Chapter 4: Unconsciously flirting with Death

Charlie sat down crosslegged as he goes through the cultivation manual. He started by cultivating, using the normal energy pathways described in the military manual.

After familiarizing himself with the technique, Charlie switched to cultivating, using the death seeking manual'. 

"Ah! Ah!" Charlie felt pain all over his body, as strange energy coursed through his veins. The spiritual energy in the air gushed towards him, causing indescribable pains as they sipped through every tiny pores on his skin.

Few minutes later, in a one room apartment. A bloodied human laid sprawled on a yoga mat, unconscious and barely alive. His face and all parts of his exposed skin were covered in a mixture of blood and some sticky, black liquid. His clothes sticked to his body like glue, revealing the outline of his finely toned muscles and six packs abs.

30 minutes later, the body finally moved. He struggled to get up from the ground, before rushing to the bathroom while pinching his nose.

Yes, that's Charlie, the death seeker. He had passed out during cultivation.

After cleaning up the impurities secreted out of his body during breakthrough, Charlie opened the system panel to check his current level.

"Wow! I broke through six levels in a Day?"

"Hahaha!! I it's time to kill some beasts! But… what's the seeker's Points for?" Seeing the new addition to the system panel, Charlie asked.

[It is the currency used to exchange for things (techniques, manuals, weapons, pills…) in the system store. The system store would be unlocked when your seeker's Points reach 100.]

Charlie checked the system panel to confirm. He saw "The Seeker's Store" at the last edge of the panel. It was written in grey ink, with a large padlock sign over it.

He continued cultivating for two more days, before he received a memo from the military asking all personnel to gather at the barracks.

Upon reaching the barracks, he joined the over 2,000 other logistics personnel as the marched behind the almost 20,000 soldiers to the battlefield.

They marched non-stop till the next day. On the night of day 2, they all camped in the wilderness of Kampte to rest.

Charlie and the others were resting when they saw a middle-aged man walk out from a nearby bush. The man walked with unsteady footsteps as if he was high on drugs.

"Don't come to Starlink… it's a trap… " the middle-aged man was about to continue talking before they started hearing large howls of demonic beast coming from every part of the forest.

"I'm scared… I don't think an old man like me can survive the wilderness." One of the logistics personnel cried, as the howls gets louder.

Before long, the demonic beasts arrived. The small army of 3000 beasts were led by a 6 meters tall black ape.

The soldiers who were always alert sprung up to their feet to form the battle formation.

"Soldiers! Let's kill our way out of the encirclement! Protect the logistics teams with your lives!" The general gave the order before running up to fight with the Ape general.

"Beasts of the Kampte Wilderness!! Hear the voice of your commander! Charge!" To Charlie's surprise, the black ape who seemed like an unintelligent creature, spoke. 

This is the first time he'll be seeing a beast speak in the human language,Though he read it in some books that all purple ranked beasts have the ability to speak in human language.

The battle had officially begun, but it didn't take long for the general to notice that something was wrong. The beasts who would always fight without regards for their lives now retreats if injured.

"They're stalling for Time!" The General's eyes lit up. "Starlink city is in danger! Do everything possible to break out of the encirclement, even if it is to trade injuries with injuries!"

The general yelled out orders at the top of his lungs, but non of that is a concern to Charlie who was busy watching the battle from afar. 

"So, this uncircumcised idiot learnt how to talk human before learning to put on some clothes? Tsk! tsk! Tsk! Beasts would be beasts." Charlie thought aloud when he saw the ape's giant dick swings left and right like pendulum as he fought with the soldiers.

"At least wear some underwear before coming to battle, are you here to show us how fast your balls could swing between your thighs?" He added.

The black ape who was busy fighting the general suddenly stopped mid-fight, giving the scar-faced man an opportunity to slash at his arm, creating a deep wound.

The black ape didn't care about the wound or the opponent he was fighting with. His nor reddened eyes was focused on Charlie who was 80 meters away from him.

He suddenly let out a deep roar before running at full speed towards Charlie. The enraged beast didn't differentiate between friends and foes as it charged through the crowd. As long as you're in his way, you've become his enemy.

"They even brought a chicken to the battlefield? The demonic beasts are something else… even domestic animals were brought to the battlefield." Oblivious of the fact that a black ape was rushing to attack him at full speed, Charlie turned to face an old man shivering beside him. 

" Hey! Old man, what's there to be so scared of? A group of farm animals?" Charlie 'comforted' the old man. "It's something I can kill with a kitchen knife."

The system notification sounded in his ears, jolting him back to reality.

Charlie stared at the system notification in amazement.

'I didn't even move a finger, but I effortlessly pulled the aggro of more than three thousand demonic beasts?'

"Kill that bastard! I don't care if we can win this battle or not, but that bastard must die!" The black ape shouted, and pointed his finger at Charlie who was still far from where he was.

[Ding! You are now targeted by all demonic beasts on this battlefield, try your best to survive. You can only flirt with death when you're alive.] The system advised.

The army general tried every means to block the black ape, but he was easily overpowered by the berserk ape who doesn't care for his life.

The ape charged at full speed once again, as it rushed towards Charlie. But before he could reach him, a red eyed chicken had already started attacking Charlie.

Charlie was still busy checking the system notification when a hard kick landed on his chest. It felt as if he was hit by a fast-moving train.

Charlie was about to get from the ground when he felt a strong force landed on his chest. Blood trickled down the corners of his mouth as he winced in pain while trying to get up.

It was as if a giant mountain had landed on his chest. He couldn't move a bit, he struggled to open his blurry eyes, to see the giant talon that was placed on his chest.

He met with the glowing red eyes of the flame feathered chicken, glaring at him. The chicken wore a human-like expression on its face which can be interpreted as "who's the chicken now, dumbass!"
