Chapter 9

Darwin and Varrick were looking at Leo, they were shocked to see that the boy was still cultivating mana like it was something he would do normally.

“This is pretty scary, how in the world was he able to break through the first seal and reach his dark blue mana core like this? This is something that needs to be studied.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he was emitting energy that only people who were strong warriors would have.

Darwin laughed when he saw what Leo was doing without even being aware. “I don't know about you but all I see is a warrior that is ready to dance with me, I want to see what he can do,” Darwin said looking at Varrick, he was ready to face Leo in the sparring match.

“You better be careful, for all we know, this boy doesn't even know his strength. There is something about his abilities that is still not settling right with me.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he didn't want his brother to lose his life all because of a foolish game he was going to be playing.

“Don't worry, I will see to it that he won't do anything that would hurt me.” Darwin had a devious smile on his face, “Besides, I want to know how strong Abigail’s boy is.”

Darwin covered his body in flames. He had planned to fight Leo in a normal form, but seeing the power and aura the boy was giving off, it was clear that if he made a mistake, then it would be the end of him.

Leo stopped cultivating the mana around him, and he then slowly opened his eyes. They were glowing bright, he was emitting an aura that would have been able to ward off some monsters if any were going after them.

“You look like a stud. Well, I would love to see what you can do. There is no way I would miss this for the world,” Darwin walked close to Leo, and he noticed the boy was quiet. “Leo, is there something wrong?”

Leo looked at his hands, he felt different, it was his first time feeling mana coming out of his body. “What is this feeling? It’s like my entire body is singing a song for me, I don't know what to say about it.” Leo was shocked that he had reached something that would mean he was no longer different from the others.

“You have reached your core, I would love to see what you can do with that strength of yours,” Darwin said as he walked in front of Leo. He stood there looking at him taking a position for the match. “Ready when you are, champ, don't make this boring for me,” Darwin said looking at Leo with fierce-looking eyes, showing he was ready for the match.

Leo, although he lacked the fighting experience, was ready to do something that he would call the fight of his life. It would be hard to even imagine that he was going to be fighting a master, it was going to mean the end of him if any slip up happened.

Leo took his stance, he looked at Darwin. “Ready Master.” He said, looking at Darwin. The two stood still for some moments before Darwin took the first step. He launched for Leo, closing the distance and trying to land a punch.

Leo blocked the punch, he looked at Darwin in the eye. He was filled with energy that he knew nothing of, he was not going to let it go to waste. Leo threw a punch, managing to graze Darwin, and Darwin was forced to jump back. He looked at Leo with a smirk on his face. Although it was only a graze, the punch had enough force to clear him.

‘The kid doesn't know his strength. If I should make any mistake, then he is going to kill me. I will need to make sure that there is no way he will be able to catch up to me at all.’ Darwin decided to make sure that he was going to just wear Leo down.

He launched once more at the boy but this time he was delivering barrages of blows. He was trying to see to it that nothing was going to be holding him down for Leo to get the upper hand again.

But strangely, Leo was able to adapt to it, he blocked out all the punches and even tried to fight back. He was hitting Darwin with fiercer and sharper blows that would kill a normal man. Both of them were lost in their fight, and it looked like they were trying to decide who the winner would be.

Darwin was not even thinking anymore, he had taken his Dark Blue Core state to make sure that he didn't hurt Leo. But then he began slipping into the red core slowly without even knowing. Leo was pushing him to the edge.

‘This boy doesn't have any fighting experience, he is only battling me with his instincts. Now I see clearly that Vallin was not one to joke with. It is now clear that all dragons have a default defense mechanism built up in their body to defend them.” Darwin was having a hard time even thinking about the fight. Leo was not giving him a chance to do so. He was enjoying the fight.

‘This energy, it is different from what I would normally feel. I don't know what this is, but I know it is somehow the best feeling I've had in my life!’ Leo managed to land a blow on Darwin and the punch sent Darwin way back to the edge of the dome.

Varrick was shocked to see that his brother had been hit that hard. He looked at Leo and he was shocked to see a smile on his face. ‘This boy, he is not going to be an ordinary warrior, is he?’

“That’s it! No more Mr Nice Guy!” Darwin jumped up, he tapped into his full red core. “Hey, Leo! You had better be ready for this!” Darwin said as he covered only his hands with fire. He charged for Leo, he wanted to end the sparring match with one blow.

Leo saw him coming and instinctively knew that he was not going to be backing down for anything like that. “Bring it on!” Leo said before charging for Darwin. Both of them were running at the same speed. They were about to land the same blow on each other, but there was a difference.

Leo’s blow would shatter Darwin if there was nothing done about it. He was not going to survive it that easily.

Just before the two could land their blows, Varrick stepped in, using a shield to stop them before they collided. The shock from their blow was so strong it shattered the dome Varrick had put on.

“Now isn't that enough, Darwin?” Varrick looked at his brother who was lost in the fight. Darwin didn't want to stop.

Darwin looked around to see that the dome was broken, and any more fighting would have destroyed things in the forest.

Darwin let out a defeated sigh, he looked at Leo. “Sorry Kiddo, we have to stop here for now. But at least you made some progress, you just broke through the first seal, and you even tapped into your Blue Mana Core, reaching the Dark Blue faster than I would have imagined.”

Leo was shocked to hear what Darwin said. He has no idea how he was able to do something like that. “What are you trying to say? I was able to break through and reach a high end of power.”

Both Varrick and Darwin were surprised that the boy didn't even notice he had broken through.

Darwin smiled at the boy's innocence, he knew that Leo was not going to be some pushover warrior. “You were able to stand against me in the base red core, I am impressed. It shows that you are going to be a formidable warrior in no time.”

Darwin’s words put a smile on Leo's face and the boy was filled with joy. He was no longer the boy who couldn't even tap into his core, he was going to be a strong warrior who would strike fear into the hearts of evil one day.

“I guess it’s best to say you have the basic training down. You can hold your ground against threats from "F" to "D" rank, and you don't even look like you have anything wrong with you.” Darwin was looking at Leo, he was not even sure that there was any reason why he would even need the basic training anymore.

“We will begin your sword lessons. I want to see how far you can go with all this.” Darwin had a smile on his face and his smile warmed Leo’s heart. It was clear that he was not a failure that needed to be watched.

Tears filled Leo’s eyes, he was having flashbacks of his life, knowing that this was the first time he had made a difference, and he was certainly not going to waste it.

“Hey come on now, warriors don't cry. What in the world is wrong with you?” Darwin looked at him with a smile on his face. He wanted to know what was making the boy cry like that.

“He is Abigail’s son for sure. They have the same emotional spectrum. They might be strong, but they do cry like babies.” Varrick smiled. The brothers were looking at Leo as he was still crying, but he had a smile on his face.

Leo looked at them with a smile on his face. He wiped the tears off his eyes. “Thank you, Master Darwin, I will make sure I make you proud.”
