Jack seized the opportunity to mock Artis further, while he straightened his collar and shook out the wrinkles in the lapels of his coat.
He spoke with his tone completely serious, and his eyes red, flashing with anger;
"I am not the Jack Montgomery you used to know, Hardy! I am a successful executive at the Silver Canary Group, who can easily call the police here and report you for assault!
I have so many witnesses here, not that I need any of them to get you behind bars! Just my word is enough."
A sharp smirk appeared on the corners of his mouth as he said,
"Anyway, a few days in jail will remind you of your real place in this world, and it will also give me some sweet moments to spend with your wife-"
Before Jack could finish his statement, a commanding voice cut through the commotion.
"What is going on here?"
A figure approached, with an aura of authority that commanded immediate attention.
Jack's confident demeanor quickly faded on seeing the man who had just walked out of the lift, flanked by his two bodyguards.
Clad in a charcoal gray suit, his posture was tall and confident, and he had a distinguished appearance, with well-groomed silver hair.
With each step, his polished leather shoes made a distinct and purposeful click against the floor, echoing his determined stride.
Every detail of his appearance, from the precisely folded pocket square to the polished silver cufflinks, was perfect, with no margin for error.
His crisp white dress shirt and silk tie completed the look, and what stood out the most was the pocket watch chain he had pinned to his vest.
Even in this era of smartphones and smart watches, the chairman's preference for classic accessories reflected his affinity for tradition.
As he walked, the crowd of employees who had gathered there parted, as whispers and murmurs grew behind him.
The man stopped between Jack on one side and Artis on the other, his sharp eyes surveying the situation silently while Artis still struggled against the guards.
Jack felt a chill as he tried to regain his composure, realizing that he was facing none other than Samuel Holt, the chairman of Silver Canary Group.
After a few seconds, his voice echoed, shushing down all the other whispers;
"Have you all forgotten that this is a place of work, and not a street- fighting rink? What is the reason for this commotion during office hours, Mr Montgomery? Miss Emma?"
Emma snapped out of her daze on hearing her name. Clearly, she had not expected the chairman to appear on the first floor.
She hastily set down the phone that she had picked up on Jack's behest, to call the police. She lowered her gaze without saying anything; she was still unable to process what had just happened.
Crack!
The crisp sound echoed across the hall as Jack received an unexpected slap across his face, rendering him momentarily senseless.
Not because the slap was particularly forceful, but because it had caught him completely off guard!
His hand reached out to hold his cheek out of reflex while struggling to comprehend what was happening. But as he raised his head, he only saw the face of Samuel Holt in front of him, and he gathered that he was the one who had administered that slap.
"You really need to know your place, young man!"
Although he was still inquiring about the reason for the disturbance, Mr. Holt had overheard Jack's last words about sending someone to jail on false charges.
No matter if it was a senior official in his company or a sweeper, he couldn't tolerate bullying at all.
And just like that, before the speculations could come to an end, Samuel Holt had intervened in the dramatic situation, and he demanded next,
"Who was being thrown out just now?"
Jack, still recovering from the shock, pointed at Artis Hardy, who had been the one to summon Samuel Holt by his call.
Although he hadn't said a word, Samuel had guessed by the missed call that something might be wrong, and rushed downstairs after hearing that a fight had broken out.
Before he could explain further, Samuel Holt's stern voice shook everyone present there;
"Guards! How dare you manhandle my guest like this!
I shall be lodging a complaint at the Sentinel Security Agency, about your unprofessional demeanor. This is really disrespectful on part of our company!"
Samuel Holt continued to speak, and each word from his mouth managed to shake the people present there, to their core.
"Mr. Hardy is my guest here, as I had called him for a meeting at my personal office.
Please be assured, Mr. Hardy, that my doors are always open for you. I am flabbergasted that my staff has treated you like this and harassed you in this manner…"
While Mr. Holt continued to speak, Emma felt like the voice was reaching her from miles away. She was stunned, and as she watched the drama unfolding before her eyes, she almost could not believe whether this was fiction or reality.
The chairman of the company addressed the uncouth and unkempt man standing before them, whom she had initially dismissed as someone seeking charity.
In the end, she had no choice but to surrender to the fact that this man was, in fact, Artis Hardy, the very person Jack had been taunting.
The guards didn't take a second longer to release Artis as soon as Samuel Holt shifted his focus towards him.
Artis immediately stood on his own two feet, saying;
"Mr. Holt, I had indeed arrived here with the intention of meeting you, but nobody at your office took me seriously at all. Nobody even cooperated enough to make a single phone call to your office."
Mr. Holt immediately stepped forward and his eyes began to scan Artis for any injuries, as he said;
"Mr. Hardy, I sincerely apologize on behalf of the Silver Canary Group, and I assure you, strict action will be taken against anyone who misbehaved with you!
But first, please let me know if you have sustained any injuries? Should I call the medical team for a proper examination?"
"No, no, Mr. Holt, there is no need for that. I had just come here to play a prank on you, but the tables turned on my own head and the situation took such an unexpected and unpleasant turn."
He explained with a half-hearted smile, and the fact that he had tried to dismiss the entire thing as a prank instead of blaming them directly didn't go unnoticed by them.
Meanwhile, Jack felt a chill run down his spine as he broke out in a cold sweat. He had a bad feeling ever since the chairman had arrived on this floor.
And now, watching him show such genuine concern for Artis, the gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach intensified. This only meant one thing for him: trouble.
Had he really taken Artis Hardy too.
The way the boss expressed regret over the treatment Artis Hardy had received, and kept promising him to punish his culprits, was enough to set off the alarm bells in Jack Montgomery's head. He had already been slapped in front of the entire office and his subordinates, and now, would he have to endure more humiliation because of this scum named Hardy? Mirroring his thoughts and emotions, Emma, too, felt an overwhelming urge to escape the situation. She felt a growing sense of regret and despair as she realized the magnitude of the mistake she had made, making her legs tremble with fear as they threatened to collapse under her. So this man had really been telling the truth, and all she had to do was to make a simple phone call to confirm it! But she had been too arrogant to even entertain the thought for one second… And now, the dignified chairman, one of the wealthiest individuals in Lauderdale, was fussing over Artis Hardy like his own son, leaving both Jack and Emma stunned!
As he had expected, Scarlet's reaction to his news came in the form of hundreds of questions.But her questions were influenced by her anger and frustration, instead of being driven by her curiosity. She turned to face Artis with her brows sinking into a deep frown, and all of a sudden, the fine lines of worry on her forehead seemed to deepen as she opened her mouth to spit fire. "What the hell, Artis! Just when I managed to get some help for ourselves, you have brought your ego in the middle again!"She ranted with frustration, "Why can't you just admit that our financial conditions have changed? How can I ever make you understand that Eva needs to be our priority right now, I'm just so done with you!"She had misunderstood his words in the worst way, and she vented her anger without allowing Artis to interject."If your business hadn't been shut down or if we had any more savings or even a proper income, maybe your pride would have made some fucking sense! But we have nothing now,
Artis Hardy had been alarmed because of these men showing up out of nowhere, but became considerably more relaxed after knowing that they had been sent there by none other than Samuel Holt, his mentor.That meant that at least one worry had been taken off his shoulders. "Yes, Mr. Hardy!" The second man also chimed in,"If there are any… troublesome elements, you can let us know." His gaze shifted towards Dr. Max while pausing and mentioning this, indicating that they had been listening in to the conversation before entering and making their presence known. Sensing that Artis was a little hesitant to say anything here, one of them asked, "Mr. Hardy, can I have a moment to speak to you in private?" Artis nodded and the three of them left the room, leaving behind many questions regarding their identity and sudden appearance.But regardless of everything else, one thing was very clear: they were more than just friends or casual acquaintances.The respectful way in which they addressed
Ch-8After Scarlet demands her husband to apologize, Dr. Max wears a smirk on his smug face, awaiting the apology he believed would absolve him of his actions.After all, who could blame him when the man himself was willing to accept his fault for provoking him? Even if the Director was notified by someone, he had so many witnesses to testify Atris Hardy had indeed apologized to him in the end, proving that he was right all along. However, Artis hesitated even after clearly hearing the words out of Scarlet's mouth. He couldn't bring himself to apologize to this disgusting man and let him escape without being punished.On the other hand, Scarlet had turned around to face him, and as she saw the expressions on his face, her eyes widened with shock.After all, she had been married to him for so long, and was aware of the meaning behind his gestures. And if he was hesitating and lost in thought even after she had explicitly asked him to do something, then he must have a reason behind it.
At this moment, Artis decided to intervene;"Please don't insist, Dr. Philips, it's pointless. Even if Dr. Max manages to cobble together an apology, it won't do any good after the unforgettable amount of disrespect we have been tolerating- not just today, but throughout my daughter's stay here."Scarlet watched the tense exchange, feeling bewildered by the sudden turn of events. Where she had just been insisting that her husband apologize to the doctor to ensure fair treatment to her daughter, it was now the same Artis who was rejecting Dr. Max's apology!An apology that had been demanded by Dr. Philips himself- the Hospital Director! It was enough to blow her mind that Dr. Philips was someone whom they couldn't even imagine colliding with on accident, then the question of getting an appointment with him was a different question entirely.And to think that he was currently standing a few feet away from her, demanding an apology on behalf of her husband… this was enough to make her f
His smile deepened as Artis ran his hands through his hair, finally offering an explanation."You are right, Scarlet, that they were not friends of mine, or else, you would certainly have known them. Rather,they were just some individuals who owed me a favor. And the reason they had come here was to repay that very same debt."Scarlet was relieved to learn that they weren't closely associated with Artis, but there was another unsettling realization that made its way into the pit of her stomach. If today had established one thing, it was that despite their years of marriage, there were still aspects of her husband's life she didn't fully understand yet. Half distractedly, she placed her daughter in the wheelchair that a nurse had silently brought inside. They were finally going to take her for a walk outside. The hospital staff had notified them that the new treatment would be starting soon, and they had also said that it was important for her to feel some sense of normalcy. So, it
Artis walked away from the hospital parking lot, feeling troubled and frustrated by Scarlet's insistence on attending her parents' anniversary party. He had indeed planned on confronting them and getting them to not only acknowledge but also respect him as their son-in-law, but he didn't want to be rushed into it. Even though most people's attitudes towards him had changed overnight, he was still a little troubled. And just at that moment, his phone began to ring, and he saw the name of the receptionist at the store where he worked. "But-" Artis began to speak, before ending the call after saying, "I'll be there soon." It was no use saying anything to Martha, as she probably didn't want to deal with anything that wasn't her direct responsibility. But Artis' grip tightened around his phone, as he thought about the person who had made the threat. His boss, William Andres. Within twenty minutes, he was standing in front of the Riverside Market & Deli. As he barged into the boss'
That evening, Artis Hardy walked out from the headquarters of Texter Technologies after a round of negotiations, as the confirmed future owner of the company. The remaining formalities would be wrapped up within a week, and Mr. Holt had promised to handle them on his behalf. Just before he was about to head back, Samuel stopped him. "Mr. Hardy! I will have to bother you again, but we need to head back to my office, as you need to sign some crucial documents related to our business deal." Seeing that Artis was a little hesitant, he explained, "I would've brought them to you myself, but…" "No, Mr. Holt, I want to keep this a secret from my family. I will accompany you back," he agreed, understanding how important these documents were. __________ Artis returned to the hospital, only to find Scarlet waiting for him. As soon as he stepped in, she asked; "Artis! Where did you disappear to? Tell me honestly, what are you upto?" "What are you talking about, Scarlet, didn't you know I

Scarlet was still struggling to comprehend the situation as she returned to the room, and Artis could tell by the ashen look on her face that she had just received some major news.But before he could ask about it, they were interrupted unexpectedly due to a call on her phone. Her mom's sharp tone blared through the speakers as soon as she received the call;"Your dad is coming home tomorrow. And if you don't want the whole world to know what an ungrateful little weasel you are, you better come by around noon and sign the papers, the lawyers will be here too.""Mom, I won't –""No! I won't hear any of your excuses. Mark's health is already in bad condition, and I am telling you, Scarlet! If something happens to your dad just because you are being such a brat, I will never forgive you!"With this warning, Hena cut the call, shaking Scarlet from the core. Seeing that her mother's disapproval was not going to go away any time soon, Scarlet was forced to think of the only possible option
As soon as the bell rang, Artis opened the door, only to find a dejected Scarlet stepping into their home. The concern in his eyes didn't go unnoticed, and he immediately moved towards her."Hey, what happened?" Artis asked, his voice laced with genuine worry. "You look upset."Scarlet attempted to dismiss his concern with a forced smile. "It's just a work- related thing, nothing major."Artis, however, wasn't easily convinced. He could read Scarlet well, and her attempts to downplay the situation only heightened his curiosity."Come on, honey. You know you can tell me anything." Artis insisted, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "I hate seeing you like this."Despite Artis's caring nature, Scarlet remained guarded."No, I already told you. It's just some misunderstanding at work. I can handle it on my own."Artis's protective instincts started kicking in, as he made her sit on the couch. "Scarlet, we are a team. If something's bothering you, let me help."Scarlet, appreciating
As Artis and Scarlet embarked on the journey home after visiting her father at the hospital, the car became a witness to the intimate conversation between them. After holding herself back for the entire day, Scarlet's curiosity about the undisclosed wealth of her family bubbled to the surface, and she gently questioned him regarding his family dynamics. Artis could also understand that she had received quite a shock after coming to know this information, and he patiently tried to answer her questions without giving away too much at the same time. However, their conversation took a more serious turn as Scarlet expressed a concern which she had tried to suppress ever since he had told her about the reason for leaving his family."Artis, you said that you had left them because you didn't agree with a marriage that they had arranged for you. What if… what if they are still resentful because of that? What if we go and meet them, and your parents don't approve of me?"Leaning back in the
As Dr. Dave Cameron dropped the bombshell about the Berhans family's unethical practices, the gathered onlookers, once swayed by Chad's lies, were now enraged by the truth about the family's history of exploiting innocent people.Angry voices started to rise, condemning Chad for his involvement in these scandals and accusing him of being a manipulative liar. The crowd shifted its anger towards Chad;"He fooled us all with his fake tears and displays of generosity!""I can't believe we fell for his lies, he manipulated us all!""People like him who bully others and then act like victims are a disgrace to the community!"The collective resentment built up as the crowd vented its frustration, realizing the extent of Chad's betrayal."Fool me once, shame on you!""We trusted him and demanded justice for him, and in return, he betrayed us!""I feel so cheated! We won't let you get away with this!""Kick him out! We don't want him here anymore!""Let's make sure everyone knows the truth abo
In the middle of this drama, a reporter also happened to arrive on the scene, with his full camera crew, making people think that the media had also been alerted about this scene because of the involvement of the heir of such a high profile family. But little did everyone know that this reporter had been tipped off by Chad himself, even before he had confronted Artis and Scarlet. He was fully prepared for both possibilities: if Artis agreed to give a statement, then this reporter would immediately rush to the scene and take his interview ; and if he refused, then too, Chad would get the chance to exploit this drama for a sensational news story. The atmosphere became charged with anticipation as the reporter, armed with a microphone, waded through the crowd to confront Artis and Scarlet.The reporter, with a cunning glint in his eye, addressed them;"Artis Hardy and Scarlet Silverman, the alleged fraud couple! What do you have to say about these damning accusations? Is it true that
Artis and Scarlet stood in the hospital lobby as the sound of blames and accusations grew louder, while no one was ready to hear out their side of the story.On the contrary, the crowd's relentless beratings and insults only seemed to magnify with each passing moment."You call yourselves decent people? You're nothing but opportunistic leeches!""I doubt that all that success of the Silverman family is also built on lies, wasn't it? They really think everyone is a fool!""This poor guy deserves better friends than you two!""Look at them, acting innocent now. Just own up to your shameful acts!""These people are nothing but social climbers! They pretend to be friends with someone until they have squeezed the last drop of profit from them, and then forget about the ones who supported them!"Scarlet's eyes were filled with tears now, because her attempts to explain were being drowned out by the overwhelming chorus of disapproval, again and again. On the other hand, although Artis was v
Chad's apologetic monologue continued, his voice heavy with guilt and the regret evident in his tone;"Artis, man, I can totally understand why you didn't want to forgive me at the hotel. I mean, I have been a complete idiot and I didn't even realize it! I looked down on you because of your financial status, and I even had some really messed up thoughts about Scarlet regardless of the fact that you two are married."He gulped before continuing, "And once I found out that Mrs. Silverman wanted you to get divorced as soon as possible, my hopes literally skyrocketed, thinking that I was finally going to get my dream girl. And that's why, I was also saying all those things back at the hotel, to hopefully provoke you enough where you willingly signed the divorce papers. But I can see how stupid I was, and I admit, I was wrong on all counts."Artis, though maintaining a stoic facade, couldn't fully trust Chad's sudden change of heart. "It's always easy to spout flattering words, Chad. But
Scarlet, enduring the unexpected slap from her mother, felt a surge of humiliation and pain, which sent tears streaming down her face. Although her cheek was already wet due to tears; this time, her tears were not because of her rage– rather, they had appeared because of the deep emotional wounds inflicted by her mother.For a few minutes, she was unable to say anything, processing the shock of the slal. But on the other hand, Artis, witnessing Scarlet's vulnerability, could no longer stand by as a silent spectator. His protective instincts kicked into gear, and he finally broke his silence to confront Hena;"Are you in control of your senses or not?! How can you just slap her like this–""Shut up!" Hena glared at him, while seething in anger."She is my daughter, and I can do as I please! Dammit–""Excuse me! You have exploited her enough as it is. Now, she is my wife before she is your daughter, so behave appropriately, do you understand? You better control yourself in front of m
