Chapter 12: Leveling Up By Stalking
If I form a party with her, we'll be unstoppable in future. Calm down. Calm down. No need to jump the gun. She may just want to gain power to be independent. I can't force her to form an actual party with me at the moment.
I exhale as I concede.
"Fine. Just make sure you don't get hurt, ok?"
"Of course. I don't want to cause more trouble for you after all."
"…Then, let's proceed."

We ended up killing our way back from the woods, but I still haven't levelled up. As for her…she probably got stronger. It's still a scary ability that I can't wrap m head around. She could just find the highest in the player food chain and stalk them if they don't form a party with her. Leveling up by stalking. Heh. Sounds like a cool Manhua premise?
Well, I am technically one of, if not the player at the top of the food chain in this area. What if she knew that and approached me just because of this? Ah. No. What am I thinking? She was indeed badly injured and nearly died. But if I find out that my negative thought was true…that she risked it all just to latch unto me…terrifying. I would kill her on the spot. An existence with such level up potential having negative thoughts? I shiver as I imagine the carnage that would entail.
"So…I guess this is where we part."
"Huh? Oh." She pauses with a hint of unhappiness. Emotions. I don't have doubts at this point about her gaining sentience. "What about coming to the bakery so I can make you, my specialty?"
She doesn't want to separate just yet I see. I exhale as I concede.
"Fine let's go. I would love to try out your specialty."
At the sound of my words, her beautiful face is plastered with an enchanting smile. I can swear on my potatoes back home my heart just skipped a beat.

The bakery seems like a pub. There are circular tables of varying sizes with varying number of chairs around them. Although the counter is empty, there are cases for displaying various baked goods. The place is empty and looks deserted, but it is very clean. What am I saying? The bakery was closed, I bet it is usually lively when it's open.
"You can sit wherever you like." She smiles as she puts on a white apron and heads behind the counter where she washes her hands before disappearing to the back. I'm guessing that's where she bakes.
It took about twenty-five minutes before she came out once more. I was expecting her to be coming here to wait for it to bake in the oven, but she was holding a cake on a plate.
"Here." She places it on the table with that charming smile on her face.
"You're done already?" I blurt out. Wait. What am I saying? Of course, it's possible. We are in a game.
"Eh? Oh. It usually takes longer but I can make the process faster."
"?" I guess it's a game indeed. I'm about to grab a fork when I notice that she swayed a little. Was she about to feint? I catch her and assist her to sit down. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah. I'm just a bit tired. Speeding up the baking process burns a lot of energy." She removes my hand from her shoulder. "But it's ok. I didn't want to keep you waiting."
"…" I'm speechless and feel kind of guilty? "Please don't do that in future otherwise…"
"Ah. I'm sorry. If Sir Dexter doesn't like it, then I won't do it in future."
"Eh?" Did the way I trailed off in my last statement sound like a threat? I only stopped because I was about to say something stupid: Otherwise, I may start falling for you. Ah! What's wrong with me? She's an NPC. Well, at least, she was. Either way, she's not a real person.
"I didn't mean it as a threat. Sorry if I made you misunderstand."
"Hehe. That's right. Sir Dexter is kind."
"…You're doing that on purpose, aren't you?"
"Hehe." She laughs at my reaction to being called something that makes me feel old. "Ok. Please try my specialty…Bundt cake."
"Ok. Ok." I sit down and cut it with a knife before eating it with a fork.
"Hmm." I moan unintentionally. Why? It's just too good. This is the best cake I've ever had. Funny though since it's not real.
"How is it?" She asks.
I look up to see a face with a smile but a hint of anticipation.
"It's great…the best."
"Woohoo." She lifts up her hands in the air like she's celebrating a goal. "Dexter likes my baking so I'm really good after all."
"Huh? Who said it isn't?"
"No one. No one comes here. I hardly ever get customers. It used to be fine since I didn't care…until recently."
She must be talking about when she gained sentience. NPCs won't are for such things but sellers with sentience will feel it if they don't have customers.
"It's fine. I'll be your customer from now on then."
'Ah. Really?!" I nod since I've just stuffed more cake into my mouth. "That's great! Feel free to come whenever you wish. I'll be your personal Bundt cake girl."
We finish the cake, and she begins to clean up.
"By the way, I've been meaning to ask."
"Mm-hmm." I toss the napkin I just used to wipe my mouth and hands into the bin.
"Who is that woman you always talk to?"
"Huh?" What is she talking about? "What do you mean? Is this your way of asking if I have a girlfriend?"
"What is a girlfriend? A girl that is your friend? Then Admin is your girlfriend?"
"Eh? Ah. What are you saying? How can I like the admin." She thinks the admin is a person and her name is 'admin.'
"So, she's not your friend? Are you enemies?"
"No. It's not like that." I exhale. Let's leave this topic. She will learn to understand these things eventually. She still hasn't even figured out she's in a game world. "Ahem. By the way, why do you ask?"
"It's nothing. I just started hearing her voice all the time recently when she's talking to other people, but she seems to be really affectionate towards you?"
Eh? Affection. She probably mistook the preferential treatment I get from the admin as 'affection.' She probably won't answer other player's questions regarding things they don't have access to, unlike me who has access to most information due to my status as the son of the developers.
"Forget it then. I was just going to say she's about to announce something important."
She can sense the admin? Since when? I thought the admin said they couldn't interfere with each other? Wait. Interfere. She never said she couldn't sense her. After all, although the admin couldn't interfere with Elise directly, she could still sense and monitor her. It shouldn't be surprising that it goes both ways. I'm broken out of my little world by the voice of the admin.
[Attention all Players. Attention all players. This is an announcement to inform you that the beta testing phase has been completed and proven successful. As a result, the game will be updated to the full version where events and other special features will be introduced. For starters, the key feature of Utopia is now unlocked, and all players can take out in-game loot to the real world. But you must pay the appropriate number of Utopia currency for them. Thank you and I hope you keep playing. Further information will be included once update is complete.]
Chapter 13: Harvest Function "Huh?" It dawns on me what this means. With the ever-dwindling food and housing, this is quite good for the real world. Clothing…shelter? Urbanization has mad high-rise buildings really common. The norm even. With the reducing landmass available due to flooding (from global warming), buildings with more floors are a wiser choice since it will accommodate more people with the same piece of land. That's good and all but why am I jumping the gun? Bringing loot to reality? Is that even possible? I know man's technology has grown by leaps and bounds but this concept and be likened to creating something from nothing. Can the in-game stimuli be counted as a form of energy? VR loot as energy convertible to real life objects? I doubt that. Maybe they mean something like, you can bring it out to the real world as a hologram or something. Let's move on for now and try it out when the update is complete. "Thanks for the cake." "Are you leaving?" "Yes…" Why do I f
Chapter 14: I'm Not A Real Person "Elise…hello." Why am I panicking? Scratch that. Why shouldn't my heart pound? If she has really realised that she is not real and this world is virtual, how do I appease her? How do I make her come to terms with that? "Real…world?" "You don't have to lie to me. It's fine. I've learnt a lot the past few days while listening to the Admin. She's not a real person either, is she?" "…No." I really didn't think this would happen (her finding out). At least not this fast. "But the fact that you're not real doesn't mean you're insignificant to me." "…" She doesn't respond. I can't tell what the meaning of the expression on her face is, but I thinks she's pouting? I don't know. I might be wrong. I walk over to her and look hr in the eye. "You don't believe me?" "…" "Come on. Please answer. You're making me nervous." She doesn't answer but kisses me on the cheek before turning around and by the time I snap out of the trance I entered after the kiss; sh
Chapter 15: Boom Not Boon For Humanity "Is there any way to tell who is and who isn't?" I ask. "…Hmm." She seems to be in thought. "At the moment, we can only check through the system, which is taking some time to check all the servers but as for regular players? I'm not sure you can differentiate them unless they have their memories. Some of them usually suffer amnesia. And those with their memories are usually freaking out. Some weird ones were slightly happy though. Anyway, all the ones we have found so far have been moved to a separate server." "…" My heart is pounding crazily at the moment. Elise may most likely be a player who has amnesia. Wait. The admin said she was an NPC. "Can the admin tell if a player was sucked in? Is it possible for it to mistake players as NPCs that have gained sentience?" "This…I don't think so. The admins should have records of the NPCs that were generated before the players logged in. So, it should be easy to compare." I sigh in relief. "But, wi
Chapter 16: Cangue City's Arena "Phew." There are more people than I expected. There are many seats in this stadium. Stadia actually. The arena is split into multiple stages of different sizes and shapes for different types of matches which can be run simultaneously. You pay 0.2 U coin for a regular seat and 0.5 for a VIP seat. Well, there are technically no 0.2 or 0.5 U coin currency but that is what is charged to your Arena Ticket. I don't know why, but I got two tickets and paid for a VIP seat. [3 U coins → 1 U coin] [2 Arena Tickets → 1.3 Arena Tickets] I paid for a regular seat first but after getting uncomfortable while seating amongst others, I got a VIP one and the previous ticket is non-refundable. The most interesting matches are the ones fought by teams that have gotten popular in the short time the game has been released. I could wipe them out alone but learning how they fight will get me knowledge to be more effective. I may not need to care right now since I will
Chapter 17 The dual swordsman, Francis stays in the ring while his partner heads out and Juliet the female orc stays in with Marcus stepping out. "Start." The two of them cautiously walk in circles looking for an opening in their opponents. This goes on for about seven seconds before Francis throws the word in his right hand at Juliet's neck before charging at her. She ducks and comes back up with a leap towards her opponent. Whilst in mid-air, she pulls out a club from her inventory and swings it down at him which he blocks with the sword left in his left hand. He manages to parry the strike but staggers a few steps backward. Her strength seems to have overwhelmed him. She dishes out a kick towards his right knee, but he slides his leg backward causing her to miss, hitting the air before landing on the ground forcefully. Before she can retrieve her left leg, he steps on her left foot with his left foot, pining her in place and hitting striking her wa
Chapter 18: Beginning Hand To Hand Combat TrainingTeam B, Marcus and Juliet's team ended up wining the second round and took the victory. I left after their match and started heading west. I couldn't find an opponent that is in my tier so I couldn't participate. The rules state that in 1v1s, none of the competitors should be more than 2 levels higher than their opponent. As for teams, the average level of the teams must have a difference no greater than 1 and the difference between the highest levels on each team should be no greater than 2. Which means, even if I found a teammate with a low enough level to get the team average level to be lower than 21 and equal to our opponents', their team must have someone that's up to level 19.Speaking of which. I am currently fighting a level 19 beast in hand-to-hand combat. I usually just levelled up by staying at a distance with my scythe and the singularity skill but few fist fights. It's a red monkey-like beast with
Chapter 1What do you define love as?Caring for someone? Wanting to be more than friends? Something you feel for someone you want to spend the rest of your life with? How you feel about your family? Can you use the word love to describe the care an owner has for his/her pet? Most will say yes, I think.“I love this pen.” Is that statement wrong? I don’t think so except you want to actually date the pen. Now that is just crazy. At least that’s what I would have said a few months ago.No. I’m not in love with a pen. Yes. I still consider such an ideology bonkers. But I’m in love with an NPC.Well, the game administrator says she’s technically no longer an NPC as she’s now tagged ‘error,’ but you get the gist.Hello. I’m Allister Newman from the year 3817 and I’m in love with an NPC.I don’t know if this time machine prototype works but it’s supposed to be able to send some digital data. I’ll test it with my diary.Settings: →1st century.I can’t send it any further than that.[0%...12%
