Just like a phoenix rising out of the ashes of the unremarkable buildings close to it, Maryland High School stood magnificent and different from most buildings that Damien had seen so far. Not even the shopping center he had seen the other looked this magnificent. The land was so expanse that Damien couldn’t see its end from where he stood, openly gaping at the white-walled six-story building. Uniformed security men stood at attention at the entrance enclosed with a marble-walled fence and two giant, black wrought iron gates that opened up to the magnificent grounds of the school that had a uniquely designed driveway that veered to different sections in the school compound. After greeting the guards at the gate, who gave Damien a questioning look; Sky took the lane that led up to the main door of the school main door. Different cars were going in and out of the building, each of them dropping off impeccably dressed students. Some of them did not pay Damien any attention as they lif
Damien, who was inside the jock’s changing room was not visible to the guys in the corridor. Sky motioned for him to stay put before he turned to face the trio in the corridor. As usual, Ashton Benthall, the owner of the voice was in the lead followed by Zach and collins tedder, his two accompanying accessories. Sky mildly rolled his eyes when he saw the gaggle of girls and other admirers staring at and looking at them from a distance before he face Ashton with a nonchalant smile.“Oh that?” he said when the latter merely looked at him like royalty waiting for his minion to confess to his evil deed. “That was me complimenting you on the new kid in school”Zach snorted derisively “And what makes you think that we need your compliment on anyone?”Sky knew Zach to be the most impulsive of the Tedder cousins, hot-tempered too and always the one talking first. Pity that the idiot talked most times without thinking and was a staunch loyalist of Ashton. Sky hated the twerp because of the wa
“My goodness! You are looking like a mess!” A.O. Sylvestro, the principal of Maryland High School said when Damien entered her office.Sky winced at the principal’s high-pitched voice and he looked back at Damien as if just seeing him as he thought of how Damien must look to a woman who was used to only seeing her students at their very best. After all, students of Maryland High school were known to have at least about one uniform for each day of school and some of them couldn’t be caught dead in a rumpled school uniform not to talk of a stained one like that of Damien at the moment.Sky hated the fact that Michael had a rule set in place for all of them that forbade them from what he called unnecessary advantage because he would have loved nothing more at the moment than to wring Mr Dax's neck. The man had vented his anger on them after the powerful trio left. After yelling at Sky to get going, the man refused to leave until he saw Sky left so Sky had no choice but to tell him that h
The ensuing events of the day did nothing to dim the excitement inside Damien at finally being in “high” school. The high school had been nothing like what he had imagined and he was happy that he could finally make it. Damien was more grateful to Leah at that moment than he had been originally when she felt promised him that he would be able to attend. When Cade thought he was ridiculing Damien, all Damien could think about was how much more people he was going to see and get to mingle with. He had checked on his phone in the past few days to know what to expect. He knew that he would at least get to be part of a community bigger than the few workers he had come across at the Macmillans.Even though the Macmillans have a lot of workers on their cotton plantation and many working in the gardens, Damien only sees most of them as they come and leave and they snubbed him most of the time. Even the workers staying in the staff house seemed to have collectively decided to ostracize him.
“Damien, ma” Damien quickly corrected himself when he heard the woman’s statement and Sky gave him a wide-eyed look with a hushed “Dude, what are you doing?”“I am sorry, ma,” he said to the woman, who was giving him an askance look “That was a mistake. I am Damien ma, Damien Kostos” he repeated.Principal Sylvestro finally looked away from him as she looked down at a file she picked atop some others n the left side of the table.“Oh year, Damien Kostos, I have you here. Your recommendation from the King came as a surprise because I have not heard of any Kostos here in Santa Eyre. Wh…”“He is from Afghanistan, ma. He and his family live there. Ah, I…yes” Sky completed when principal Sylvestro turned a displeased look on him.“I am sure I wasn’t talking to you, Androne. Was I?” she asked in a snappy tone.“No, ma I….”“What are you doing here by the way? Shouldn’t you be in class right now?”“We are in the same class ma,” Sky replied as if that was a perfect explanation.“And?” Princip
Damien conveniently looked away from Ashton's glare as he made his way to the seat that Sky pointed at. Zach suddenly threw his leg out to trip Damien and even though his fast reflex saved him from falling over, his stagger earned him a few snickers from the student as Zach raised an eyebrow at him as if daring him to talk when Mr Silas asked the student to quiet before looking over at Damien who was still standing as he asked "What is delaying you? Take your seat" "I am sorry, sir," Damien said as he took the seat, ignoring Zach's silent taunt. "Just ignore them" Sky mouthed him before turning to face the teacher. Damien felt eyes on him as he tried not to look around in fascination or curiosity as he could sense different emotions from the stares he fell on him. Some are that of derision and disbelief. Some that of interest and malicious anticipation. Some indifferent. Then one... he could feel a different vibration and energy from somewhere to his right and he wondered what it me
Damien showed the note to Sky immediately after Mr Silas left the class and the latter only whistled with a grin."Well, look at you being famous already," The younger vampire said with a light thump on Damien's shoulder "At least it took me a while to get popular with them. I was the ostracized kid before their highnesses felt I was worthy enough to talk to"He looked behind Damien suddenly as he said in a serious tone "Don't think much of this and I think you are about to have more of that" he stated.Damien could already feel someone's intent approach behind him and he turned around just in time to face her. The redhead girl."What is a weirdo like you doing here?" she said with her voice raised. "Are you still stalking me?" There she goes again with that word. Damien thought and he was about to set her straight on that account when Zach stood up from his chair so fast that it almost toppled over."You dare to stalk her? What made you think you are for to even look at her?" he sho
“Let’s go” Sky whispered to Damien immediately after the school bell rang after the last class.Damien, who found his eyes kept going over to the brunette girl was startled as he looked back at Sky. The serious look on Sky’s face alerted him to the fact that something was not right, then he remembered the students that went out of the class and that thing some of their classmates said about “All-Hands”“You still haven’t told me what those boys meant by…”“No time. Let’s go” Sky said as he glared at some of the students that were about to come over to Damien’s side as they pointed their fingers at him and laughed. Damien quickly put his book in his bag and smiled to himself as he remembered how difficult it had been for him to write down their strange letters. He was determined to get it right though and he wished that he would have some time to himself when he get back to the Macmillan’s for him to start practising. “Probably in the evening,” he thought to himself as he turned to Sk
