Chapter 5 - A Man Like You!

Damon was taken aback at that statement. He felt as though he'd just been doused with a bucket of cold water. All of his energy left him like he was a deflated balloon.

"I mean if she was at Hotel De Salvatore, it couldn't have been with a man like you." Michael, Joyce's father mused, smiling at his wife.

"I mean." Gianna chortled with him.

Damon's mouth hung open,

"Is that all you're both going to say?" He breathed. "Joyce is disgracing not just me but the family name as well by what she's doing."

Gianna's face contorted in anger,

"And what the fuck do you mean by that?" She boiled. "Is it your family name? At least she has a family name to disgrace! Who are you? Your name is nothing but a disgrace itself!"

"And for your information, any man out there is better than your sorry self!" Michael pitched in. "I mean who do you think you are? Jumping in here to do what? Turn us against our daughter? Because she decided to return to her senses and upgrade to a man much suited to her status?"

Gianna shook her head in disdain,

"You'll always be a pauper looking for how to eat the crumbs from the plates of the likes of us Damon. How dare you!"

Damon's mouth hung open at these words rained on him by Joyce's parents. He had known they detested him. But to the extent of risking their family name?

At that moment the door banged open and Joyce catwalked in with her billionaire boyfriend Jack Pierce.

Jack was sporting a bandaid on his nose and his fingers flexed as he saw Damon in the room. He sneered at him as Joyce walked over to the center of the room where Damon stood.

She slapped a brown envelope onto his chest. Then she turned to her parents,

"Hi mum, hi Dad." She smiled and beckoned to Jack, holding tightly onto his arm. "This is Jack Pierce, my fiance."

As Damon looked down at the envelope, he saw written in block letters:

DIVORCE AGREEMENT

Damon looked up slowly,

"Joyce, what is this?" He breathed.

"Did the beating you got from the security guards take out your eyes? What does it say on the envelope?" Joyce taunted, snickering at him.

Gianna was beside herself with delight. She grinned from ear to ear as she walked over to greet Jack.

Michael clapped him on the back,

"Well, you're an upright man alright! Taking a beating for our daughter here. Glad to welcome you into the family."

"It's so nice to see Joyce finally with a man who is worthy of her." Gianna chuckled.

They all ignored Damon who was still shocked as he looked through the divorce papers, the full ramifications of the divorce weighing down on him. Going with the divorce meant he would have to leave the house and find somewhere else to live, but he knew no one and nowhere he could go.

"Joyce, how can you do this? How long have you been planning this and cheating on me?" He accused, his voice cracking.

Jack turned around and gave Damon a punch. He sneered at him as Damon fell to the floor, shaking with pain.

"If you dare speak to my woman again, I'll kill you and dump your body in a lagoon and no one would bat an eyelid."

Damon wheezed as Joyce bent beside him with a pen.

"Here you go. Sign the papers and get out of my life forever." She huffed.

"P– please Gianna, please Michael, how can you let this happen, I have nowhere to go. Please."

Gianna rushed over to him and slapped him hard,

"How dare you speak mine and my husband's name from your filthy, disgusting mouth!" She screeched.

Damon swallowed,

"Please. I'm sorry, I'll stay out of your way from now on, just – please don't do this to me."

Jack sniggered and nudged him with the toe of his shoe,

"Sign the papers now you bastard before I change my mind and kill you instead."

Damon looked up at him,

"How can you be so heartless? What have I ever done to any of you–"

Jack shut him up with another punch then shoved his face into the divorce papers,

"Sign them!" He bellowed.

Damon coughed violently as pain coursed through his limbs. Shaking he reached for the pen to sign his doom.

"Come on Michael, call the guards to throw him out as soon as he signs the papers," Gianna ordered.

Michael nodded and moved to the telephone.

"Chop, chop, we haven't got all night." Joyce encouraged, not caring a damn about what Damon was going through.

Damon shakily signed in all the necessary places, Jack and Joyce bending over him, ever ready to point them out for him.

Two guards walked into the room at that moment.

"Is he done?" Gianna demanded shriekily, looking over Joyce's shoulder.

Joyce snatched the signed papers from Damon.

"Sure is." She responded, giggling as she got to her feet, shuffling the papers.

"Take him out now," Michael instructed the guards, pointing at Damon who was on the floor.

The guards immediately rushed over and grabbed him up.

"W– wait! Let me take my belongings! Please!"

"Bastard!" Gianna hissed, "You have no belongings here! Everything you own was given to you by my daughter. Get out the way you came! Pauper! I would rather burn them down than have you leave with anything of my daughter's!"

"Joyce!" Damon shouted as they dragged him out, "How could you do this to me? Joyce, what did I ever do to you?"

But it all fell on deaf ears, Joyce was only focused on her rich boyfriend.

"If you ever let that peasant back into this place, you're all fired!" Michael shouted after them.

Damon put up a weak struggle but he was no match for the heavy-set guards. They threw him out of the gate, kicking dust in his face.

Damon stood up and banged on the gate, kicking on it after all his banging fell on deaf ears.

He decided to cut his losses and move away before they came out to beat him up again. He took out his phone to call his only friend Philip but the automated voice was quick to tell him that he had no airtime.

Damon's heart sank. He was penniless and had no way to get out of this mess.

He kept on walking thinking of how he could reach his best friend now.

Suddenly his phone rang. His eyes lit up as he thought that it was possibly Philip calling him. He picked up the phone immediately without looking at the caller ID.

"Phil–"
