About Deryl Wiltson

“Mrs Bren, do you still have any bread left?”

A man wearing a shabby coat approached an old woman who was carrying trays out of a bakery, and of course this made the old woman roll her eyes in embarrassment.

“Come on, Deryl. How long will you expect mercy from me? Do you want to be like that all the time, Deryl?”

The man named Deryl could only smile stiffly, getting mercy from the cake shop owner and getting the remaining cake was one of the things that was not wrong, because according to him it would save much more money than having to buy it outside for breakfast.

“There’s some leftover bread from yesterday, take it, I hope it’s not stale!”

“Thank you, Mrs. Bren!”

Deryl smiled as he ate the bread so greedily, he walked quickly towards the place where he would carry out his routine throughout the day. Yes, in front of a flower shop in the city center. Deryl immediately spread a blanket on the grass then he placed an empty can in front of him then he sat down. Seeing several activities of people passing by in front of him who didn’t seem to care about him, and there was also one person who came and put a coin in Deryl’s empty can. Seeing this, Deryl was so happy, his smile broke out because of that.

“Thank you very much, sir. May god bless you!” exclaimed Deryl.

Until finally the first snow fell, of course this was something unimaginable. Winter was still about a month away, so how can this snow fall any sooner? And obviously when the winter or rainy season came, Deryl will die, he won’t get anything, and he will definitely be hungry all day because of that.

Deryl took a deep breath, he was about to get up from his seat because the falling snow would definitely make him cold. However, these steps were stopped when a woman wearing a red coat put several bills in her empty can. Deryl’s smile brightened when he saw this, he looked up to say thank you, but it was immediately stopped when he realized who the woman was. Yes, that woman’s name was Miya… his ex-wife. Until the smile on Deryl’s lips faded suddenly.

“What a pity, how could such a handsome man be a… beggar? He is even handsome enough to be an international actor.” A woman wearing a white coat looked at Deryl with a wide smile as if she had found prey.

Seeing this, Miya burst out laughing as if this was something very, very funny.

“Is it just because he’s handsome that he has a good future? Come on, Katy, you can find men like that in bars as prostitutes. Besides, a poor man like that will never make a woman happy, his appearance is just dirty and disgusting. Which woman would be willing to approach a smelly, seedy man like that?”

Deryl, who heard all that, could only hold his breath perfectly, it was really something that annoyed Deryl beyond measure.

“Never mind, don’t stay here too long. Later we will be poor and beggars like him.” Miya continued, inviting her friend to leave there.

Deryl smiled wryly as he looked at the money in his can, a total of two hundred dollars but the woman had lowered his self-esteem to this point. With an annoyed expression on his face, Deryl immediately threw the money in any direction. Even if he was hungry and needed to eat, Deryl would never accept a penny from Miya. The figure who had dumped and cheated on him after he was no longer working, the figure who had made his life completely ruined.

Deryl again ignored all of that, he immediately rushed home with completely futile results. Deryl frowned again perfectly, he couldn’t possibly continue doing this, being a beggar with an uncertain income, and of course this wouldn’t change his life at all. However, what can Deryl do now? He had tried his best to send dozens of applications everywhere but what? In fact, Deryl hadn’t received any good news about this. The last thing Deryl saw was when he sent an application to one of the companies via security, instead of the application being accepted, the security guard cruelly threw his job application into the trash. Rotten, indeed. But that was his life, and who knew what sins Deryl had committed in the past, that God gave him such terrible karma.

Deryl shook his head, he couldn’t give up, he had to try even though failure came to him a thousand times.

In the morning, still in the same place. Even though it was snowing, Deryl was still trying to resist the cold feeling that enveloped his body. It had been almost two hours since Deryl had been sitting, hoping for mercy from people, but no one had put coins in his can. Deryl took a deep breath and then pressed his stomach. It hurt. He hadn’t eaten since morning and Mrs Bren had closed her bakery because she was visiting her family in the village, a small misfortune that would definitely have a lasting impact on Deryl this time.

Until finally, Deryl pulled his eyebrows together. A pair of red heels with a matching coat, Deryl grinned, he was sure who was coming to him now.

“Do you still want to embarrass me again, Miya?” said Deryl, looking up but the expression on his face immediately changed. How could it not be, the figure thought to be Miya turned out to be an old woman with a graceful and expensive appearance. “Oh, sorry, ma’am. I thought you were an acquaintance of mine.”

“Does not matter.” The woman answered, Deryl just smiled stiffly. “If I may ask, what is your name, young man?”

Deryl frowned perfectly, he didn’t know why the foreign woman suddenly asked his name?

“Deryl, my name is Deryl Wiltson.”

“Before you became a beggar like this, what did you do for a living?” asked the old woman again.

This time Deryl grinned, he didn’t expect to get a question as strange as this. “Do I need to answer that?”

The woman now smiled faintly at Deryl, who seemed to be getting annoyed, then she stepped closer to Deryl and stretched out her smooth hand.

“Let me introduce myself, my name is Elissabeth Moe, owner of the Moe Group.  And my purpose here is to ask you to marry my granddaughter.”

“Huh?!”
