Chapter 6

At night when Nova was asleep Luther took out the file that he hid from her then started going through it, to his amusement, the companies which were enlisted were all the names of big companies, few of which were familiar to him, and many more in other states, and countries he had never visited.

Some were names rumored to be owned by men who were rich since the beginning of time. They made the cover of Forbes magazine each year , and those names were mentioned in these files, and how these men happened to be in some kind of brotherhood with his alleged father and some investors among them too.

It was just too much for Luther to handle; he had no idea if he was going to be happy or sad with so much power and authority, he felt too inferior as all these came with so much responsibility, one he couldn’t toss away with ease.

It took him the whole night to navigate the ton of money under his name but he finally did and later went to bed with the aim of visiting the companies in the morning, as a meeting was meant to be held as requested.

The next day Luther was finely dressed in his work clothes, he was anxious and overall unprepared for the task at hand, but he had no choice than to attend the meeting, and also leave the house in order to convince his wife that he had not just lost his job.

“Good morning baby, you look happy today” Nova said as she straightened his suit. She knew Luther to be grumpy whenever he was dressed to go to work, but now he was in a hurry and flushed as well.

“Nothing? Just excited to work” he lied, but nova bought it, when she was finally done with Luther, she went back to the chair to continue her embroidery when a thought crossed her mind, she had been wanting to tell him about her new idea before it was too late.

Before Luther came into her life she was socially vast, she had tried looking for a job after her marriage but the rumors in the internet stigmatized her so much that she chose to survive solely on Luther’s weekly or monthly income.

“Luther, I want to start working,” she said.

She walked towards him and held his hands, “ I want to do this regardless of whatever anyone says, not even my family. I am proud to have you as my husband, but I studied in Harvard, I have good grades and I know I can help you” she stated, then kissed Luther,

He didn’t turn her down, instead he reassured her with a warm grin and a slight peck on her cheek.

“As long as it makes you happy”

An outburst of happiness overwhelmed her, she never thought her proposal could be easily digested by her husband.

“Are you sure!, you can’t take your words back this time”.

“Yes, you can start working but we will have to decide which company you would work for” Nova agreed to the terms before Luther walked out of the house and headed towards the path Matthew had picked for their meetup.

Luther had his mind elsewhere all throughout the ride, he would only think of the negative outcome. The thoughts of making the first real impression took him through an oblivious path In his thought, that he didn’t realize where he was until the cab driver shoved him.

“Hey!, snap out of it”

He stepped out of the cab, then enthusiastically walked over to Matthew, he would finally be visiting the members of the board, and meeting the biggest shareholders of the companies.

There was a particular name that had him holding his breath every now and then, he spent most of his time researching his lineage and back story.

And his name was ‘Malin Koa’ . A military general, and a multi-billionaire.

“Is that what you are wearing?” Mattew stared down at him, displeased by the looks of the young master, his suit looked faded, his shoes and his wrist watch were despairing.

Luther traced his line of sight to his outfit, and a cripple sense of embarrassment clung to his mind, his attire couldn’t be compared to what Mattew wore, it was obvious he was like a servant, with no status.

“Is it that bad? can’t it be used for a meeting?, besides this is the most expensive and good looking suit I have” he uttered in his defense. It was the only suit in his closet and even if it wasn’t good looking he had no options.

“Never mind we are already minutes late and I would want you to make a lasting impression before the other clan members”

Luther was reluctant at first, but he had no other option so he followed Matthew and both of them drove to the company. On arrival Luther regretted the decision he made.

Everyone in the corporate house was steeply dressed, the workers around the building were elegant and he felt too inferior to be in their midst, he immediately reconsidered his words.

“Should I go back now and reschedule?”

“I wouldn’t suggest that, these men don't care about how you are dressed, they are just eager to see the new leader” , his word of reassurance drove Luther to insanity because he knew the men he would be meeting are not ordinary men, they were men in high caliber, and his first approach mattered a lot, but it was too late now.

They proceeded to the foyer and then into an office where the shareholders were seated. From the sight of all six of them seated in the office, Luther's heart began to beat in a pitapat manner, his knees grew weaker and he felt hopeless.

For a moment everything in the room had no sound but his heart beat.

“You didn’t tell me you hired a new assistant Mattew” General Malin Koa, said to Mattew when he saw luther walk into the office, the timid look of his face had already sold him off before the other investors who were seated on the table, and it made everyone curious why a man like him would be in their midst.

“What is your name?” Malin said in sheer amusement.

“Luther_Luther Cruz” Luther said shakenly, he was still smitten by the aura in the room that he lost the courtesy to speak freely, even when he was in the same caliber as them now.

“Cruz?, the heir of the Cruz family?”

“Yes, I am Luther Cruz” Luther straightened his suit then stared at all the men seated on the chair, and by his left was a seat reserved at the top for him, knowing fully well that it was meant for him, he took his seat, while Matthew stood by his side.

“I am malin Koa” the General stretched his hands to Luther then they shook.

“Bruce Apollo” another said, Luther had read about him earlier, and was stunned by how much power he had.

“Clark Dominic, it’s nice meeting you” said the richest telecommunications owner in Detroit.

He knew the men seated around the table could do anything and get away with it, that was how much power they wielded, it was an honor being by their side.

“Nice meeting you” Luther muttered.

“Eric Constantine” A wealthy politician and business owner.

“Evan homer” the biggest sea port owner.

And lastly, was a man as young as him seated at the end of the table, a man known to all for his generational wealth, and a family of royalties.

“Peter Orlando,” the man said with a mischievous grin on his lips.

“You are welcome to the brotherhood”
