Five

The music, 'get busy' blaring from the speaker next to him and Lucas complaining about losing jobs he worked hard to get from him as a background did nothing to soothe him.

He poured the last drop of beer from the bottle before him into his cup and gulped it. He looked up at the ladies flaunting their behind and throwing themselves at men they believed could spend as much as they wanted on them, and they irked him the more.

"I came here to cool off and your complaint is doing nothing to help," Edgar snorted and Lucas frowned.

"Nothing can cool you off, so stop wasting our time. Let's get out of here and figure out the best way to disguise you properly even if you're under his nose."

"His nose?" Edgar scoffed. "His. Him. He. What the hell is his name? Do you know? Do I? Why the hell should I be scared of a man whose name I have no idea of?"

"The fact that you don't know anything about him should scare you the most. As humans, it is natural we get scared of what we don't know. It is sensible because what we don't know can turn out to be our worst enemies."

"It can also turn out to be nothing."

"But do you know? No. Then, is it not better to be protected from something harmless than to be unprotected from something that'll pose much harm in the end? As humans, we are scared of the unknown and that shows that we are intelligent beings. It is the smart thing to do."

"I don't want to do this. I'm tired of getting insulted and looked down upon by people who are no way near my league."

"Sorry, but that's the only way to protect you."

Edgar snatched another bottle from the table. With his teeth, he snatched its cover and poured out half of its contents into his cup. "You've been telling me how I should live my life for too long. It's time I began to plan my life myself."

"If you live too extravagantly, you might get into trouble. I just want to make sure whoever killed your family would be unable to guess who you are even if he meets you. I want you to take up a new identity until we find who killed your family and are after your life."

"Hiding is a cowardly act. I'm not trying it again."

"There's a difference between being a coward and knowing how to pick the battles you would fight."

Edgar rolled his eyes, and he stood up, ready to leave. He was at the club to feel much better, but apparently, he was feeling the opposite.

"How much for a night?" Edgar heard someone ask and frowned. The sentence was already becoming annoying. It was the 1 millionth time he would be hearing the sentence since the night began. He was more annoyed at the fact that he thought that being surrounded by horny freaks with deafening music in the background would make him feel any better.

"How much for a night?" He heard again. It was at this moment that he realized that the question was thrown at him.

He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Hey, how much for a night?" The lady who was asking the question drew closer. She looked pretty decent. At least, compared to the other ladies present. Edgar took a closer look at her. She was drunk and was obviously not in her right senses.

"How much for a night?" She asked again, this time holding onto his shirt.

"Would you get the hell out of my way? Who the hell do you think you are?"

"How much?"

Edgar pushed her to the ground and went back to his seat.

"You're back." Lucas had a mocking look on his face.

"Some whore is asking to pay me for a night. Would she dare ask such a question if-"

"If you were not interested, you should have just respectively said no. This is a club and that's just one of the things people do here. If you're interested in drinking and listening to music only, you can get drinks and an mp3 for yourself."

"You're always saying things to annoy me," Edgar pointed out, frowning. "You've never for once said things to make me feel any much better."

Lucas shrugged. He had a nonchalant look on his face. "You have the option of firing me if I annoy you that much."

Edgar glared at him. "You want me to fire you."

"No," Lucas smirked. "I was just showing you that you can't bring yourself to fire me. We both know my worth."

"Proud jerk," Edgar scoffed. The annoying part was that Lucas was right.

Edgar looked away from him. Perhaps, if he was out of sight, he would be less annoyed. Almost immediately, he saw two men trying to drag the drunk lady who asked him to spend the night with her for a fee away from the building.

Even in her drunken state, she was trying to get away from their grip but she couldn't and the people around paid no attention to her struggle.

"What's going on?" Lucas asked, seeing that Edgar had turned serious- too serious.

Not bothering to answer Lucas, Edgar sped across the room to where the lady and the men were. He dragged her forcefully from them.

The lady hugged Edgar immediately. "Please help me," She whispered weakly. Her energy was drained.

"What are you doing?" One of the men asked. His upper front teeth were missing. He had a crooked nose too. No doubt, these men were hardened criminals.

"Where are you taking her to?" Edgar asked.

"How is that your business?" The other man snorted. He walked closer to Edgar, towering over him, in a bid to intimidate him.

"She asked to spend a night with me, so it's my business. Why should you take away someone that I am to spend the night with?"

"Give it back?" He snarled, referring to the lady

"It?" Edgar scoffed. These men were animals.

The lady moved from his front to his back, holding tight to his clothes to hide herself from the view of the men before her and Edgar.

The men glanced at each other, then back at Edgar. Immediately, Edgar knew that they were about to wreck trouble.

He had two options, to beat these men up or to freeze everybody for some minutes and then take the lady they were trying to hurt somewhere far away.

The first option was fun, but reckless. He wasn't in the mood for recklessness.

Edgar chose the latter.
