she counted. His heart beat wildly in his chest. Like, for fuck sakes, who was he kidding? He wanted to so desperately live.

Even though he didn't deserve to, he just couldn't die yet. It wouldn't be fair.

He broke into a cold sweat, jerking as a loud shot fired through the air. "Heads" the blonde girl said, a bit disappointed, a mummer of boos echoed among her gang of girls.

Sirens wailed in the distance and the girl cursed under her breath.  "The name's Army, A-R-M-Y." she introduced herself, a creepy grin on her face as a whiff of weed came off her.

"Puppy, you owe me one thousand dollars. I'm gonna need it back by Monday, okay?" she told him sternly. Her smile disappeared from her face like it had never been there.

Chills went down Aries's spine at the dark look in her eyes. She grabbed his neck with one fist. What the fuck?

How could such little hands cut off his airflow? "If you don't have my money by Monday puppy, I swear by all the freaking lives in new York city. I'll kill your father, mother, siblings, friends, pets, even the bugs that breath next to you, okay?".

she warned him seriously before leaning in to bite his neck. He flinched in pain. She licked where she bit.

"Don't miss me too much baby" she walked away slowly and got into a parked Lamborghini which drove away.

That she left him unharmed made her gang members dissatisfied.

The huge girl cracked her fingers. "You have the guts to look our mistress in the eye, you little bitch. Prepare to die" along with her crew.

They gave him a good beating before running off as a cop car passed by.

Aries stood up limping away from the scene. He didn't want to confront any cops at the moment.

The rain poured heavily again it worse this time, as the rain felt like painful whiplashes. He stood under the shade of a grocery store, which still leaked. He sighed, wallowing in self pity.

He was ashamed as he stared at his reflection in the mirror. His eyes were grey and lifeless, dead even.

How dare he think he deserved to be in the same place as his mom, heaven?. He scoffed. He didn't deserve such. Luxury. He deserved everything that was happening to him right now.

Pathetic, that was what he was. Staring at his bruised and bartered face, the discoloration in his face making him more ugly than he actually was. He put on a face mask and baseball cap.

Unable to look at himself anymore. He closed his eyes, standing still. He hoped the rain would beat him to death, but the rain stopped, or so he thought.

He opened his eyes only to see the world through glass. It was clear as the drops of rain landed on the umbrella. He turned to his side to see a short, tiny woman holding an umbrella over his head.

His heart stopped as his eyes met her sapphire orbs. Such pure perfection he'd seen nothing like it.

Aries had never seen such beautiful eyes, clear as the summer sky, yet pretty like the winter snow. They were cold as ice, yet warm.

It wasn't the color or the shape of the eyes, no. It was the look in those eyes. There was a light in her eyes. Like she had known no pain in the world.

He drowned in the depths of her ocean eyes and his cheeks caught flames realizing how long he had been staring at her. She giggled, and he turned away.

They stood watching the rain. Drops, a small warm hand touched his, placing the umbrella in his hand. She smiled at him before heading into the grocery shop.

He couldn't help himself. He kept staring after her as she shopped for some things in the grocery shop.

Dressed in a thick French trench coat and high-heeled boots, he could tell she was older than him. Yet she oozed wealth.

As she came back out, he quickly looked away, covering her with the umbrella. She reached for his cap and he moved away, turning his back to her.

He couldn't let her see his face. He couldn't bear to see her beautiful eyes become filled with hate or repulsion.

She walked around him, giving him a reassuring smile. She gently took off his mask and cap, her eyebrows dropped slightly.

Aries couldn't help being trapped in those sapphire orbs as she gently tended to his wounds.

Using wet swabs to clean his face, she was gentle.

In her eyes there was no hatred, irritation, lust or repulsion like in Viana's.

Aries broke into tears as the only memory he had of someone looking at him with such kind eyes was that of his mum.

She held him close his big body engulfed her small frame as he sobbed into her shoulder for a few minutes. She whipped his tears away, tossing her used swabs in the trash.

"Would you like some dinner?" she asked without waiting for a reply. She pulled him along to a nearby diner.

Ordering two meals, Aries did not know how hungry he was until they served the food and he scraped the plate.

Realizing, he hadn't had a bite to eat since the leftovers he ate from breakfast. He shyly shrugged in his sit as she had watched him rush his meal.

She stared at him, worry in her eyes. He knew that look. He despised in that look. He sat up, his face turning into a cold, expressionless facade.

He was very ready to pay for the meal and leave if she bothered to advise him to get help. She reached for his hand and he pulled away.

Did she pity him? He asked himself, feeling sick?

Her phone rang, and she took the call. "Hi honey, yes. I'll be back home soon, I'm busy at the moment." the conversation on the phone felt like a bucket of ice water had just splashed on him. His inner voice laughed at him.

"you must think this is some kind of Disney movie shit!, beauty and beast, Cinderella or Shrek and Fiona. what did you think that you'd be together?".

The voice snapped at him back to reality.

The lady seemed to notice his discomfort, so she stood up, placing the bill on the table.

Aries frowned "I don't need you to pay for me,"

Aries politely told her, her eyes widened in shock. She grinned from ears to ear, leaning in closer to him. He leaned back a little.

Her eyes sparkled filled with glee. "I thought I wouldn't get to hear your voice before I leave?"

He slowly cupped his face in her warms hands, he was so bedazzled by her he could only stare. "You have a beautiful voice," she said sincerely.

Sparkling eyes rocked his words as she said the words that made him fall in love instantly "If no one told you, I know I'm no one important to you but I want you to live."his heart fluttered at her words.

He stared at her for too long again in so much that she teased him.

She held his lip in-between her thumb and forefinger, whispering against them.

"Should I kiss you?"
