Understood!!
This word spread through the arena like a storm as the cadets responded to instructor Fel's query. Instructor Fel nodded as she saw this, she then turned to Arran to say.
"That's all for today. You'll be briefed on what to expect at another time, but for today, you'll have to stand by on the side and watch how we conduct lessons here. Do you understand?"
As Arran was about to respond, suddenly, there came a low and creepy sound of laughter.
Arran, instructor Fel, and the rest of the other cadets turned towards the source of the sound only to see that at the very edge of their formation, there was a young man who was standing there still in the midst of laughing. He made no attempt to hold himself back.
Seeing him, the faces of some of the cadets there changed as they recognized who that young man was. At the back, Charmy cursed under her breath and her playful expression from before changed. What replaced it was a deep disdain and loathing that reflected off of her eyes as she looked at the young man. Eris who was by her side also had a distasteful expression on her face.
The young man in question was a person who had an air of refinement around him, but in contrast to this, his face that could be considered handsome, with sharp sword-like features, had a kind of ingratiating and despicable smile that gave people the urge to slap him across the face.
Instructor Fel, upon seeing who it was that had dared to interrupt her, frowned.
She said to him, "Kellogg, is there anything that you'd like to say?"
As if he had just realized that he had laughed out loud, causing people to look at him, the young man said, "oh! It's nothing instructor Fel, I meant no disrespect. It's just that I find the situation here very funny, that's all."
Charmy who was at the back could not help herself but retort by saying, "and just what about this do you find funny, hmm?"
Kellogg turned back to face Charmy and gave her what was supposed to be a dashing smile, but instead just gave her the urge to puke. He said to her, "well it's just that I never thought that I'd see a Kingsman this weak before. To be honest, it's kind of hilarious!"
What Kellogg said caused everybody's expression to change.
What Kellogg said could be considered disrespectful to all the Kingsmen out there.
It had to be known that while it was indeed true that the current Kingsman in front of them was currently very weak, not just everyone could say something so insulting in front of the Kingsmen. That was because the Kingsmen were known to be very protective of their own kind considering how few they were in the first place and how difficult it was to propagate. If there was anybody found to be disrespectful to the Kingsmen, no matter how weak that Kingsman was, the rest of them would rally to defend their fellow kin and band against all outsiders.
Not everybody had the kind of courage to do that, but it just so happened that Kellogg was one of the few who dared to do so. That was because Kellogg belonged to the royal family who possesses an equally powerful bloodline.
As much as the Kingsman bloodline is regarded as the top bloodline in the whole Aeth race, it did not mean that there were no other bloodlines that could not rival it. The royal families also possessed bloodlines that were as powerful as the Kingsman bloodline. The reason the Kingsman bloodline is considered the number one was because of how unique it was. That was why Kellogg was daring enough to disrespect a weak Kingsman, granted he could not be so unruly in front of a very powerful Kingsman.
Charmy who was on the receiving end of that disgusting smile coldly scoffed and said to him, "you'd better watch what you say, lest you invite a disaster upon yourself."
Others may be afraid to rebuke Kellogg, but she was not one of them.
Kellogg just smiled more brightly before turning to instructor Fel and said "instructor, I'm not wrong, am I? it's a fact that this Kingsman is a weak mortal. I'm just stating the facts and saying what every other person is thinking in their minds."
As everybody heard Kellogg say that, the cadets could not help but curse him in their minds. Granted they were all thinking that in their minds but you did not see any of them being as high profile as Kellogg and drawing attention to himself with this stunt he was pulling… not that they could afford to.
Instructor Fel was feeling helpless. She knew just how Kellogg was like, but she could not do anything to him, not when he had not committed any major blunders.
She could only helplessly say, "you are right. So, what are you getting at?"
Kellogg replied, "nothing. I'm not implying anything."
The way he said it, with so much sincerity, as if he could never tell a lie, one would have the urge to believe him wholeheartedly.
That was until he said again, "I just find it a pity that we would have to accept such a weakling into our ranks. I mean, he is too far behind us in terms of strength and there is no way to close the gap. I'm just afraid that he would end up dragging us down in the future."
Once Kellogg finished saying this, the other cadets immediately realized that this was a very important concern.
No matter how powerful one's bloodline and talent was, it was a fact that he was currently too weak and too far behind them in terms of strength. What would happen if they were forced to team up with him in other to complete missions in the future, he would only end up being a burden to them and drag them down.
What the world did not lack were lackeys who like to ride on other people's coattails. Immediately, all those who wanted to suck up to Kellogg started saying loudly.
"That's right. He is too weak right now."
"We cannot be expected to just accept him just like that, right?"
"This is not right. The council should not be doing this."
Arran just watched all this coldly. He had expected that his presence would not be accepted completely just like that and that there would be some form of opposition, but he did not expect it to come from the people that he was supposed to be studying with. He looked at Kellogg and saw him staring back at him as he sneered despicably.
Arran had seen people like this before. They had no reason to mess with you nor do they need one. They just bit everyone that they did not like, like a mad dog that bit everybody they saw all just to fulfill some form of twisted pleasure. He did not feel that these sorts of people were worth his time so he ignored Kellogg and instead turned his attention towards Charmy and the other girl in her company.
Kellogg who saw how Arran disregarded him turned sour and he frowned before smoothing his expression. Inside he thought, 'just wait, continue being arrogant. I'll make sure to make your life a living hell as long as we are studying together.'
Kellogg was pissed at Arran not because he was jealous of him or anything, he felt it beneath him to be jealous of a mortal, he just did not like how Charmy and Eris seemed to be interested in him and so he decided to mess with him a little. But now that Arran disregarded him, he felt insulted and decided to teach him a painful lesson.
Instructor Fel saw how the others were following Kellogg to give Arran a hard time and was very annoyed. She coughed coldly to silence the crowd. When they had quieted down, she turned to Kellogg and said.
"Hmm, what you have brought up is a very important concern, but orders are orders and I can't do anything about it. So what do you suggest we do to resolve this issue?"
Instructor Fel knew that Kellogg did all this with an agenda in mind, but she decided not to do anything about him and follow along.
She thought to use this opportunity to see how Arran would handle pressure so as to better understand this new student of hers.
Kellogg after hearing her say this was relieved because he knew that instructor Fel would not interfere. Feeling fully confident that his plan would work, he said, "it's very simple. He just has to prove to us that he has the qualifications to train with us and not drag us down in the future."
Feeling smug, Kellogg turned to face Arran and the look on his face could just read, 'ignoring me, Humph, I'll bury your head in the ground and take a piss on it.'
"He just has to prove himself."When Kellogg said these words, everybody had weird expressions on their faces. In their minds, they were puzzled.'How exactly do you expect a mortal to prove himself to you?'Take for instance, if it's a battle you want, then are you not ashamed to suggest fighting a mortal? In terms of power… you are stronger than he is, in terms of technique… you have received training from the best of the best, what then is there to prove… is it who is more handsome?Let's compare again, you have a more impressive background than your opponent and everybody knows this, so how do want him to prove himself?Do you say to him… 'look, my daddy owns a planet, what does yours have?'That's just absurd!Currently, thoughts like these were running through everybody's minds now and even Kellogg's lackeys did not know how to respond to this.Arran had to resist the urge to roll his eyes.
The arena was silent.Right now the situation was at an impasse, and Charmy had no way to resolve it. If she continued to rebuke Kellogg, then it would seem that she was not confident in Arran's chances of winning, but if she did not, then it would basically be sending Arran into Kellogg's trap to suffer.Actually, the situation itself was not too tricky, it was the choice of Arran's opponent that was very tricky.Omar may not be the most powerful cadet in this batch, but he had a very troublesome trait, or talent if it could be called that.Omar's presence was very weak and was almost nonexistent. If you put him in a crowd, by the time you blink he would already have vanished from your senses. He may be right by your side, but because of how weak his presence was, you would find it almost impossible to notice him.On a normal day, this trait was not a problem for other people, but in combat, this trait was a nightmare. Because of how it is difficu
The technique that Omar used in his strike was a very simple one.In principle, it was very similar to what Arran used when he sparred with Brendell in the outpost. At that time, during the final decisive moment of the fight, Arran performed a feint with his leg by reducing the amount of force used in his kick. By doing so he did not fully extend himself which left him with enough strength to pull back his attack in time and deliver the winning strike. In this sense, when Omar stabbed at the dummy, he did not immediately use his full strength but instead delivered it in short, rapid bursts which enabled him to stab three times in a single moment.A technique like this was too simple to perform by anybody who had received professional training. There was nothing about this technique that would spur the amazement of the cadets. Why were they amazed all the same? You would ask. That was because of the simple fact that Omar was even able to hide
Instructor Fel was slightly worried, but after thinking for some time, she decided not to interfere. She decided to watch how the situation would further develop. If she saw that things were going too far to be reasonable, then she would have to step in then.Omar who had been silent and expressionless all this time finally showed some emotion. Deep in his eyes there was a sharp gleam that showed his resolution to finish this with his next move.Even if he was not concerned initially when he was facing Arran's challenge, but seeing how Arran was able to overcome all the tests that he had put forward, Omar was finally resolved to do his best. After all, it would be in bad taste if he were to lose to a mortal.Omar raised his dagger and got into a proper stance. Suddenly, the air around him changed. If before Omar was casual in the way he conducted himself, then at this moment, Omar was like an unsheathed weapon of mass destruction. The deterrence effect that he e
“How is it possible!!”When everybody heard Kellogg screaming that question hysterically, they were immediately reminded of a very serious issue. That’s right, how exactly was Arran able to accurately track Omar’s movement? It had to be known that Omar’s strongest point was his very weak presence. Even among the current batch of cadets, there was no one who had greater stealth techniques than Omar. So it was safe to say that if Omar wanted his movement to stay hidden, then nobody would be able to track him, so when was it the turn of a mere mortal to do so?To be honest, even Arran himself was not sure how he was able to follow Omar’s movements. If Arran had to be honest with himself, he would have to admit that under normal circumstances, he would have had a very hard time figuring out Omar’s movements and that it would be impossible to see through that last move of Omar’s, but somehow, he was able t
Somewhere in the prime origin world, the Etherium! This was a small room that was devoid of light and which was only enveloped by darkness. Everywhere within this enclosed space, there was thick grey mist that filled the room, flowing endlessly and giving off an ancient and desolate vibe.Suddenly, from the mist came bright specks of twinkling lights, like stars that chased away the darkness. As more specks of light appeared, they filled all the available space and lit up the room, transforming it into a miniature galaxy. This galaxy contained in it small depictions of a system of stars, nebulas, and other planetary and heavenly bodies, and at the top of this galaxy of stars were seven bright and massive stars that eclipsed all other stars in this galaxy. Each star had its own color and gave off different types of energies each with its own characteristic. One was fiery like a powerful gas giant, endlessly churning with heat. Another was smooth and
Somewhere else. This was a room that was bright as compared to the other mysterious space. This room was furnished sparely with only a round table that was hollow in the middle.Around the circular table were simple chairs that circled around it. There were thirteen chairs in total and in the center of the table, there was a projection of the map of the universe which showed the territories that the Aeth was in control of.Currently, three of those chairs were occupied by councilman Homer and his other colleagues who were just in the mysterious space reporting to the leaders of the Aeth race.It was not known how long they had been sitting here but suddenly, their eyes that were shut tight opened and their consciousness left that space. As clarity returned to their eyes, the three of them took some time to think about what had been discussed previously. The female councilwoman there, as if realizing something, turned to councilman Homer and
“You can see me!!”Inside the room in which there was supposed to be only Arran came a startled voice. Its words were filled with disbelief.Arran turned his head as if to look for where the source of the voice came from. After turning his head full circle, he fixed his gaze towards the other end of the bed and opened his mouth to say, “I don’t think there is any other creature here with me except for you.”“Ahh!” the person screamed and what followed was a gust of wind in the room as loose pieces of paper scattered everywhere in the room.In front of Arran, what seemed to be wind bundled together in the form of a miniature tornado flew across the room and made its way out of the room by passing through the walls. It may seem like that was all there was to it but in Arran's eyes, what he saw was different.Inside the wind, Arran could make out the form of a humanoid creature flying suspended in the air. Thi
