Like a dream, Luther urged himself to wake up, but it was just too real, the word ‘Master’ baffled him and left him standstill.
Throughout his lifetime he had heard other names that were not pleasant to the heart, but this particular name he was referred to gave him chills. He wanted to tell the macho men that they got the wrong person, but he remained mute instead, and bowed his head so they didn't tell how scared he was. If somehow they found out that he was the wrong person, he was prepared for another round of embarrassment. The men walked towards the building, it was bigger than any residential house he had ever seen, not even that of his in-laws, and the weirdest part was where it was located. As the men began to walk towards the building, he just followed them till they were inside this glamorous gold like castle. Amused by the sight, words couldn’t explain what it felt like to be inside such a place. Gradually, he was led into a room in this castle. The walls were golden and the bed was lush and luxurious. He felt goosebumps being there. He instantly felt unworthy of so much luxury. “Where am I?” He asked the man who led him into the room. “This is your room, master, you will get treated by the home nurse while you settle, your mother will be coming to see you soon” he said then left Luther in the room. Luther took the liberty to look around, his eyes met so many glamorous designs but the moment he sighted a portrait, he felt ripples of heat take charge in his body. It was a picture of a man who looked so much like him. At first he had assumed his portrait was hung on the wall, till he noticed the age difference, the major difference was the hair and the eyes, and just looking at it, Luther was left in a state of delima. He had never seen this man, but it looked so much like him. “Luther '' A familiar voice said from behind, his mothers voice brought about a wave of nostalgia, it made him sad and angry to see her again. Her face was like he remembered though she looked older now. With tears in her eyes, she managed to smile at him, but his dislike for her superseded any emotion. He remembered how badly she treated him as a child, she was all he had at a certain point in his life, and one day she could not take the pain anymore, she left him for days in an uncompleted building to fend for himself until he was carried to an orphanage home. Just to be standing before him twenty two years, “Luther my baby” she walked towards him as tears trickled down her eyes. Luther moved backward, with his hand positioned towards her. “Don’t come any closer” “I didn’t mean to leave you. I know you hate me sweetheart, but you must come to understand that I couldn’t take care of you” the pitch of her voice decreased as she went on her knees. Luther looked away immediately, hate and anger intertwined with his reasoning, which pushed every other occurrence aside. “That wasn’t enough reasons to plague my entire existence, I have a wife to go back to, so tell me why I am here” his tone was abrupt. “I never stopped watching over you, and I knew you will hate me that’s why I didn’t come any close but Luther my dear, please don’t hold it against me, I am back now and I am not going anywhere, I want to make it up to you” “Go straight to the point” he stared directly at her now. She wasn’t looking bad compared to him, he had thought she had died but instead she looked flawless, her hands were covered in gold rings and her clothes looked regal, while on his side, he was dressed in rags, a scarred face and a broken heart. It’s been twenty years, and she had exceeded what he used to remember about her, and it made his heart clench even more. “This is your fathers house, your real father and before you say anything, just know he didn’t accept me when I told him about you, not until now” her shallow explanation had Luther in a haze of confusion, so all along, he belonged to a man this wealthy and he was made to leave a shitty life?. His feet fell to the floor, as realization struck him, it was barely past the twenty four hours in a day but he had felt so many emotions. So many memories crossed through his mind, from his childhood to his current stage, all he had known was tough love and pain, and somewhere out there, was his father who would have taken him out of this mess but he didn’t. “Luther” his mother ran towards him. “Don’t come any closer, just stay where you are, I can hear you from over here” he stated, and she stood her ground. “You are the sole heir of the Cruz family, your father personally wanted you to know he was foolish for not looking for you” “How about you, you left me too didn’t you?” “But Luther…” “I don’t need your explanation, I need to go back home.” “Don’t; wait you need treatment” she urged but Luther walked past her, nothing made sense to him, and he didn’t want to wait to hear more draining information about his life. What were they going to tell him now? That he owned all this and a trillion dollars?. “Master!” Mattew walked towards him and so did his mother. The moment he held Luther’s hands, he handed him a card. “ Call me.” Luther wanted to reject it but instead he took it then walked out of the building, he had no means of going back home so Mattew took him towards the direction he demanded he would be dropped, and being Late Mister Cruz personally accountants and family lawyer he tried telling Luther all that he owned and why he owned it, but Luther continuously dismissed him. As Luther got home nova saw him with a swollen lips and very bruised face, “what happened to you?” she said ruffling through his body, in panic. Where could he start from? Was it when he was smashed on the face by her brother and betrothed lover? Or the fact that he might as well be the richest man she would ever know. “Nothing” he replied then took his seat in the living room. “Did you get into a fight, you need to get treated” She ran into the room and brought out their aid box with bandages and spirits to clean his wound. While at this Luther could only think about all that had happened that day, what if it was true and somehow he owned a trillion dollars, what will he do with it, he only ever had two issues at hand, and it was taking care of his family and proving to his in laws that he was honorable and a victim of circumstance. After Nova was done, she laid beside him, still sober, her eyes were still wet, maybe she was regretting being with him but didn’t want to tell him, he wouldn’t judge her, knowing she was the best thing that happened to a man like him. “So do you want to go back home?” Nova looked at him, then waved her head, “ My home is with you. ”Luther knew he would do anything to keep her by his side, and make her leave the life her parents swore he wouldn’t be able afford, same goes for everything he was ever ridiculed for in life, and when Nova went inside to prepare dinner for both of them, Luther took the liberty to call the number Mattew had given him earlier. ‘Tell me everything there is to know about my father's wealth’ Luther said. And Mattew invited him, he volunteered to pick him up but Luther disagreed, he knew Nova would notice any oddness around him, and now that he wasn’t sure he was dreaming he didn’t want to risk telling her anything, so he went away to the street after taking excuses from Nova. Mattew picked him up and they went to the bar, ordered a few drinks before he started speaking. “Your father is Vicenzo crux, an infamous Trillionaire, and a businessman. In the Cruz family, wealth was never meant to leave the family name and that was why he had to let you go, he could never marry your mother n
At night when Nova was asleep Luther took out the file that he hid from her then started going through it, to his amusement, the companies which were enlisted were all the names of big companies, few of which were familiar to him, and many more in other states, and countries he had never visited. Some were names rumored to be owned by men who were rich since the beginning of time. They made the cover of Forbes magazine each year , and those names were mentioned in these files, and how these men happened to be in some kind of brotherhood with his alleged father and some investors among them too. It was just too much for Luther to handle; he had no idea if he was going to be happy or sad with so much power and authority, he felt too inferior as all these came with so much responsibility, one he couldn’t toss away with ease. It took him the whole night to navigate the ton of money under his name but he finally did and later went to bed with the aim of visiting the companies in the m
Luther sat down with pride, at the end of the meeting, he had just spoken with people he had never dreamt of talking with, now leaving the table he felt like a whole new person. “We are meant to see your mother after this, she wants to see you” Mattew said, which instantly changed Luther’s mood, he never wanted to speak about his mother but it seemed she was the sole reason why all this came into play so the least he could do was see her. “Where?” “A cafe not far from here” he said, Luther agreed to see her, then he took the the chances and they drove to the cafe where the mother was seated, “ oh Luther dear” she wrapped her hands around him but Luther resisted, he saw her affection as bland, she should have been there for him earlier rather than coming back When the damage has been done. “It’s so good seeing you again” she voiced, Luther only nodded and took the seat before him, his mother noticed his nonchalant attitude and felt bad but wasn’t ready to give up, with a snap of her
On getting to the house. It wasn’t what any of them were expecting, Nova wasn’t a fan of parties, she had made it clear to her family and they were fully aware of her distaste in such glamor. The Waylen’s mansion was bubbling with lights and songs, there were a lot of people drinking outside, a lot of people that she didn’t know. “Luther dear, let’s go back, I don't think I want to do this anymore” Nova said, totally unprepared to face the scenery. “But we are here already?Maybe we should say hi to them before leaving, what do you think!” Her Adam’s apple bobbled up and down as she stared at everyone in disdain, she had social anxiety, she hates loud noises and she could already smell the panic attack lurking at the Corner. With a slight nod she replied. “We won’t waste much time” She didn’t want to say anything further, both of them walking hand in hand moved towards the main building when Nova's brother sighted them, from the bosom of his colleagues. A frown sat on his
When Nova went to sleep, Luther took his phone then dialed Matthew’s number, it rang numerous times before he answered, Luther was short tempered at the moment, the last thing he wanted was to be delayed. The moment his phone call was answered he said.“Do I have any schedule tomorrow?”“No sir, just the family meeting which is compulsory”“Fine, Meet me at our usual stop first thing in the morning, I want us to discuss something very important, and also if it’s Within your reach, I need all the information you can get on the Waylen family”“Oh sir, is there any specific reason, the Waylen’s family have their peaks and flaws, It would be easier if you could indicate”“I need to know their weakness and strength”“Sure, you got it” The call ended, Luther couldn’t get an ounce of sleep, he could not get the vengeful thought out of his mind, he stared at his wife as she slept peacefully. His eyes darted around her, she was thinner than he remembered, her glass skin now had visible pores
While Luther faced his relatives, Nova was faced with a bunch of aspiring employees, she was nervous and could only think of the negative outcome. Her eyes scanned the room nervously, everyone in the room was nicely dressed compared to her, all of them were mostly known by everyone, they were famous people with high caliber like her, but the way they stared at her, she knew they were talking ill of her, and mostly irritated that she was in their midst. Though she was born in a wealthy family like all of them, her status in society was nothing but a ridicule at the moment, people stared at her as though she was a caricature and they made obvious comments to her.Nova shrunk on her seat, decapitated limb by limb by their stigmatizing glare, she has heard Luther’s name one too many times to confuse their gossipy to be another person. It has been a long time since she was out in public, she could only wonder what Luther went through everyday when he went out for work, she contemplated gi
Luther took the ring from the box, then slid his finger into it, he readjusted it slightly as he tried to get used to wearing real black gold on his hands for the first time in his life, he was certain it cost them so much, and he felt so good seeing it on his hands. His eyes scanned the room in gratification when he saw the ring in their hands respectively.“Good ,it might be a while to explain everything here, but it would be better if you would leave your current place and come stay in the family house,” she said. Luther thought about it again, his eyes scanned the big building and he imagined him and his wife living inside. He never thought of having children for the past few years all because he could not phantom what having his children leave the dumb he called a house, or partaking in his miserable lifestyle. He took in the luxury around him once more, he wondered what nova would say about it when she comes to find out that he is wealthy. “I will think about it, but for now,
“Believe me this won’t end well for your brand and that's a promise” Matthew stormed out of the building, angered by their act, they ran after him, pleading that he reconsidered his threat but he entered the car, then tapped on the chauffeur's seat.“Move”“What did you do there?”luther asked mattew.“I should ask you that question, I am considering you make your status known to make this insult lesser, but while at that I would be shutting them down today, if that’s what you want” Luther thought about it, they weren’t the first set of people to ridicule him on that very day, he was going to have to tolerate them for a while, until he made his appearance in public.“There’s no need tearing them apart,” “They don’t have business ethics, this is your world Luther, you have to punish the offenders, make them see reasons why you should not be crossed” Matthew suggested.“I just want to have a dress for my wife, that’s all” Luther continued. Mattew sighed in disbelief, he wanted to act
