Chapter 22 - The King And Leo

"Deal! But you'll pay for this." As soon as Leo finished his statement, the environment turned pitch black, and the king even struggled to see.

"Are...you hiding underneath here?" The king asked as his eyes gazed around the dark scene.

Meanwhile, Leo stood far away from the king with a pondering frown. Even the dragon had failed to scare the king for a long time, and he now had to brainstorm on what was scarier than the dragon, or at least, what will scare a dragon.

Suddenly, a shout from the king echoed into the surroundings and Leo shivered since he only exhausted himself the more the king was lost in darkness, "Young man, what is this?"

The king was lost in total darkness for nearly a minute before a cool feeling suddenly crashed on him. He turned his stare to the far darkness, and his gaze fell on a pair of glittering golden eyes that slowly paced toward him.

"This is a real illusion young man, you're slowly..." The sudden appearance of a widely-opened mouth interrupted his statement, and he was taken aback to see the large mouth of a dragon reaching for his body.

He stretched his palms to the creature as a means of self-defense, and the seeming dragon's mouth hooked mid-air, but the defense from the king slowly died out and the creature slowly pushed itself closer to the king’s body.

"You deceptive dragon, you..said you would not interfere!"

Unfortunately, Leo couldn't manipulate his voice, so he had to remain silent while the illusion acted on its script.

When the tension in the king’s face had reached its maximum, Leo snapped his fingers and the dragon illusion disappeared into thin air.

"Heavens! Get me out of here." A frustrated shout erupted into the surroundings and Leo felt proud as he'd caught the king off-guard even without expecting it.

The king felt like he was going to die of anxiety, and he even began to doubt if this was an illusion, "Young man..."

He couldn't even complete his statement and the pair of glowing eyes had reappeared into the darkness.

It's a dragon! Those were the first thought that crossed his mind and he readied his mental health for whatever was going to be next.

The pitch-black surrounding seemed to have lightened a bit and a monstrous beast revealed its appearance.

It was the figure of a black dragon, a massive black dragon whose glowing eyes and evil frown could only rip off the strength and ego of the king.

Suddenly, a cone of red flames aimed towards the king from the mouth of the dragon, and as soon as the flames seemed to have engulfed him, he fell unconscious to the ground, mostly due to hypertension and zero of the flame as it was a mere realistic display of an illusion.

The once pitch-black scene transformed into its normal village scene and Bel suddenly landed on the ground from the sky with a mesmerized and proud grin.

"Kill him, and I'll be more proud of what a son you've become." Leo had an awkward frown after listening to the somewhat expected words from Bel.

"No! I won't kill him... At least, not yet."

"Then smash the villagers into simple broken pieces!" Leo's frown tightened with the words from Bel and he gave a nod of disapproval.

"The Blackest Blue have done enough chaos today, maybe the day after tomorrow."

And with his words, the Blackest Blue appeared out of thin air. Bel, on the other hand, had a despicable grin, even though he felt dejected on the inside. A wide cone of hot flames engulfed all the villagers and before a second was complete, it died out while all the villagers gained freedom from the iced bondage.

Luckily for the villagers, the scene was now absent of both Leo who they referred to as 'the shadowy man, and the dragon. But unfortunately, there was an almost limp body on the ground.

The body of the man who they crammed as the kingdom himself, the king. The elders, specifically, immediately paced toward his limp body and did not hesitate to lift him from the ground before preparing every other medical procedure.

However, during the period, Andrew threw glances at the surroundings vividly trying to find Thomas.

"Where is that young man?" He wondered.

Meanwhile, Thomas arrived at his house which looked untouched, just the door was wide open.

"Heavens, let Lily be safe," Thomas mumbled and ran into the house while hastily making his way into his bedroom with a heart drowned in fear.

Only a few seconds felt like hours before Thomas as he slowly opened the door that had a small squeak.

"Lily?" When the door opened, it revealed Lily's body which was lying limp on the bed. Thomas ran toward her with fear written on his face.

"Lily, no! no! Lily don't do this to us."

Firstly, he dropped the baby in his cradle and then back to Lily who remained stiff.

Suddenly, a dry cough erupted from her mouth, and she sat upright while staring at her husband with anxiety.

"What?" Thomas had the urge to ask as the anxious face only piqued his interest to know what happened to her. But then, even before he could complete his statement, Lily had fallen back to the bed.

Thomas looked worried for a very long time with his gaze glued to Lily's unconscious body. He raised her into his arms after some minutes and proceeded to carry her body that luckily, did not have too much weight.

~~~
Over a couple of minutes, Thomas stood in front of a small house that had a small crowd settled in front of the door.
"What is going on here?" Thomas cried with a trembling voice and the individuals turned to him.
One of the villagers quickly answered, "Paul was a victim of the attack! He... He's dead."
Thomas felt his knees weaken but he stood on with a face that vividly mourned for the healer. He had always been the person making treatment for the family for over fifteen years, and suddenly, he was dead, all because of a terrorist.
Thomas had to turn around and proceeded to visit the nearby healer for his wife's medical procedure. And after a few minutes, he arrived in front of a black wooden door that was widely opened with over a dozen of fatally wounded bodies scattered around.
"Where is the healer?"
He turned around to see the person or animal that chased behind him but was immediately dumbfounded upon seeing a huge black reptile floating mid-air with its gigantic wings moving rhythmically. He stood up from the ground with a confused face after seeing the creature, now even ignoring the heavy pressure before him. ‘I can’t believe it. I thought daddy said dragons aren’t real.’ Leo felt a spark trigger in him, and a wide smile appeared on his face. He slowly advanced towards the dragon after some seconds of pondering with his arms stretched forward like he was called for an embrace. “Ca…can I touc.. touch you?”
Over a minute later, he stood before a dozen of guards who all had burning touches on their grasp to lighten the dark surrounding. “The twelve of you should
