Partway into their wait, the body of the decadent horror began to show signs of struggle as it tried to reclaim control over itself and recover. The Aeth who were closely monitoring the situation immediately noticed this. Quickly, everybody was on alert as they observed the horror’s body. At first, the signs of struggle were intermittent, like unconscious twitching. But as time passed, the twitches grew more frequent until they became full-on visible strain from the horror’s powerfully contorting muscles. Charmy was before the decadent horror in no time and when she stopped a turquoise blue whip with flower patterns running along its length appeared on her hand. The whip was wrapped in three loops and was about two meters long when completely unfurled. In a blur of motion, Charmy swung her whip at the horror so fast that only a faint blue arc could be seen drawing a dark trail like it was tearing through space. Only when the whip landed on its target could the others see it again. There was a burst of blood as Charmy’s whip left deep lacerations on the horror’s body tearing deep to the bone, causing its boiling blood that was resistant to the cold silence of space to shower everywhere. “What the hell are those things?” Colonel Vehe could not help but exclaim in shock as he watched the decadent horror suffer through repeated instances of regeneration and devouring. He was terrified because never in his wildest dreams had he ever imagined that an ability like this could exist. As if answering his question, Charmy’s voice rang out in his ears like a haunting specter. “Subatomic living nanamite parasites. That’s what they are. Charmy’s power was incredible, but all Colonel Vehe could see as he watched the subatomic organisms eat away at the decadent horror’s body was how terrifying it was. Nobody explained to the colonel what kind of creatures subatomic nanamite parasites were but he could envision something like this existing on Earth and eating away at every biological or nonbiological organism like an enormous tide washing through the planet in one massive sweep. The battle was won… the decadent horror was defeated, trapped within the roots of a tree to serve as nutrient and fertilizer to ensure the healthy growth of the tree. This was something worth celebrating. It was a feat that should have brought relief and joy to those who had struggled desperately for so long. Yet, no one could bring themselves to feel good about it. It was all just so anticlimactic! When Eris and Charmy had appeared to reinforce Joyner and the others, they hadn’t expected the battle to be resolved so swiftly and effortlessly by the two of them. What the others had expected was that with the two of them joining in, the battle situation would improve with back and forths being exchanged between the decadent horror and their group until finally with a wave of resolve the horror would be defeated. Indeed, the battle situation did improve… the horror was eventually defeated — sealed away to a miserable fate — yet there was no back-and-forth exchange of moves nor an
