"You foolish bastard!" Damon heard through the phone.
He took the phone away from his ear looked at the caller ID and saw that it was his boss. His heart immediately went into overdrive.
"S– sir –"
But the man didn't let him speak,
"You are nothing but a disgraced fool Damon! How dare you offend one of our most powerful customers! Who do you think you are!"
"Sir please let me explain –"
"You can explain to your new boss because as of this moment, you no longer work for this company! You thought we couldn't do without you because you're some kind of diligent employee? Fuck you! Stupid thing! You're a nobody! And you'll always be a nobody! And I assure you that before you get a job again in this town you would be growing white hairs already!"
Damon swallowed as he listened to his boss's insults.
"You're lucky all Jack Pierce requested is that we fire you! If he'd decided to press charges you have my word you would have spent the rest of your pathetic life in jail!"
And then he ended the call.
Damon flinched at the click. So Jack Pierce had not only taken away his wife, but he'd also taken away his means of livelihood.
Damon pocketed his phone dazedly and then began to put one foot in front of the other. He didn't know where he was going, he just kept moving. Roaming the streets with nowhere to go.
His life was completely soaked in mud and he was back at square one. He crumpled to the floor at a street-side bench and looked blankly into the night.
He couldn't think of anything to do other than sit on the floor and wallow in his shame.
He was on the floor for a long time but he didn't know how long, he suddenly realized that there was a buzzing where he was sitting. He'd ignored it for a while, thinking it was just a result of his brain thinking so much but now he realised something on his body was buzzing.
His senses returned enough that he realized it was his phone ringing. He blinked slowly, trying to bring the caller ID into focus. Even though he knew that this time it really couldn't be anyone but Philip, seeing as all the other people in his life had kicked him out of their lives.
But he was wrong again, it was an unknown number calling him.
He snorted and tossed the phone to the ground. It was probably just Jack Pierce calling him to humiliate him more.
He leaned his head against the bench and stared like a statue as passersby snickered at him. He didn't even see or hear them, he was on another planet. A planet of pain and disappointment.
But the caller persisted and finally Damon picked up the call.
"What do you want from me now?" He drawled, life completely drained from his voice.
"Am I speaking with Damon Langston?" A strange voice echoed from the other end.
Damon's eyebrows quirked.
"Who is this?" He summoned the presence of mind to ask.
"I just want to know if I'm speaking with Damon Langston please."
"Fine, whatever, yes you are. What do you want?"
The man on the other end cleared his throat.
"Good evening sir, please may I know where your current location is?"
Damon rolled his eyes weakly,
"Look you can't just call people randomly and expect them to divulge their location to you, what is this about?"
But Damon looked around anyway, squinting and trying to discern exactly where he was in the dim light for his own knowledge.
"Please sir, I promise you there's no shady business afoot, as soon as I arrive, you will be made aware of everything."
Damon opened his mouth to refuse but paused for a second. He had nothing better to do, he had nowhere to go. And more importantly, if it was shady people, he had no money to be swindled off and no one to pay ransom if he was kidnapped.
And it could be someone wanting to give him a job. A lot of the people he'd delivered things to over the years had been impressed by him, maybe this was one of them.
"Mr Langston?" The voice echoed again.
He swallowed,
"Okay fine. But see, I'm not quite sure where I am. I think it's a bus stop right outside Green Bay estate but it's too dark to be sure. You got that?"
"Yes sir! I'll be on my way immediately."
"Sure. Okay." Damon replied before the call was ended.
About 30 minutes later, Damon blinked as three luxurious cars drove and pulled to a stop right in front of him. From the middle car, a man in his mid-40s stepped out looking like wealth itself – if money was a person. Beside him were security men dressed in suits looking sharp.
"Huh?" Damon blinked up at the man as he approached him. He was confused, what was going on here?
The man bowed to him.
"My Prince." He greeted.
"I'm sorry, are you talking to me?" Damon asked confused,"Are you master Damon Langston?" The man asked in a suede voice."Yeah… I am." Damon blinked."Then yes, I'm referring to you my Prince."Damon began chuckling. As he looked into the man's face and saw how serious he was, the chuckling increased to full-on laughter. He laughed so hard, he couldn't feel his stomach anymore."Y– you guys are such g– gr– great clowns!" He burst out. "What else do you have for me?" He asked. "Come on, tell me! I haven't laughed this hard in eons. I'm usually the one being laughed at." He chuckled."I'm sorry about that my Prince but I'm not here to joke. I'm here to retrieve you."Damon laughed even harder,"Tell Jack Pierce that he pulled a good one this time! Kudos to him!" Damon chortled."Please stop this, my Prince, we have not been sent here by any Jack Pierce or such, it's time for you to go home. We've driven around all the bus stops outside Green Bay estate before we found you here, to sho
Damon was led into a huge room, the opulence of which put Hotel De Salvatore to shame. There was a large throne at the very front of the room, straight in front of Damon's path into the room. Different caliber of people filled the room, all dripping with wealth and royalty. As soon as they led him in, a trumpet sounded and an announcer shouted from somewhere,"All welcome and hail! Prince Damon Langston! Prince of the kingdom and rightful heir to the throne!"Everyone rose up immediately and bowed to him, they remained bowed as he stood, completely dumbfounded, staring at the scene before him. What the hell?Everyone remained bowed as Damon stared straight ahead at the old man who was sitting on the throne, looking for all the world like the King that he was.Slowly Damon began marching towards him, seeing nothing else to do. It seemed to him that the old man held all the answers he needed at that moment. As he stopped at the foot of the throne and looked up at the old man, everyone r
The King chuckled delightedly."Okay son, I don't know who Phillip is but I assure you, you can do whatever it is you want. Just hold on until all your assets have been transferred to you."Damon's head came up to stare at his grandfather,"A– Assets?"King Richard smiled like he'd been waiting for this day to come all his life – which he technically had."Yes my boy, assets."~~~~~~Brandley led Damon to what would now be called his room. It was time for the presentation of assets and he had to look the part.Brandley looked back at him briefly and smiled,"My full name is Brandley Cook. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. I was your father's aide. Brought up to be his right-hand man but at his death I defected to your grandfather's side."He pushed open a door,"And now, upon your arrival, I am yours."Damon blinked and nodded, moving ahead of Brandley to enter the room.Brandley saw his expression and smiled compassionately,"I know this is all a lot to take in but I assur
"Oh my God mum, I wonder what the Prince would look like! Gosh, if I wasn't already engaged, I wouldn't mind being his wife!" Joyce gushed like a child. Her mother looked at her with disdain."Why is your brain so hardwired to settle for less this child? If you could break up a two-year marriage to upgrade to a better man, what's hard about breaking up a month-old relationship and a three-day engagement to upgrade to an even better man?" Gianna chided.Joyce opened her mouth in shock. She had no words. The ramifications of her mother's statement hit her hard. She blinked as she regained her voice,"B– but mother –""But nothing you foolish child! You will dress up to kill and when it is our turn to pay allegiance to the prince, you will do everything in your power to seduce him to become yours! And I will be there watching, so don't even think about slacking off. It's not every day a prince who is an eligible bachelor just pops up out of nowhere to be crowned!"Joyce swallowed."Yes m
During the rehearsals, Damon had wondered how over two hundred people would be made to kiss his ring and pledge oath but he was surprised at how everyone made quick work of it. It seemed to him like they were experts at it. His hand was held up by a man as they all came, placed their hand on a Bible beside him, repeated the words after the Bishop, then bent and kissed his ring.Damon smiled at each of them as they came and left and as one particular person came up to his throne, his smile froze. He had not been prepared for this. He'd been greeting people all evening and not once had he come across the Ramseys. It had never even occurred to him that they might be there. He had been so mesmerized and caught up in his new world that he'd forgotten them and the pain they brought to him. He raised his head and saw them all lined up, with Michael in front, already approaching him, followed closely by his wife, then Jack Pierce and Joyce, his ex-wife.They averted their gazes from him as
“Your majesty, your kingdom awaits! It is time for you to fulfill your duties as the future king of our great kingdom.” Brandley exclaimed as he proceeded into Damon’s room.Immediately Brandley stepped in he noticed the table had a lot of partially closed books with some of them sporting a sort of tag on them. To him this indicated that Damon had been up all night researching. But just as he was about to leave Damon woke up. “Brandley?” Damon queried, his voice a sleepy whisper. “What's going on?”“Good Morning your majesty. I didn’t mean to wake you up.” He apologised as he took a bow.“Oh.” He sat up. “It's fine Brandley. What time is it?” Damon asked.“It’s nine o’clock my prince. Today is the day you can finally meet Mr. Dunston and –”“God! That's today?” Damon exclaimed, out of the bed in an instant. Finally it was the day that Damon could meet up with his best friend Philip Dunston. With how tight his schedule had been, he hadn’t had time to contact his friend and Brandley ha
Joyce stormed into the house, banging the door shut and tossing her bag onto the floor carelessly.“Mum!” She screamed, rushing to her mother's room, tears welling up in her eyes.“Mum!” She shouted as she barged into the room. But her mother was nowhere in sight. She gave a big sniff as she struggled to hold her tears at bay, stalking to the bathroom to check if her mother was there.“Mum?” She wailed as she pushed open the door and was greeted with an empty bathroom. She could no longer hold it back, she burst into tears and hurried out of the room to check for her mother elsewhere. She checked the kitchen, went out to the garden and finally nearly killed the guards.“We don't know where she went madam!” The gate guard whose shirt collar she'd hijacked shrieked.Joyce’s senses returned and she decided it wasn't worth losing her dignity over. She trudged back inside with her tear streaked face and sat on a sofa to cry.Her day had been nothing short of horrible. She had been unable t
The arrival of Brandley had disrupted he and Philip's meeting and he couldn't help but feel guilty considering the fact that he and Philip hadn't seen each other in a while. He'd asked Phillip to accompany them, thinking that he'd have the opportunity to speak with him on the drive over but Brandley had other plans. “I guess this is going to be my lifestyle from now on.” He sighed to himself as the elevator doors closed before he and Brandley.“Is everything alright, your majesty?” Brandley inquired.“Yes Brandley.” He paused, “I just wish the timing hadn't been mixed up and I could've spent more time with Phillip.”“I apologise, my Prince.” Brandley placated.“That's fine.” Damon responded. The past week had entailed him studying the financial readings for the royal companies which belonged to his grandfather. All of which were his now. While doing his research he had noticed a major financial flaw which was making the company bleed thousands of dollars unnecessarily but he'd been a
