Henry gently lowered Lucas to the ground. “Thank you,” he said to Margaret, his voice filled with gratitude, he continued; “For letting me see them.”

Margaret crossed her arms but didn’t look away. “It’s not just about you, Henry. It’s about them. Don’t let them down again by getting involved in stupid things, you might be dragging their names down with whatever it is you are doing.”

As Margaret turned to lead the kids out, Lucas paused at the door, waving over his shoulder. “Bye, Dad!”

Henry waved back, his throat tightening. “Bye, buddy. I’ll see you soon.”

Emma looked back too, her gaze softening just for a moment. “Don’t mess this up, okay?” she said,

Emma really wanted his father home with them, she didn't like the person her mum was seeing, but it seems it's just so out of their control. But as a child she could only hope that they do.

“I won’t,” Henry whispered, watching as they disappeared down the street.

He stood there long after they were gone, his heart ach

“Daddy!” Lucas called out excited. “Hey, my little stars,” he murmured, pulling them close. His voice cracked as he held them, their small arms clutching onto him tightly. Margaret didn’t say another word, she only turned and walked away, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. Lucas was giggling, his face buried in Henry’s neck, while Emma’s embrace was fierce, her fingers gripping his coat as if she never wanted to let go. As the door clicked shut behind Margaret, Emma pulled back slightly, she had a lot bottled up inside and needed to tell her father. “Daddy,” she whispered, her voice low and urgent, “I don’t like him.” Henry frowned, brushing a strand of her dark hair away from her face. “Who, sweetheart?” “The man Mama’s been seeing,” Emma said, her lips trembling. “He’s always around. He’s… he’s not nice.” Lucas, who had been contentedly leaning against Henry’s chest, nodded in agreement, “He shouts a lot at us, he isn't nice to us dad, only when mum is around,”

Two days later after their encounter with Henry, Emma found a way to talk to his father directly over the phone. In the letter he wrote to them, he kept his number in it and Emma was happy when she found it. So she secretly called him and told him he had something to show him but it would be after school, she feared that her mother was eavesdropping or worse yet, her mum's lover. So they agreed on where to meet the next day. One fateful day, the school bell rang sharply, signaling the end of the day. "Come on Lucas, it's time... let's go." Emma held onto her phone tightly as she walked out of the class, her heart pounding heavily in her chest. Lucas, her younger brother, trailed behind her, quiet and nervous as well, they were both scared. They didn't know what to do, but this was their only chance to stop their suffering. The two siblings exchanged a look, their silent bond stronger than ever, they were all they had. Despite having a mum, they felt lonely. "Are you ready f

Emma held her phone tightly. She had spent so many nights praying for this moment, imagining a version of her father that would swoop in and save them. Now that it was happening, it felt like a dream. They got to the police station and the police man they met was quite hostile and cold. But then Henry Donald wasn't having it. He walked towards him and said firmly; “My kids need help, their mother’s partner has been abusing them, and we have evidence.” The officer, a man in his early fifties with a weathered face, seeing that he was very serious and wasn't kidding, he shrugged and said; “Let’s take this into a private room, come with me.” They were brought into a small interview room, where another officer joined them, a younger woman named Officer Reyes who introduced herself with a kind smile. She placed a recorder on the table and looked at Emma and Lucas gently. “Okay, sweetheart,” Reyes said, focusing on Emma. “Can you start by telling me what’s been going on?” Emma gla

That night, Margaret followed through, she needed to do this alone and make sure her lover Richard leaves her house that night. After her encounter with her ex-husband and kids, she promised to send her pretentious lover out. Margaret stood at the doorway that night after returning from work her arms crossed tightly against her chest. Her face was filled with rage and sadness at the same time, she just didn't expect that the man's Richard, whom she thought was her safe haven and final settlement, was actually a monster in disguise. Richard was sitting in the living room watching the evening game he loved to watch but, it just might be the last he watched in that house as a storm was brewing inside Margaret's chest. Seeing how furious she was, Richard turned off the TV and walked towards her, reaching her to give her a welcome kiss but Margaret turned away and shoved his hands off. Honey, what's wrong?” He asked with furrowed brows and then looked around, and added; “Are the ki

The house was quiet even at night, except for the faint ticking of the clock in the living room. Margaret sat at the dining table, she had used her last strength to prepare dinner for the family, but no one was eating and no one was talking. Her face was buried in her hands, she was filled with remorse for not realising that her children were victims of domestic violence. The silence and guilt she was feeling was oppressive, filled with the weight of everything she had ignored, everything she had let happen around her without knowing. Emma and Lucas sat on the chair on the table with Henry between them, his arms around their shoulders protectively, these were his kids. Emma’s eyes stayed fixed on her mother, burning with unspoken questions, words she needed to pass across but she kept it all in. Henry took a deep breath and spoke up, besides he was the head of the family, and as such he was to take the lead in things like this. “I believe we all have something to say to eac

Back in his office, Logan called Sean. "Track down Sloane," Logan ordered. "I want him in a room with no exits by tomorrow night. And as for Carter… well…" Sean chuckled darkly. "You want me to handle him now?" "No," Logan said and added; "Let him sweat for a bit. Then we’ll decide what to do with him." "And what about your ex-wife, Bethany?" Sean asked, his tone curious. Logan glanced toward the studio, where Bethany’s laughter had died down. "Keep an eye on her," he said, "I hired her just for her looks, but yet, I can't trust her again not after everything, report to me every single thing she does, I wanna know.” As Logan ended the call, he leaned back in his chair, the weight of the battle ahead settling on his shoulders. The burden was becoming too much despite the fact that he has yet to begin. Logan sat in the dim light of his office, as his mind raced as he tried to piece together the puzzle. He knew Carter was just a pawn, and Andrew Sloane was merely a middlem

Hours later, under tight security and with immense reluctance, Rick was escorted out of the prison. The trio waited in a black SUV, their faces grim as he climbed into the backseat. "Feels good to breathe fresh air again," Rick said, stretching his arms. "Now, let’s get down to business." Bethany turned to him, her eyes blazing with desperation. "Where is she, Rick?" Rick pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Carter. "An address… she’s being held there. But you’d better hurry. My associates aren’t exactly the patient type." Carter snatched the paper, scanning the address. "If this is a trap…" "It’s not," Rick interrupted smoothly. "I want you out of my hair as much as you want your kid back." “Well it better not be a trap, or else I will make sure you stay in jail or worse meet your untimely death regardless of the consequences.” Troy Reece uttered sternly. “Relax big guy…” Rick said, raising his hands in surrender, mockingly and added; “It's not a tra

One after the other, the trio slipped inside, moving between stacks of crates as gently as they could. The sound of voices grew louder. They spotted Marcus Kane at the center of the room, flanked by armed guards. Carter whispered, "We take out the guards quietly. Then we corner Marcus." Troy nodded, drawing his silenced pistol. One by one, they incapacitated the guards, their movements swift and precise. Finally, they approached Marcus, who was seated at a table, his back to them. Troy pressed his gun to Marcus’s temple. "Don’t move." Marcus froze, his hands raised. "Well, well, Reece. You’ve got guts showing up here." Bethany stepped forward, her voice shaking with anger. "Where is Hilary? Where is my daughter?” Marcus smirked and uttered; "Ooh!! I am shaking in my pants, wait did you think I’ll just hand her over? Rick’s paying me more than you can imagine to keep her out of your reach." Carter slammed his fist on the table. "We’re not leaving without her!" The sound

  • CHAPTER 208

Bethany sat in the car on a quiet road a few miles from the Bentley estate, her hands trembling as she clutched the steering wheel. She had driven here in desperation and Troy as well as Carter had flanked her from behind, but Logan’s guards had turned her away without even hearing her out. Tears welled down in her eyes as she thought about her daughter, alone and in danger. Her phone buzzed on the passenger seat, and she flinched, hesitating before picking it up. Rick’s message was short and brutal; “Time’s up. No freedom, no daughter.” ‘How did he have my phone number? Of course he is a notorious man. What's so special about my phone number that it would be too hard to get?’ She thought. Bethany began to sob, her body shaking as she tried to gather her thoughts. Logan wasn’t coming, he was too caught up in his own war to help her. How could she expect him to drop his own family obligations just so he could save a child who wasn't his, not to talk of one whom she had turn

Patricia stood in the doorway of his study wearing one of Logan’s button-up shirts, her arms folded across her chest. She looked at him with concern, but her voice was steady. “You’ve been up all night, what's up?” Logan turned, his expression softening when he saw her. “I had to plan.” Patricia stepped closer, her bare feet on the wooden floors, even though it was cold she didn't mind, she then uttered; “Planning is one thing and wearing yourself out right before a fight is another.” “I can’t afford to rest,” Logan replied, his voice firm but gentle. “Malcolm won’t stop until one of us is dead. I have to be ready.” Patricia reached out, taking his hand and said; “I know you feel like this is all on you, but it’s not. You have people who want to help you. Damon’s men, the loyal guards here, and… me.” Logan’s jaw tightened. “You’ve already helped enough, Patricia. More than I would ever ask for, B But now, you need to focus on yourself and the baby. • CHAPTER 206

Bentley's estate was quiet but tense. The events of the night replayed in his mind: the ambush at the cabin, Patricia’s revelation, and Damon Salvatore’s shadowy intervention. Everything pointed to one undeniable fact, that this wasn’t just survival anymore. It was war! A soft knock at the study door interrupted his thoughts. It opened slightly, and Patricia peeked in. Her face was calm, but her eyes betrayed her concern. “You should be resting,” Logan said, setting the glass down. She stepped in, closing the door behind her. “I can’t sleep, not with everything happening. Not with you down here, planning who-knows-what.” Logan stood, walking over to her. “Patricia, you need to trust me. I’ll handle Malcolm.” “And what happens if you don’t?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Logan, I’m scared. For you, for us, for this baby. Every time you walk into danger, I feel like I’m losing a part of you.” Logan gently took her hands, his eyes softening. “I know you’re scared, but

The woods were quiet except for the wind, but Logan’s mind raced as he paced the cabin’s living room. Patricia sat on the couch, her hands tightly gripping the edges, her face pale but determined. “We need to leave this place soon, Malcolm already knows where we are now. It’s only a matter of time before he sends more men to cause a scene or worse.” Patricia hesitated, then stood, her arms instinctively wrapping around herself protectively. “Logan, look here, running away won’t solve this. You know that as well as I do.” Logan turned to her, his expression softening but still firm. “This isn’t running, it's called a strategy. We regroup with our own men and plan our next move. Malcolm thinks I’ll be caught off guard simply because I am in the woods, but I won’t give him that satisfaction, hell no! They were the ones who started this, his father hated my father because of a grudge, he killed him and he paid with his life for it, so if this is what I have to deal with for spar

  • CHAPTER 204

The room was eerily silent after Logan’s departure, the reality or the fact that what had just transpired in front of him began to kick in. His father’s lifeless body laid on the floor, and his blood gushing out from his head beneath him. Malcolm dropped to his knees beside William, his hands trembling as he shook him. “Father, wake up!” His voice cracked, desperation could be seen. But despite all the tears and calling, William D’Cruz was gone, his now cold and blind eyes staring at the ceiling into nothingness. The shot was directed to his brain so no amount of surgery could bring him back to life. Malcolm’s breathing was no longer normal, it is more like he was hyperventilating as he clenched his fists. He felt his anger deep into his veins, boiling hotter than he thought possible. His entire world had just been shattered by Logan Bentley, his cousin, and right then and there as he knelt down beside his father's dead body, he vowed and swore to make sure, Logan pays wit

Damon nodded. “If you’re set on this path, Master Logan, then promise me one thing: don’t lose yourself entirely. Your father wouldn’t want his legacy to be remembered in blood.” Logan didn’t respond. He simply turned back to the desk and pulled out a drawer, retrieving a small, sleek pistol that had belonged to his father. He checked the chamber, the metallic click echoing in the silent room. “This isn’t about his legacy anymore,” Logan said quietly. “It’s about vengeance and making sure men like William and Malcolm never hurt anyone again.” **** Days later, seeing his father's remains that was completely unrecognisable, made Logan feel as though he had not done anything yet. He was supposed to be planning his father's burial but all he could think about was William's dead body being brought to the morgue as well. He couldn't just sit back and let his father be buried alone. What was his offence, being really good at everything and being his father's favorite? Well that was t

As Logan walked out of his room well dressed, he was no longer just Terrence Bentley's grieving son, oh that ship has long sailed he was a man on a mission, a storm brewing with the promise of destruction. The Bentley estate’s private garage housed a collection of cars, each a symbol of his father’s taste and success. Logan selected a sleek black SUV, its engine roaring to life like a growl from deep within his chest. He peeled out of the driveway, his destination clear: William D'Cruz's sprawling estate on the other side of town. Damon, who saw him driving away, immediately sent trusted men to shadow him. “Ready the men, make sure nothing happens Master Logan is that clear?” “Yes sir!!” They all ran off and began shadowing him, because his safety was their priory, should something happen to him, it could cost them their lives. As the city lights blurred past, Logan’s thoughts were filled with the memories of his father, his warm laugh, his stern yet encouraging words kept
