Over the next few weeks, Bethany did her best to focus on her own growth.

She started attending self-improvement seminars, rekindled old friendships, her friends Susan and others who had made fun of her while she was a dishwasher, reached out to her and apologised for their behaviour, which she forgave.

She even went on a few casual dates, though none of them felt right, how could they?

One afternoon, while preparing for a major company gala, Bethany overheard Patricia's name again.

“She’s hosting the charity auction this weekend,” a colleague said. “Apparently, Mr. Hudson Bentley will be introducing her as his fiancée officially then.”

“Wow!! Really?” Another said and continued; “She is so beautiful, I can't imagine how she must feel. If only I were in her place, I would never leave, I can only imagine how she would feel.”

Bethany’s stomach twisted, but she forced herself to stay composed. She couldn’t let anyone see how deeply the news affected her negatively.

Over the next few weeks, Bethany focused on building her own life outside of work. She joined a painting class, started volunteering at a local animal shelter, and even began dating someone she met through a friend. His name was Evan, and while she wasn’t ready to call it love, his kindness and patience were helping her heal from the betrayal from Troy Reece. She just couldn't help but wonder why he would sell their daughter off to someone else. He didn't even try to reach her. Bethany swore that she wasn't going to let him go should they ever meet in her lifetime. At work, she kept her interactions with Logan strictly professional which was what she had to do to keep her job there. Her life depended on that job and things were starting to look really good for her. So for her sanity and Logan's, she just focused on the reason why she works. The lingering tension between Logan and Bethany began to fade and was replaced by mutual respect for one another, professionally. Bethany

Henry really wanted to meet his wife and kids but she wouldn't let him due to the restraining order. So he had to go to someone who could help him at least for the information he had given them, he needed a reward. So Mr Fletcher promised that he would help him out to the best of his abilities, so this day, he received a text message to go to a cafe and there he would meet his family. The November air was blowing hard and Henry Donald stood outside the small café, his hands were trembling not from the cold, but from the turmoil and nervousness inside him. So he held on to the envelope from Mr. Fletcher’s office. Inside was the fragile hope of reconnecting with his family more of a court order to counter the restraining order. The door jingled open, and there they were, his wife, Margaret, and their two kids, Emma and Lucas. Margaret's face was cold towards her, her eyes wary of him. She held Lucas’s hand tightly, while Emma clung to her other side. They were older than

Henry gently lowered Lucas to the ground. “Thank you,” he said to Margaret, his voice filled with gratitude, he continued; “For letting me see them.” Margaret crossed her arms but didn’t look away. “It’s not just about you, Henry. It’s about them. Don’t let them down again by getting involved in stupid things, you might be dragging their names down with whatever it is you are doing.” As Margaret turned to lead the kids out, Lucas paused at the door, waving over his shoulder. “Bye, Dad!” Henry waved back, his throat tightening. “Bye, buddy. I’ll see you soon.” Emma looked back too, her gaze softening just for a moment. “Don’t mess this up, okay?” she said, Emma really wanted his father home with them, she didn't like the person her mum was seeing, but it seems it's just so out of their control. But as a child she could only hope that they do. “I won’t,” Henry whispered, watching as they disappeared down the street. He stood there long after they were gone, his heart ach

“Daddy!” Lucas called out excited. “Hey, my little stars,” he murmured, pulling them close. His voice cracked as he held them, their small arms clutching onto him tightly. Margaret didn’t say another word, she only turned and walked away, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. Lucas was giggling, his face buried in Henry’s neck, while Emma’s embrace was fierce, her fingers gripping his coat as if she never wanted to let go. As the door clicked shut behind Margaret, Emma pulled back slightly, she had a lot bottled up inside and needed to tell her father. “Daddy,” she whispered, her voice low and urgent, “I don’t like him.” Henry frowned, brushing a strand of her dark hair away from her face. “Who, sweetheart?” “The man Mama’s been seeing,” Emma said, her lips trembling. “He’s always around. He’s… he’s not nice.” Lucas, who had been contentedly leaning against Henry’s chest, nodded in agreement, “He shouts a lot at us, he isn't nice to us dad, only when mum is around,”

Two days later after their encounter with Henry, Emma found a way to talk to his father directly over the phone. In the letter he wrote to them, he kept his number in it and Emma was happy when she found it. So she secretly called him and told him he had something to show him but it would be after school, she feared that her mother was eavesdropping or worse yet, her mum's lover. So they agreed on where to meet the next day. One fateful day, the school bell rang sharply, signaling the end of the day. "Come on Lucas, it's time... let's go." Emma held onto her phone tightly as she walked out of the class, her heart pounding heavily in her chest. Lucas, her younger brother, trailed behind her, quiet and nervous as well, they were both scared. They didn't know what to do, but this was their only chance to stop their suffering. The two siblings exchanged a look, their silent bond stronger than ever, they were all they had. Despite having a mum, they felt lonely. "Are you ready f

Emma held her phone tightly. She had spent so many nights praying for this moment, imagining a version of her father that would swoop in and save them. Now that it was happening, it felt like a dream. They got to the police station and the police man they met was quite hostile and cold. But then Henry Donald wasn't having it. He walked towards him and said firmly; “My kids need help, their mother’s partner has been abusing them, and we have evidence.” The officer, a man in his early fifties with a weathered face, seeing that he was very serious and wasn't kidding, he shrugged and said; “Let’s take this into a private room, come with me.” They were brought into a small interview room, where another officer joined them, a younger woman named Officer Reyes who introduced herself with a kind smile. She placed a recorder on the table and looked at Emma and Lucas gently. “Okay, sweetheart,” Reyes said, focusing on Emma. “Can you start by telling me what’s been going on?” Emma gla

That night, Margaret followed through, she needed to do this alone and make sure her lover Richard leaves her house that night. After her encounter with her ex-husband and kids, she promised to send her pretentious lover out. Margaret stood at the doorway that night after returning from work her arms crossed tightly against her chest. Her face was filled with rage and sadness at the same time, she just didn't expect that the man's Richard, whom she thought was her safe haven and final settlement, was actually a monster in disguise. Richard was sitting in the living room watching the evening game he loved to watch but, it just might be the last he watched in that house as a storm was brewing inside Margaret's chest. Seeing how furious she was, Richard turned off the TV and walked towards her, reaching her to give her a welcome kiss but Margaret turned away and shoved his hands off. The house was quiet even at night, except for the faint ticking of the clock in the living room. Margaret sat at the dining table, she had used her last strength to prepare dinner for the family, but no one was eating and no one was talking. Her face was buried in her hands, she was filled with remorse for not realising that her children were victims of domestic violence. The silence and guilt she was feeling was oppressive, filled with the weight of everything she had ignored, everything she had let happen around her without knowing. Emma and Lucas sat on the chair on the table with Henry between them, his arms around their shoulders protectively, these were his kids. Emma’s eyes stayed fixed on her mother, burning with unspoken questions, words she needed to pass across but she kept it all in. Henry took a deep breath and spoke up, besides he was the head of the family, and as such he was to take the lead in things like this. “I believe we all have something to say to eac

Patricia had gone to check on a renovation project upstairs, giving Logan a rare moment alone with his children. He leaned forward, resting his arms on the table. “You’re all too busy.” Seraphina smirked. “That’s rich, coming from you.” Logan chuckled. “I know. But when was the last time you all sat like this? No boardrooms, no deals, no strategies?” None of them answered and then Logan sighed. “You were raised to be strong, to command, to win. But power without family means nothing.” Alexander exhaled, rubbing his temples. “You’re getting sentimental here, Dad.” “Maybe,” Logan admitted and continued; “Or maybe I just don’t want you three to lose what I fought so hard to build, which was not the empire, but this.” Alexander tapped the rim of his glass. “And what exactly is this?” Logan looked at them, they were his legacy, his greatest creations, he utt

Tonight, however it was not about power or strategy, it was about family. Seraphina Bentley stepped out of her sleek car, a product of her company’s innovation. The estate’s lights illuminated the driveway, which was a path she had walked on since childhood. She didn’t need to knock, the doors swung open as if the house itself knew she had arrived. "About time," a familiar voice drawled. She smirked as Alexander leaned again

Two months after Dominion's fall, the three heirs met again, this time in Hong Kong, inside a high-rise that belonged to Bentley International Banking. Inside the boardroom, tension crackled like a coming storm. Seraphina stood at the head of the table, her gaze sharp. "Dominion wasn’t the end." Alexander leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. There were unspoken words between them For years, Troy had imagined this very moment when he would talk to his son in person again, he had rehearsed apologies in the quiet of his guilt, whispered confessions into thin air, but now, standing before his son, no words seemed enough. Ethan’s fists clenched at his sides, his expression unreadable. There was hesitation in his eyes, a war between the hurt of abandonment and the reluctant gratitude he couldn’t ignore. The weight of Troy’s absence had shaped him in ways no one would hope for, but then the knowledge that his father had, in his own way, protected him from Arthur’s threats, from a darkness Ethan never fully understood. "You left me," Ethan said at last, his voice quiet but razor-sharp. "For years, I told myself I’d never forgive you, I even hoped we would never meet." Troy’s th

Troy’s SUV screeched to a stop in front of the house. He was out before the engine died, his gun drawn. Ethan was right behind him; he was just a young man who hated violence, but he wanted to help them out, since his father did the same. Troy’s worst fear was confirmed when he saw the back door wide open. 'Oh no, no no…’ Troy thought. His blood went ice cold as he couldn't hear any sound, he walked gently into the house. “Amelia!” he shouted, but no one answered, there was silence. Then suddenly, there was a thud from upstairs. Troy moved fast, taking the stairs two at a time. Ethan followed, his heart pounding. The bedroom door was locked, but Troy kicked it open, his eyes widened. What he saw made him freeze, Amelia was there. A man in black had her, one arm wrapped tightly around her throat, the other holding a knife to her stomach. Her eyes widened when she saw Troy. “Troy… I am sorry,” she muttered. The man tightened his grip and uttered; “One more step, and s

Troy and Ethan sat in the back of a black SUV, parked a block away from Arthur’s location. Ethan was scared out of his wits, his hands clenched. “I don’t like this,” Ethan muttered. Troy checked his watch, his expression unreadable. “Son, you don’t have to like it. You just have to follow my lead.” Ethan let out a sharp breath. “Arthur thinks I’m selling you out. What if he catches on that I am lying to him? He will kill me and you.” Troy finally turned to him, his gaze transfixed on him, he uttered; “Then we make sure he doesn’t walk away out of this place tonight.” Ethan swallowed hard, he had always seen Troy as the controlled, sophisticated filmmaker, but now? Now, he was looking at a man who had been in the shadows, in the dark before, a man who knew exactly how to handle threats or who used to give one in the past. Troy’s phone buzzed and it was a message from Author. ‘Warehouse. 30 minutes. Come alone.’ Ethan’s stomach twisted. “It’s a setup, Troy.” Troy smirked

Ethan continued. “He wants me to set you up. If I don’t, he’s threatening Amelia.” There was silence. Then, Troy’s voice dropped to something dangerous; “Where is he?” Ethan exhaled shakily. “Troy, you don’t understand. Arthur isn’t just some con man. He’s dangerous. He has people. He won’t stop until…” Troy cut him off. “I don’t care who he has.” His voice was deadly calm. “No one threatens my family.” Ethan hesitated. “So… what do we do?” Troy leaned back, his mind racing.
