The Couple

As Mason walked towards the elevator, he noticed that the two women's footsteps suddenly stopped when he passed them. The whispers and sudden gasps made it clear that they had realized who he was and now had stunned expressions written on their faces. He deliberately avoids making eye contact with them, knowing that it would confirm their fear of him overhearing their earlier conversation.

Mason approached the metal door and tapped at the button, prompting it to open. When he was about to step inside, the figure of someone brushed past his shoulders, nudging him to the side.

“Excuse you,” the man who bumped into him said, not casting a glance at Mason. With a furrowed brow, Mason glanced at the man, who was busy scrolling through several images from his iPad to the lady next to him. The girl, also not glancing at him, clings to the man with a smug face as she whispers into his ear.
