Qi Sying can't remember anything.
He knows he had never been in an accident before, nor experienced anything fatal enough to activate the so-called 「SYSTEM」 that was given to him by a person who was clad in white clothes.
His mind is blank. No events pertaining to his former self remained in his mind. Though, he is most clear to his body's disposition. He is human and the place he was in not a place where humans should exist. A voice is telling him from the deepest part of his soul, saying, 'You should not be here'.
He did not belong here.
However, there are still a few things that Qi Sying can remember. He knows his name by chance, that he is already twenty years old, and his appearance is very average. His image is something one would forget after three seconds of meeting.
These were the facts that were usually embedded deep in the mind that not even the external force can erase from the memories. It is more permanent than the names of his friends and faces of his parents.
「Host, please take good care of the kaleidoscope. It is your only ticket to get out of this place.」
An electronic voice resounded inside his head. Qi Sying was no longer surprised by the sudden intrusion of the foreign mechanism that owned a unique frosty voice. It was called 「SYSTEM」,a heaven-defying device that could help him finish tasks by jumping into worlds.
Taking the words the system said, Qi Sying raised the object in his hand. Qi Sying was in a white room with six corners. Everything inside this room was so white that no shadow could touch the bleakness.
His clothes were also the same color, matching his already pale complexion. Maybe the only thing that made him visible was his dark black hair and two black irises. The next one that has a color was the kaleidoscope on his hands.
The kaleidoscope has the shape of a cylinder with the outer covering made up of brass. It resembled a telescope, though the only difference is that the length can't be extended and the top part has a rotating mechanism that allows whatever was inside to move.
Qi Sying traced the brass cover, praising the complex, intricate carvings. He did not have any memories but he was sure such design will be praised by many people. He raised the object up above his right eye and peered over the little eye on the other end. The white room seemed to possess a light source since it was able to illuminate the top part of the kaleidoscope which reflected the colorful mechanism inside.
Though it still carried the myriad of geometric shapes, Qi Sying could see a few parts missing, rendering the object broken. That person, that man with an obscure face in white clothes, gave him a mission and that was to fix this kaleidoscope.
As the system says, it is his only ticket to get out of this white place.
"System, how is it done?" Qi Sying asked. "Will I be transported somewhere? Uh, in different worlds then look for the missing shards?"
The system in his mind made a short whirring sound. A cold voice replied.
「Yes, the host will travel to different worlds. Your soul will occupy the body of a certain character. The idea of your travel will be based on the character owning the highest regret points on that world.」
"Regret points?" Qi Sying muttered. "What is that?"
「Regret points was the amount of regret a person has. It is the same with merit points, revenge points, and many more - it is a mechanism used in every world to keep the dimension running.」
"That's interesting," Qi Sying subconsciously scratched the kaleidoscope. "I guess I will be working on these regret points?"
「Host is correct. The world needs a lot of energy to continue running. It is supplied by these energies. But there are instances where a certain energy source exceeds the requirement disturbing the balance. Most of the time, these sudden shifts of energy causes the world's destruction.」
The mission of the systems was to maintain the balance in these worlds. But the system could not possess a body so they look for souls to do the job in exchange of something.
「The Host's mission is to replace the soul of the character in that world and alter the events that will cause the surge of regret without totally changing the outline. Once the main mission was done, the shard can be collected.」
"Main Mission? There are different kinds of mission?"
「You're right, host. There are three types of missions: the main missions, side missions, and extra missions. The Main Mission would be the main objective of the host traveling to that world. 」
「Unable to finish 75% of the main mission will be marked as a failure and the host will have to personally search for the shard. The default accounting was one world, one shard.」
「But there are instances where three or more shards can be collected. It is possible in worlds where there is a certain difficulty or if the missions are not easy to complete. The compensation will always account to the world's difficulty.」
「Second - the side missions. This one will come after the main mission, though it is not necessary to complete. The host will be given the choice to do it or not. It will not affect the main mission, however, could give incentives in certain situations.」
「Side missions give extra points that can be used to buy things in the shop. Host, remember that the items in the shops are very expensive since the items can be used even after finishing in that world.」
「Lastly -extra missions. These missions will only appear if the host reaches a certain event that requires an immediate action. Like side missions, the purpose of extra missions is to give the host additional points.」
「But since this one is an extra, this mission will give more points than side missions, or might actually get higher points than the main missions could give. The host will also receive 'cheat tickets' that will be useful in the future.」
The words were carved into Qi Sying's mind. In order for him to fix this broken object, he has to travel into different worlds to collect the missing shards.
To get the missing shards, he has to finish doing tasks. Unable to finish the main tasks will give him consequences that might have him lose a shard. And, by default, one world means one shard.
"If I am unable to finish the said main missions and lose the shard, how can I recover?" He asked.
「One world has one shard, but there are chances that a host will not be able to collect a shard on consecutive worlds since there are difficulties on the missions. Host, keep in mind that the only thing that you need to do is fix the kaleidoscope. 」
「As long as you can collect the number of shards needed, then you don't have to worry over missed shards. However, being unable to finish missions will result in punishments. It might double the next world's difficulty or the host will be put into restriction.」
"So I really only needed to collect the shards, huh..."
Qi Sying raised the object up and tried to sneak a peek inside by closing his one eye. He counted the missing colors inside the tube, marking the shards that he needed to get.
"After getting the shard, how am I going to place it inside?"
「The shard will automatically place itself inside the kaleidoscope.」
"Hmmm," Qi Sying said, nodding. "Somehow, I can feel a strange connection to this thing. I don't know, but I feel like they are important pieces of me."
The system did not reply. It only waited for Qi Sying to finish counting before speaking again.
「Would the host want to proceed?」
"En. I already accepted this job anyway," or else, according to that white clothed man, his soul will be eliminated if he rejected the offer.
He did not know what being eliminated meant, but he had a hunch that it wouldn't be good. He'd rather go to different worlds than to be erased forever.
「Then, since this is the host's first time, the management made the first world your free trial. Don't worry; this is just the beginner's package that will help newbies to adapt.」
「The difficulty of the mission will be neglected while the points will double their original value. Once this world is done, the setting will be back to normal and the point systems will also revert back.」
"Very accommodating," Qi Sying commented.
「If the host has any questions, you can just ask me. I might not be able to give a hand physically, but it is my duty to guide the host and keep track of the progress of the missions.」
「If the host wants to buy something from the shop, just tell me so I can purchase it for you. However, my services are only limited to small wishes. Requests that might affect the storyline will be rejected.」
"I understand."
The system prepared for the departure. Qi Sying can hear the electronic voice initializing commands in his mind. When the system started the countdown, he suddenly felt sleepy.
He made his way to the couch in the corner and reclined in a relaxed position. He closed his eyes as the darkness of sight engulfed him. Flashes of colors rained on his vision as his consciousness shifted until nothing could be felt.
Only the cold voice of the system reminded him of his existence, and the unusual warmth coming from the kaleidoscope on his hand.
「Completing transfer... 3...2...1...」
Qi Sying gasped for air as he groggily regained consciousness. He remained motionless for a moment when a sharp throbbing pain suddenlywhackedhis head. Qi Sying whimpered, biting his lips to stop his voice from leaking. It took him a while to regain focus and called the system frantically, ASAP. A cold voice spoke inside his mind. The system is narrating his successful transfer mechanically. It didn't alleviate the incessant throbbing of his temples and made it worst. Qi Sying felt a sudden overwhelming desire of smashing his head against the wall. He had no idea transferring worlds could be so vexing. [This system can reassure the host that transferring worlds is not painful. The pain the host is feeling is from the body the host resided.] Qi Sying gritted his teeth, trying to retain his reason. His brows are sweating prof
Upon opening his eyes for the second time in this world, Qi Sying was greeted by the sight of himself in yet another white room. The difference is that he was able to immediately recognize the type of room in which he was staying. After perceiving numbing pain in his left hand, Qi Sying made a short sigh. He doesn't have to turn his wrist to see that he has a dextrose line attached to it. Using his right arm, he soothed the area from his brows up to his temples in a gentle manner. The discomfort is still present, but it can be tolerated for the time being. "System, what just happened?" He inquired after double-checking that he was the only one in the room. [Host fainted. You were sent to the hospital by your co-workers. Anytime later, you would have died. You have been sleeping for half a day.] "Half a day?" Qi Sying rubbed the inside of his brows together. "What's going on?" [I am waiting for host to wake up.
"This plot..." Qi Sying contemplated. "... is so simple." Compared to the dramas that he had watched on TV, this plot's interaction was so simple that he already knew the outcome of the story even though he was still in the middle of scanning the memories. Jun Zihao lived a comfortable and good life. There were no mistresses or illegitimate children to fight with, or at least some distant cousin that wanted to take their place. His brothers were not vying for any position while his parents doted on him very much. And for the f
[A/N: Qi Sying and "Jun Zihao" will be used interchangeably. Please comment if it gets confusing.] Later that day, Qi Sying arranged a family dinner. It was at a five-star restaurant known for its delicious home cooking. The Jun family used to enjoy spicy food; the more spicy, the better. But due to Jun Zihao's health condition, they rarely eat one together. Thus, Qi Sying ordered a lot of Sichuan dishes. The Jun Family was not aware that Jun Zihao had returned to the city. Though they did know he graduated from university, they expected that he would be taking a vacation first before returning. The person himself did not divulge them his plans, leaving him vulnerable to all kinds of bullying. If ever his family were there when he needed help the most, Jun Zihao won't die tragically. Once the table had been set, he contacted the main house. The people were discussing the meal for dinner when Jun Zihao's call came in. Mother Ju
He woke up the next day in accordance with his body's natural waking hours. Following the routine, he went to the sink to brush his teeth, took a short bath, and then prepared a simple breakfast. There was nothing much to bring to the office since most of his things were left in the lockers, so he merely needed his keys, his phone, and other necessities. Before seven, he was already out of his apartment. It can be asserted that Jun Zihao is living his life monotonously. His daily life is only detailed between his work place and home. Qi Sying, who was watching Jun Zihao's repetitive routine, could not help but to feel itchy. There is nothing wrong with going to work on time or properly working during work hours. But Jun Zihao was too stiff. He doesn't know any enjoyment. If he was not at the company to read documents, then he was at home doing the similar thing. He only changed locations. Even on weekends, when people were supposed to take a r
Ru Weimin was reputed to be an extremely frigid man. Only a few people were truly important to him, and they were his closest family members and childhood friends. Other than that, he would treat everyone sternly and strictly. He wasn't bad; it's just that none of them could pique his interest. Most of the time, his interactions with these "unwanted people" were short and precise. He never would hide his oppressive aura and would often intimidate the other person if he was in a bad mood. Only a few people can handle his temperament, but they still won't try to test his bottom line. He was like a tyrant emperor, always demonstrating his power to threaten society. Everyone knows that ever since he was still young, Ru Weimin had achieved what an ordinary person could not get. He was a character who was born just to become great and powerful. He started reading at the age of one. When children were just learning how to walk, he was already
Ru Weimin's eyes flashed with a cold glint as he continued scanning the subsequent documents. Jun Zihao applied to their company many months ago. Because of his good qualifications and the recommendation handed down by his university, Jun Zihao was able to secure a favorable spot inside the company. He is presently working in the creative department as a new employee without a distinct position. The process into which he entered was so ordinary nobody would think that he was the son of a very prestigious family. Ru Weimin continued scanning the information, but none of it was absorbed into his mind. He was considering of other possible reasons this person had entered his company. Due to this family entanglement, Ru Weimin ignored the following piece of information that held Jun Zihao's recent hospitalization... He had encountered different people. Despite his cold glare and frosting words, Ru Weimin knows he is quite popular with the masses. It was due to his
The entire top floor is regarded as the company's pinnacle. This was the humble abode of the Great Emperor Ru Weimin. The floor was divided into three considerable sections. The first section was known as the Executive Hall. Anyone entering the top floor will immediately come into contact with this dark polished stone brick wall embedded with large lettered gold fonts embellished with LED lights to glorify its position. Turning a corner, the office surrounded by one-way dark stained glass walls would be seen. A conference table coupled with gray carpeted chairs was placed inside, facing a platform with a rostrum set up adjacent to the door. Both floor-to-ceiling windows were covered with venetian blinds. An overhead projector was installed on the ceiling, with a wide whiteboard occupying the stark wall behind the rostrum. There were additional microphones, one at the table and one on the side of the stage. Other decorations, like potted plants, were a
However, Jun Zihao's situation is not promising. Although he was still conscious, this did not guarantee that everything was fine. He was taken immediately to the ICU by Ru Weimin to have his body checked. His body must have encountered something to cause such a severe reaction. It's better to be safe than sorry, so check it. Jun Zihao, on the other hand, experienced a drifting sensation. Although he was unable to describe it precisely, he felt as though something heavy had been removed from his body. Or, in some other way, the weight of his body was gently dissipating, just as a soul would gradually depart from its body. It wasn't a good experience. Such vulnerability was something Jun Zihao loathed. He doesn't want to be a burden. The want to repay all the kindness shown to him should be coming from the original soul's subconscious. And the only way he could have felt worthy was by giving himself up. He believed that he was unworthy of treatment. Ruminating through the previou
Jun Zihao is indistinguishable at that time. His black hair has been colored yellow and green, and he wore hefty make-up on his face, creating a smokey effect around his eyes adorned with a few silver stickers while his lips were painted black. His thick eyebrows are sort of trimmed to form a crisscross contour, added by a piercing on both ends. If there is anything that is excessive on his body, that is his piercings. His brows were pierced, and he wore two little red buttons as embellishments. His nose and tongue were not spared, as they were shackled with either a small chained diamond brace or a ring-like gem. But the most remarkable place is his ears, which are almost encased with jewelry. There were various types, of all sizes and colors. One would want to know and ask if his ears are heavy because of the shocking number of accessories dangling. His appearance at that time did not resemble anything from his current smart appearance. It nearly gave the impression that they we
Jun Zihao had become very become busy for the past few weeks. According to the memories from the original soul, it would take at least two weeks to finalize the product proposal. With the assistance of the Creative Department's seniors, it should be possible to complete the ordeal in one month and move on to physical fabrication the following month. Despite how simple it sounded, Jun Zihao was the busiest during this season. He must not only evaluate the proposals and requirements for the product, but he must also travel to several locations to scout materials until they find a source that is both inexpensive and efficient. Only after contracting with their supplier did his load lessen and have the staff check on the progress of the procurement while he concentrated on the presentation. Without the terrible plagiarizing incident, Jun Zihao would have shone the brightest on the conference. However, with Qi Sying handling things at his pace, the progress of the project became quest
That shouldn't be the case, should it? San Zhao took a deep breath, trying to appear professional and sensible at the same time. Two persons pressed up against each other does not mean that they are kissing, does it? Well, in many cases, it couldn't just be kissing. It's also likely that they're merely talking about something, perhaps a big secret that required them to get that close to avoid leaking the information. Yes, that's most likely it. There's no way his boss and his business opponent's son are kissing in the office! The secretary gingerly knocked on the glass door, clearing his throat lightly. He didn't dare to stare accusingly at the two gentlemen and pretended he couldn't notice anything wrong. He proceeded towards his boss as he usually does, disregarding Ru Weimin's disdainful scowl. After all, he had been Ru Weimin's secretary for so long. He's already immune to a lot of things related to his co
"System, I think I have some heart problems." The system who was called out: ??? 「Is the host not feeling well?」 "I'm not sure," Qi Sying placed his hand on his chest, his eyes lost in thought. The tight feeling in his chest was gone. It seems like it only occurred in a moment. "I am probably just anxious." Ru Weimin caught Jun Zihao dazedly staring in midair, his one hand plastered on his chest. Is this guy feeling something bad on his chest? Ru Weimin has inadvertently summoned Jun Zihao. The young man knew his name and proceeded to the table. What should they do now that they're face to face? Even though Ru Weimin is watching Jun Zihao, he doesn't want the other person to know his secret pleasures so he pretend
Kabedon – Qi Sying learned this word when he accidentally overheard the conversation of his female cousins when he visited the ancestral house last weekend. According to them, it is a Japanese word that represents the action of pinning someone on the wall whilst caging them. It's a common romantic move in romance shoujo mangas, where the male lead pins the female lead to the wall. For the reason for such an action, they said that it is to have a close encounter with someone, either trying to intimidate the other or just doing it for fun. But the most particular reason is that it is close enough for two people to kiss. Yeah, right, like pinning someone on the wall and kissing them. You are welcome to be intimidated, but I will still kiss you. "Do you really ha
"Then, he should have an operation," San Zhao muttered. "Surely, he scheduled for one, right?" "Yes," Doctor Zhao said, nodding. "However, he wanted to have it after three months." For whatever reasons, nobody knows. Doctor Zhao could only assume that there was something in these three months that made Jun Zihao want to postpone his operation. It was such a concise number, which usually makes people suspicious. Anyway, the three months given were enough to collect resources. They could not become hasty and do things without thinking properl
It was the weekend. Qi Sying was supposed to come to work, but since the CEO would not be present, his presence would not be necessary. Even though he was Ru Weimin's personal secretary, the one holding the "legitimate" position was still San Zhao, so he had no right to complain. Qi Sying happily accepted the rest day. Who didn't want to have it, anyway? It might also be treated as a day off without getting harassed by those bullied. Besides, he promised to visit the ancestral house this weekend, so he very much seized the chance. As for the overbearing CEO, Ru Weimin was sincerely releasing his ice-cold aura without restraint as he sat on a small couch. San Zhao, the person standing next to him, was unfazed by the pressure and kept his gaze fixed on the subject of their attention. Even still, the other men in the room were frightened to death by the overwhelming presence. Even the most trained guards can't stand up for more than half an hour, so how
While Ru Weimin was in the midst of contemplating, Qi Sying vomited once more. This time, Ru Weimin did not hesitate to come closer and support the youth. Even though their interactions were indirect and primarily consisted of Ru Weimin discreetly stealing glances at Jun Zihao, he still felt he had a duty to care for the young man. As the young man puked solid air, he stroked his back, trying to relieve pressure points and make his retching less painful. This small gesture helped Qi Sying gradually recover. The contractions in his stomach became less intense, and he no longer had the sensation of his stomach being ripped out. Ru Weimin assisted him wash his face by dabbing the dripping sweat from Qi Sying's drenched forehead with his handkerchief. Qi Sying was still slowly getting out of the pain and didn't notice the calm gentleness coming from the ice cold man. "Are you... Are you feeling fine now?" Ru Weimin asked, almost making his voice crack. Th
