GETTING A SYSTEM

Andrew couldn’t believe his ears.

“I can’t do that, Doctor. Three million dollars in three days is impossible. There has to be another option.”

The doctor inspected Andrew. From how the man looked, he knew he wouldn’t be able to pay the money.

However, three million dollars was what they needed to go through with the standard procedures, and he had not even gone to the compensation of the surgeons.

Three million dollars was just the tip of the iceberg.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Raine. If you can’t get that amount, I’d have to prepare a spot for your mother in the cemetery. You can leave.”

Andrew picked himself up from the seat, and his shoulders fell. His eyes were blank as he pondered on his next step.

“I should say my last goodbye,” Andrew said sadly.

The hospital had placed his mother on life support with different wires connected to her body system.

Machines beeped around her as they tried their best to keep her alive.

Andrew clenched his fist as he watched her. He had used his money to get a gift for Karen, and now he couldn’t keep his mother alive.

Now, he had no choice but to go back if he didn’t want his mother to die.

“I can’t believe I’m back here again,” Andrew said as his eyes ran through the expanse of the gates.

His heart still yearned for Karen, but she had betrayed him along with her family, and he would do everything in his power to bring them down.

It was just a matter of time.

The doors to the mansion opened, and Andrew walked in.

“Who do we have here?” The shrill voice of Andrew’s mother-in-law rang out the moment she spotted Andrew’s figure.

“Carmela,” Andrew said with a straight face. He had prepared his mind to take in whatever insults they would throw at him.

“Show some respect, Andrew. She’s older than you.” Karen said. She had stepped out of her room when she heard her mother’s voice.

“I’ll only show respect to whomever it is due. I am your husband. Where was my respect after everything I did to you?” Andrew glared at Karen. His eyes had become clearer after she had cheated on him.

Andrew now understood that she never deserved his love or struggle.

"You are nothing compared to me now. Know your place, Andrew.”

Karen lashed out before she eyed him mockingly.

"Ok then, I need some money." Andrew said to her

“What? We don’t have any money to give to you. You are now a freeloader?” Carmela said as she shot up from her seat.

“Yes, Andrew. You don’t have any right to ask me for money.” Karen glared at him.

“Return my money, and I’ll sign those divorce papers,” Andrew said and looked straight at them.

The Winters looked at him and kept their mouths shut.

“At last, you have stated something reasonable,” Carmela said, and she reached the table beside her chair to bring out the documents.

Andrew collected the documents and took one last look at Karen, but she turned her face away.

Andrew only signed the divorce papers.

“As from now on, nothing is connecting us, Karen. I hope you live a happy life.” He said.

“I will, and there’d be nothing you can do about it.”

Karen said and walked away.

Carmela ordered the butler to bring out a box of cash.

“It’s been a good time, Master Andrew.” The butler said with a lowered voice as he handed over the box, and Andrew nodded with a small smile.

Andrew looked up and saw James staring at him from the top of the staircase.

He had a slight smirk as he drew a line across his throat.

Andrew replied to his threat with a steel look.

He wouldn't cower in front of this disgraceful being.

‘The next time we meet, you would fear me.’ Andrew muttered in his heart.

Andrew stepped out of the gates and bid goodbye to Ben, the security guard.

At least with this money, he could keep his mother alive for a few weeks until he could apply for a bank loan, but he had nothing to use as collateral.

Strangely, there were no signs of taxis on the street, and Andrew knew he had to get to the hospital as soon as possible to negotiate with the doctor.

As he turned into an alleyway, some strange men immediately cornered him.

“We found him, Boss.” One man said with a deep, resonating voice.

The strange men shifted around to create a little path, and a man walked in.

“James?” Andrew said in surprise. At first, he wondered why these men had stopped him, but now it all made sense.

The blonde bastard was after his money.

“Hello, Andrew. I’m sure you know what I’m here for. Hand it over.” James said as he quickly made his intentions known, showcasing his darker side.

James didn’t understand why his sister would hand over such an amount to a worthless outsider. The money would be better off in his hands.

“James. Please be reasonable. I need this to save my mother.” Andrew clenched his fist as he spoke. He couldn’t understand why James would stoop this low.

“I don’t care about that old hag. You aren’t ready to comply, and you have forced my hand.” James said and signaled his men.

Before Andrew could utter another word, he received a heavy punch on his lips, causing him to stumble to the floor.

“James, stop this.” Andrew’s cries fell on deaf ears as he desperately tried to defend his face.

However, Andrew couldn’t stop the incoming barrage of hits that landed on his body.

The hits had broken his nose and torn his lips. He couldn’t feel his limbs anymore.

“Leave him alone,” James said when he saw that Andrew’s body was no longer moving.

“Take the bag, and let’s leave him.” James gave out an order to his men, and they stopped the attack.

Andrew's face became unrecognizable. As he lay in a pool of blood, his chest slowly rose and fell with shallow breathing.

James laughed and spat on Andrew’s body before turning around to leave.

Andrew couldn’t see a thing as he lay on the floor.

‘I’m sorry for not saving you, Mom. You can scold me when we meet in the afterlife.’ Andrew said in his heart, and soon his heart stopped.

However, in that lonely alleyway, a bright light shot down from the sky and landed on Andrew’s chest.

The lightning spread through his body, mending and healing the broken bones and injuries.

Andrew immediately took in a deep breath and opened his eyes.

At that moment, a blue panel appeared before him while a monotone voice echoed in his head.

[Congratulations, Andrew Raine.]

“What is happening?” Andrew said as he looked straight at the panel in front of him.

He raised his hand to inspect it.

His arm wasn’t aching anymore, and he felt better than before.

“This can not be real. I must be in a dream.” Andrew couldn’t stop laughing, but the same monotone voice interrupted him.

Andrew couldn’t believe his eyes and ears.

He had heard about things like this, but he couldn’t believe it happened in real life.

He thought systems only appeared in novels and fantasy stories, but now he had an actual system.

“What immense luck!”

Andrew picked himself up from the floor and looked around his body. He felt more robust and better.

At that moment, he immediately heard the notification sound of his little phone.

“Could it be?” Andrew still had an inkling of doubt, but as he opened his phone, he saw an alert from his bank.

“Credit Alert: $1,000,000,000”

“Sender: Transfer from TNS.”

“Account Balance: $1,000,000,020.”

Andrew smiled widely. It was too good to be true.

He had become a billionaire in one night, and now it was time to make everyone pay.
