CHAPTER SIX

Max ran down the hospital corridor at high speed, just so he could get to and open the door to Irrisia's room.

He saw that Irrisia had opened her eyes, just as the infirmary had said and made her come to this place immediately.

Irrisia immediately looked at Max when the door opened, probably because she was a little surprised.

"Irrisia " Max called out to her, then slowly sat down near her bed. "How are you feeling?" Max asked, trying

not to show his sadness and pity for Irrisia.

Irrisia smiled slightly and replied. "It still hurts, but not as bad as when I opened my eyes." "Are there any areas that still hurt?"

"Other than my head, no." Irrisia glanced at her feet and looked at Max. "I thought my whole body would hurt, but my legs don't even feel it anymore."

"Irrisia ...." Max was dumbfounded and felt guilty. "Did you hear from the doctor? About your legs "

"Yes, I heard about it. He said I only have a small chance of recovery."

"Why are you smiling? Doesn't it hurt you a lot? You want to be a model, right?"

"Yes, I do want to be a model. But if I'm not destined to be a model, it's no big deal to me. I'm just happy that I'm still alive." Irrisia had been smiling and looking strong, but Max knew that she was just hiding her pain.

She must have been very disappointed and hurt to hear the news about her legs. Max knew that because Irrisia's eyes looked puffy. Was she crying hard after waking up from her coma?

"So, when can I get out of the hospital?" Irrisia asked, leaving Max dumbfounded. "The hospital fees must be very expensive. I don't think I can pay it off."

"But you have a lot of money in your account. The money I gave you."

"Ah, yes, it's a lot. But I don't think I'll spend it all just to treat myself. So I thought I should rush out, so that I don't have to pay so much that I spend all the money you gave me."

"Irrisia, you just got into a severe accident and almost died. You need to stay in the hospital until you are fully recovered. If you are worried that your money will run out for the hospital fees, I will pay for everything. I will pay for your treatment until you recover."

Irrisia chuckled, as if in disbelief that Max was so kind to her.

Irrisia took Max's hand in hers. "That's very kind of you, Max, but it's not just about the money." Irrisia said, leaving Max speechless. "I have to make sure that the money you give me can support me until at least I get a job. Because with my current situation, I might lose my job as a model and influencer."

Max paused, sitting back down with limp shoulders. His head was bowed in guilt. "I'm sorry, Irrisia. I shouldn't have let you become like this."

"Max, no... don't apologize. It's not your fault." Irrisia immediately set the record straight. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel guilty by saying that. I just wanted you to understand my situation and I wanted to make you understand that I'm fine with my decision."

"But you shouldn't be out of the hospital after just a few hours in a coma, Irris," Max said, worried about Irrisia. "Please stay here, listen to me, you don't have to worry about the hospital bills and your money will stay intact. At least let me do this as a price for my guilt."

Max bent down, grasping Irrisia's hand tightly as if kissing it. Seeing him begging like this, Irrisia finally accepted Max's kindness and complied with his wishes.

The next day, Max continued his mission to expose Zaco's crimes.

He went to the police station and sought news about the progress of the hit-and-run case that occurred in front of a fancy restaurant three days ago.

But when he heard from the police, Max was stunned by their answer. "We're planning to close the case since we can't find any trace of the culprit."

"What?" Max stood up from his seat in surprise, not expecting the answer from the policeman who looked relaxed at his work desk. "Did you mean what you said?"

" Boy, do you think this place is a place to play around?"

"I mean... how can you plan to close the case? A hit-and-run case that happened just three days ago and almost killed my girlfriend! Now she's facing a lifetime of disability and no one will take responsibility for it?"

The policeman named Andrew Richester sighed, put the report papers on the table and looked at Max with bored eyes.

"I'm not saying that I came up with the plan, but all the police investigating the hit-and-run case did! We've all been trying to find the culprit, but we can't find a trace."

"Are you kidding me? Did you work for so many years just to give up on a hit-and-run case?"

"Hey, are you underestimating the police? Do you really think catching criminals is as easy as using the logic of an inexperienced person like you?" Max said nothing as Andrew looked angry. "You want us to casually arrest civilians just to become suspects and to take the blame? Do you want us to use the law like that?"

"But you can search in other ways. Three days is too short to make a decision to close a case. Did you ask the witnesses? There were many people who witnessed the incident that night! Did you look at the CCTV footage around the incident scene?"

Andrew brushed his hair roughly and sighed again. "We've done everything. We've also questioned witnesses about the car the culprit used, but we can't find it. You think looking for one car in the whole city isn't exhausting? You see how thick my eye bags are!"

Max didn't answer and just looked at Andrew sharply. He still felt unwilling to have the hit-and-run case closed just because he couldn't find the culprit.

"Never mind, just go home. There are many people like you waiting for their problems to be solved. I'm not taking care of you and your girlfriend only," Andrew said, preparing to leave while carrying his reports.

But Max chased after him and still tried to seek justice for Irrisia by saying. "I know who did it!"
