Chapter 23 - Impulses

Chapter 23 - Impulses

"Where is the healer?" Thomas's voice reverberated through the surroundings and a man, Andrew stepped out of the somewhat dim passage.

"Your... Your wife?" Andrew immediately commented on the sight before him as his jaw sagged from his lips.

"Unfortunately, the king is also receiving treatment from the healer. You'll have to wait until the king is under an appropriate condition."

Thomas looked frustrated as he intensely flung his gaze from his wife to Andrew, "How long do you think it will take him?"

"The healer is actually her, but by the way, she will be done as soon as she can revive the king from his critical condition."

Thomas nodded as his face slowly grew an unpleased frown, "Where can I drop her? After all, I'm not an ability user like you all."

Andrew led him to an empty room in the house. There was a huge bed just before them and it looked comfy enough for his wife.

Thomas quickly laid Lily on the bed with a little bit of effort before jumping on his feet once more, "Take me to the King, I need to see him."

Andrew nodded and rushed out of the room into a spacious room located at the further end of the corridor. When they both stepped in, their gaze collided with the other elder who surrounded the healer that tried his possible best to get the king to open his eyes.

"Is the king breathing?" Thomas asked with an uneasy gaze at the king.

"Yes!" The healer replied even before the others could say a word. He continued after some seconds of his procedures on the king,

"He's breathing just fine, but he is not waking up!"

"I think he'll be fine. He and the young man was going to have a spar before I left, so I think either the young man overpowered him, or that dragon interfered."

The room went silent for more than a minute and Gregor was the first to recover from the shocking news, "And why are you telling us this now? By the way, why didn't you save the king?"

"I was holding my baby! Do you expect me to drop my child on the ground to interfere in a spar?"

Thomas added, "By the way, I found Lily unconscious, the malevolent human and his pet dragon must have done something to her."

The healer remained silent while staring at the king, and after a few seconds he'd finally muster a word, "So where is the room you kept her."

"Over here!" Andrew interfered the conversation and ran out of the royalty-fitting room, into Lily's ward which was a little bit more normal.

When the healer set eyes on Lily, his lips pursed as his eyes keened at the body that looked unliving. He hurried towards her body and took a glance at her exposed skin.

"How dare you..."

"Your wife was stung by a Beraid! And she will remain like this until approximately three days." The healer quickly interrupted Thomas's statement with a careless gaze at the lady’s face,

"And by the way, I was only checking her body for any sting."

"You... You mean three days before Lily will be awake? How is she going to feed our baby!" Thomas questioned with a frustrated frown.

"Bottle milk is an option, at least that way you can feed the baby!"

"Why didn't you finish him off?" Bel's voice echoed in the lair while he sat on a pile of gold coins.

In front of him stood Leo whose head bowed to the ground as he was being sanctioned by Bel.

"Answer me!" Bel's voice once again, enraged the lair since Leo remained speechless. But after some seconds, he finally gave a statement,

"I... I don't want to kill anyone just yet. I've done enough to the village and everyone and things in it!"

He added, "By the way, why do you have to sanction me for being not too psycho and just killing everyone there?"

"So you're not a strong-hearted villain...just yet?" A disappointed look drowned Bel's face and at the same time he looked vexed, "And the next time you invade the village, pray you don't get arrested, else, I'll make sure I rescue you only when they've sliced your head from your neck!"

Bel growled at Leo and immediately transformed into a dragon that was exactly the size of a lair.

A memory flashed in Leo's head immediately after seeing the transformation, "Bel, that size you displayed in the village, is that your limit?"

The question remained unanswered as Bel walked into the further lair.

"Playing harsh only because you're a dumb...dumber dragon!" Leo spat while he muttered his words which were almost inaudible.

Two days and a half after the dragon's incident, yet the village remained as gloomy as a graveyard. All the elders had relocated to their various villages as soon as the king was awake.

Meanwhile, in a room, Thomas sat on the edge of a bed while his baby was situated in his arms with a bottom-filled bottle of liquid milk in his small mouth.

"Wake up Lily... Asta needs you!" Thomas's eyes looked soar, mostly due to the sleepless night he had trying to calm the baby who cried every night.

The baby was about to burst into tears, and fortunately, Thomas was quicker to react as he properly fixed the sucker into his mouth.

"Don't cry... Don't cry, shush!" He calmly patted the baby whose eyes glittered open as he brutally sucked out the milk.

"You're now the mother ehnn." A voice reverberated through the room and Thomas turned to the middle-aged man who paced toward Lily's unconscious body, "Be happy, she may be awake by sunset!"

Thomas nodded and stretched his palms toward his wife's soft skin, "I hope so!"

"And by the way, your bill is six silver coins!"

"Wait... Are you serious?"

"Of course! You as an elder make you stupendously rich, and I'm only an average-living healer who needs money. Six silver coins are even cheap!" The healer looked more real than a man late for work, and this made Thomas's mood turn for the worse,

"Before you can complain, add two gold coins, making it two gold and six silver coins as payment! You can afford it, can't you?"

"Ye... Yes!" The tears that gathered in his eyes almost dropped as he felt intimidated both financially and mentally. Although he was not a stingy man, it felt poor to argue with an average healer all due to payment costs.
