Nine.

"News of you being Edna's boyfriend has spread like wildfire."

"Let me guess. It's a bad thing and I should find a way to stop it." Edgar's eyebrow pulled down.

"You're being on the news too much," Lucas complained.

"I'm not the only person who is always on the news, Lucas."

Lucas sighed. "I just want you to be extra careful. If anything happens to you, I would end up not doing what your Grandma expects me to do. I don't really care that much about you, but your grandma once saved my life. I owe her."

"That's your business not mine. I won't let you control my life so you can pay your debt," Edgar said hoarsely.

"I used to think you cared about your grandma too."

"I do. Why do you think I still listen to you? Why do you think I let those brats that are nowhere near my level call me a church rat?"

"Then don't let those insults go to waste. Finish what you've started."

Edgar scowled at him. "You made me start this. I didn't."

"The point is that you've started it already, so complete it."

"Lucas, I can't control how many times I appear on the news. If you have problems with how much I am in the news, then you should meet the reporters, not me. "

"You can't control what the reporters say but you can control how much you give them what to say. Live a low-key life and they won't have anything to say about you."

"Live a low-key life? You mean I should fold my hands while others do to me however they please."

"Yes. You should know that this won't last forever. When the time comes, everyone will know who you are and when they do, they will bow at your feet."

"What am I seeing in the news about my daughter having a fiance?" Meyer Jones, the father of Edna asked the frail, young lad before him.

Edna had a mental condition. One that made him worry whenever she left home. So, in order to be less worried, he hired the lad before him to always follow Edna.

Edna's condition was a secret. Only core members of the family knew about it and Meyer wanted it to remain so. This was the main reason he was not in a hurry to marry his daughter off and he knew his daughter was close to no member of the opposite gender.

Somehow, she was not very interested despite being the interest of more than half of the men in town and he was grateful for that. However, it was surprising to just find out from the news that his daughter was engaged.

The lad he employed began to tell him about the incident at the club that led to the meeting of his daughter and Edgar and how Edgar saved Edna's life.

"Who is this Edgar of a guy?"

"A nobody. He used to be the husband of that unfortunate business woman. The one whose business crashed in a day."

"I did not employ you to give me vague information," Meyer thundered.

"Patricia. Patricia is her name. She used to have a successful business. Few weeks ago, she lost everything. Then, she decided to marry someone richer and when she found someone rich to marry, she divorced Edgar. If you saw the news recently, you'd see that this Edgar guy tried to kidnap her child. Most people say he did so to get money from Patricia and her new husband, since she had pushed him away from her luxurious life to the streets."

Meyer thought to himself for a while without uttering a word. "We can't just jump into conclusions yet. Some things are not always like they seem. If he was how the news portrayed him to be, he would have tried to get some cash off Edna."

"So, what did you intend to do with him?"

As much as he did not want any man close to his daughter, Meyer knew his daughter had to get married. He needed grandchildren and she was his only child. Of course, she had to get married.

The problem was choosing a man who would be willing to leave with and to keep Edna's daughter a secret.

"This Edgar guy, he has a humble background, right?"

"That's in fact an overstatement. Edgar has no background."

Meyer said nothing again. He was deep in thought.

"I need someone I can regulate," Meyer finally said.

"What do you mean?"

"That I would make sure Edgar is truly my son-in-law."
