Chapter 5

Luther knew he would do anything to keep her by his side, and make her leave the life her parents swore he wouldn’t be able afford, same goes for everything he was ever ridiculed for in life, and when Nova went inside to prepare dinner for both of them, Luther took the liberty to call the number Mattew had given him earlier.

‘Tell me everything there is to know about my father's wealth’ Luther said.

And Mattew invited him, he volunteered to pick him up but Luther disagreed, he knew Nova would notice any oddness around him, and now that he wasn’t sure he was dreaming he didn’t want to risk telling her anything, so he went away to the street after taking excuses from Nova.

Mattew picked him up and they went to the bar, ordered a few drinks before he started speaking.

“Your father is Vicenzo crux, an infamous Trillionaire, and a businessman. In the Cruz family, wealth was never meant to leave the family name and that was why he had to let you go, he could never marry your mother nor could he show you to his family, you would be dead in seconds.”

Luther thought about everything, he referred the explanation to the family of his wife. No one wants to have anything to do with the poor.

“I would tell you not to blame your mother, if she hadn’t done what she did? You wouldn’t survive till this day” he said.

Luther tried to process everything that was said, and speaking about Vicenzo Cruz, he never really heard of his surname elsewhere which justified the fact that his so-called father was a hidden billionaire.

“I know its hard for you to take, but know that the weight of the family heirloom relies on you now, the family business needs an heir, the clan is waiting for you, and you are the only bloodline” Luther smirked sarcastically, few hours ago he was ridiculed and beaten to a pulp, now he was indeed the owner of a trillion dollars worth title.

Mattew knew how hard it was to believe so he brought out a card, and a file “ here’s a list of companies, names and lands owned by your father Vicenzo, and now you own it, I will be your lawyer, to put you through whatever you need to know, and if you would like to reside in the family home I can rearrange it; if it’s too archaic for you”

Luther still stared in dismay.

“Here’s one of your father's cards, containing a few percent of his money, and here are some other names I would love you to go through then and get back to me.”

Luther opened the file and closed it back immediately, he took a look at the platinum card, then shoved it in his pocket, at this point in time he really wished it was real, because if it wasn’t then he would be broken to a whole new level as he was staring at the proof that luck was on his side now.

“Let me drop you off”

“No” Luther rebuffed the idea immediately, he wanted this part of his life to be off the radar as it was too early to be spotted with a million dollars worth car dropping him the second time, soon people will start talking and everyone would have a story to share on the reasons why he suddenly came from a rich family.

“If you have any money on you, no matter how little it is, please can you help me, I need to take the bus home” he said to Mattew who was now staring at him totally bewildered by the young man.

“But master, your card is worth billions of dollars,” he said.

Luther wasn’t used to hearing such a figure so he ignored him, with his hands still stretched Mattew placed a hundred dollar bill in his hands then bowed and left, Leaving Luther in front of a bar, totally dumbfounded.

He had no Job, no source of income and somehow he was holding a file filled with names of mighty men, whom he wasn’t worthy enough to breathe in their presence. And a card worth millions,so he chose to check it out.

Taking a cab he wanted to check the amount of money in this card, if it was really worth the amount he was told so he stopped at a nearby ATM and typed in the pin he was told, and to his surprise he saw digits that he had never seen in his life.

Which made him freeze at a spot, he wanted to try even further so he withdrew three thousand dollars for a start, and in mere seconds the money came out,

Luther stood fixed just staring at the cash at the bar of the machine, he was really rich!.

He was excited and wanted to tell someone but there was no other person in his life who would pay any attention to him other than his wife who now happened to be the only person he loved.

He had to make a decision to tell her or just keep it to himself, but if he told her she wouldn't want to stay hidden like he solely wanted to.

And then he won’t get the chance to exert his revenge on everyone who had belittled him. He took the money and tucked it into his pocket then went back home, with a wine bottle and a cheerful heart.

As he got home he saw his landlord, standing at the door with his bags outside his house, and his wife on her knees, begging.

He had forgotten his rent was due, and was supposed to pay with his wage, but like every other day in his life, it was filled with misery and hardship.

As he walked closer, he was spotted by the man.

“You poor bastard I had told you, I won’t spare you this time, take your things and leave”

He pushed Nova aside as he walked towards Luther.

“You promised today, do you have it?; if you don’t, then don’t bother begging me, just take your things and leave”

Luther sighed in embarrassment, his life was really bad.

“I have your money now” Luther said he shoved his hands into his pocket, he was lucky he withdrew some cash from the bank, else he would be torn down to nothing and would be on the street.

“I need my money in full, I don't need your stupid Pennie’s anymore” Luther brought out three thousand dollars from his pocket then handed two thousand to the landlord.

The money left nova and Peter in a haze, because it wasn’t expected, but before Luther would take it back, Peter shoved it in his pocket.

“That’s for an extra two month ahead” Luther said, then took his bag and started taking them inside,

Peter, still starstruck, rolled his eyes and flung his finger to the carpenter who he had assigned to tear down the door; he followed him out of the premises while Nova went straight to Luther, with tears in her eyes, she pulled him in for a hug.

She was crying profusely once more,

“ I thought we would be homeless today, he messed with my mind, thank goodness you came”

“Yes, today might be our Lucky day, I got a raise today”

“That’s good, it is about time they see what I see in you”

Luther’s heart clenched in pain as he lied to her, but he assured himself that he would tell her everything she needed to know about his life when the time was right and she would also be out of danger.

He knew what wealthy people did to the poor, devoured them and cast them away, just like they had done when he was little. So he wanted to keep her out of trouble
