Chapter 36

The shock was fleeting at best, as he regained his composure almost immediately. "Rhonda?" He called over his shoulders.

She grabbed her purse and hurried towards him. "Let's go." She linked her hands in his, as they walked away.

When they were safely outside, he gently pulled her hands away from his and turned to face her. "Are you okay?"

She forced a smile but gave up when she realized there was no point. "A bit shaky, but I'll live. Are you okay though? You were the one they came for."

"It's nothing."

"Elijah," Her hands touched his. His eyes came down to the spot she held.

"I know I'm not in a position to question anything in your life anymore. I just don't want you to feel like you're alone."

"Everything's fine Rhonda. You should get back home to your mother and sister."

"My sister is not home. My mum left for some meeting she's been raving about. It's called the exclusive meeting. Weird right?" She said, letting her hand drop.
