CHAPTER 7 THREW OUT OF THE HOSPITAL

Artis Hardy had been alarmed because of these men showing up out of nowhere, but became considerably more relaxed after knowing that they had been sent there by none other than Samuel Holt, his mentor.

That meant that at least one worry had been taken off his shoulders. 

"Yes, Mr. Hardy!" The second man also chimed in,

"If there are any… troublesome elements, you can let us know." 

His gaze shifted towards Dr. Max while pausing and mentioning this, indicating that they had been listening in to the conversation before entering and making their presence known. 

Sensing that Artis was a little hesitant to say anything here, one of them asked, "Mr. Hardy, can I have a moment to speak to you in private?" 

Artis nodded and the three of them left the room, leaving behind many questions regarding their identity and sudden appearance.

But regardless of everything else, one thing was very clear: they were more than just friends or casual acquaintances.

The respectful way in which they addressed Artis and were too careful about every gesture of his, indicated that they might be bodyguards, or maybe even the associates of someone influential and powerful. 

Some of them had also taken note of them mentioning the name of a certain Mr. Holt, and were wondering if this was the same Mr. Holt that they were assuming, the chairman of Silver Canary Group! 

But once this question was answered, it raised another huge question; why would someone so rich and powerful have any ties with a mediocre and penniless man like Artis Hardy? 

Both Scarlet and Dr Max were taken aback by the young men's demeanor, so much so that they couldn't find the proper words for a long time.

And by the time they returned to their senses, Artis was already walking inside the room, with the two young men following him.

Without caring about who all were present there, she questioned him,

"Artis! Who are these… these people? And how do you know them? What are they here for?"

Artis remained silent for a few seconds before facing her and introducting his new acquaintances with a satisfied smile on his face.

"This is Caleb, and this is Wyatt, some friends of mine. And they aren't here to cause any trouble, so you all can please go ahead with your routine check- ups.

They will just be back in a few minutes, after fetching Director Philips."

There was not a single soul there who wasn't familiar with Director Philips, the Hospital Director. And on hearing his name, the atmosphere in the room suddenly fell into chaos. 

Although everyone's heart rates had just skyrocketed at the thought of the Hospital Director arriving there, Scarlet was the only one with the authority to question Artis.

She was at her wit's end with the mention of Director Philips' name, and asked,

"What! Are you serious, why do you need to call Director Philips to this room? Just tell me, what are you planning to do!"

In response, an enigmatic smile appeared on Artis' face as he looked at Scarlet with a spark in his eye.

"I promise I'll tell you everything later, Scarlet, just trust me and let me handle this matter on my own."

As a result of the completely unexpected events that had taken place one after the other, the only person who was feeling the most uneasy was Dr. Max Halpert.

Initially, he had dismissed the man's claims as delusions of grandeur; but after the appearance of these two young men, his discomfort was on a steady rise, as the probability of Artis Hardy speaking the truth was also increasing.

In fact, after hearing the name of Holt from their mouths, he had fallen into a pit of despair, because if he really knew Mr Holt so well, then maybe his statements about his wealth were also accurate!

And if that was the case, then he had probably offended someone with powerful connections! 

As such, he had no choice now but to make an effort to smooth things over by offering an apology, even if every fiber of his being had to be forced to say the words. 

"Mr… Mr. Hardy, I just wanted to make sure that you know, whatever I might have said earlier, it was just meant to be a joke. I hope we are clear on that, right?

But sti- still, if you felt like any of my words was objectionable, then I apologize sincerely-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, Artis scoffed;

"Hah! So you're really going to pretend like we're on casual terms with each other after you disrespected not only me, but my family as well!"

Dr. Max's gaze lowered at this remark, and he tried to open his mouth, only for Max to seize the chance to speak once again.

"And let me guess, this sudden change of heart isn't because of any true realization or regret, but simply because I have summoned the director here!"

He warned, "Don't think that you can try and escape the consequences of your actions just on the basis of this fake apology! I hope that as a doctor, you are smarter than that."

"Although it is still a shame for the entire medical community that a greedy man like you gets to call himself a doctor, even while being completely negligent in providing medical care - you know, the one thing that's literally your job! 

You will surely not be let off the hook lightly for medical malpractice, Dr. Max!" 

His threats were making the doctor's heart pound with fear and uncertainty. 

"Today it's me, but I can only imagine how many people suffer because of your selfish and disgusting outlook!"

These words made the interns and nurses think deeply about their oath to help everyone in need, and the room became completely silent. 

Artis was the only one whose voice was echoing inside, "And so, on behalf of all those people and my own daughter, I will surely report every single detail of your misconduct to Dr Philips, and hold you accountable. It's high time that someone taught you that your actions have consequences, because apparently, your parents conveniently forgot that!"

Dr. Max felt his mind getting overwhelmed by fear and anger, as he realized that he may have gravely underestimated Artis and the consequences of his actions.

Artis Hardy had rudely rejected the doctor's advances to make peace, and not only this, he had also threatened him repeatedly about the consequences he apparently deserved.

Dr. Max might have been subdued for this moment, but Scarlet still felt nervous, as if the roof was going to crumble on her head any moment from now.

Her eyes darted around nervously, as her panic started to rise with each passing moment. She was really disappointed in Artis' words and actions, she had never expected him to act so recklessly.

And her biggest fear was that if Artis provoked him too much, it might affect her daughter's treatment and maybe even put her life in danger. 

Not wanting to make the doctor angry, she requested, "Dr. Max, I hope you can understand that my husband doesn't mean any of those things."

She came forward and approached him, "Actually, he is just a little frustrated that we have been spending more and more money on Eva's treatment without any results."

Her heart was heavy as she spoke, "While I admit that it was wrong of him to take out his frustration on you, but please try and look at things from a sympathetic angle."

At this point, she didn't care about the hospital dispute; she just wanted to shield her daughter's treatment from her husband's foolishness.

She couldn't understand how he could be so concerned about his own reputation that he was willing to put their child at risk!

And this is what motivated her to say the words she said next. 

"Oh his behalf, I'll apologiz-"

But before she could finish, Dr. Max interrupted her with a flirtatious smile on his face.  

"Oh no, you did nothing wrong, so you don't need to apologize, Mrs. Hardy.

Actually, I truly can't comprehend how a smart and beautiful woman like you fell for a braggart like him," Dr. Max remarked with disdain, casting a critical gaze at Artis. 

And just when the tension in Scarlet's chest was about to dissipate a little, his next words made her choke on her own breath.

"But I'm afraid that the hospital security has already been alerted, and I don't know if even a written apology from Mr. Hardy will be able to halt the impending intervention of security management staff."

The meaning was clear- he wanted and apology, and not just this, he wanted Artis to grovel at his feet, knowing that he had significant leverage over him. 

Scarlet understood this very well, and that's why she swiftly turned her head, issuing an order to her husband while signaling with her eyes. 

"Mr. Hardy, apologize," she demanded.
