Designated Driver

Mason drove into Sonia’s neighborhood, taking a turn that led to her street. The few pedestrians moving in the opposite direction waved at the windshield, indicating that they should avoid that direction. Mason, adamant at their warnings, adjusted his gaze to see what the pedestrians were referring to, and his eyes panned at the distant red and blue flashes of the police siren, illuminating the roadblocks ahead of them.

The environment, which was once filled with silence and peace, was now invaded by barricades and several cops searching vehicles and requesting drivers for licenses. The paramedics busy at the nearby ambulance caught Mason’s attention, and he turned to Sonia, who also had her attention pinned on the scene.

The policemen holding a bright touch light noticed the incoming car and flashed their light for him to pull over. Mason, obeying their instructions, removed his leg from the accelerator and slowed the car to a stop.
