CHAPTER 003: SYSTEM ACTIVATED!

“Mother!” Ethan whispered as he swiftly ended the call and had his phone plunged into his pocket. If there was anything he was scared about, it was losing his own mother. He hoped to stay with her for as long as he lived and not watch her die.

Ethan's heart pounded with fear and tension as he struggled to get back on his feet. Despite the pain from Gideon's attack, he refused to give up. His only focus was on reaching his mother.

“I have to get to my mother!” He muttered as he began to race towards the highway. The second he got to the bus station, he thought about running to the hospital, but that would waste so much time. He decided to stop a cab with the little money he had on him.

He was saving it for taking his mom home but at this point, seeing her was more important.

He felt his stomach churn at the thought of losing her on earth. He wouldn't be happy if anything happened to her. He knew she was weak, but it was best if she stayed alive for him.

“Fucking stop!” He roared as he tried stopping a cab. The other passengers that were standing closer to him immediately distanced themselves from him. They saw him as an insane man standing closer to them.

They wouldn't want to get bitten by someone like him. It was best to just avoid him entirely.

Just as he was trying to stop a cab, he paused at the sight of the car that passed him by, and it was none other than Gideon. He was driving at full speed, and he was heading towards the hospital.

“Is Camilla dying?” He struck his head immediately to stop the thoughts of Camilla. “You can't be thinking about her, Ethan! She betrayed you! She's just like others!” He muttered to himself, and last time he checked, she wasn't in his car.

“Did something happen?” He pondered deeply before he snapped back to reality. He needed to save his own mother and not be bothered by someone else's life.

He swiftly called on a cab, and this time, it stopped. The second he climbed into the car, he shut the door. “Louise hospital!” He stated this to the driver, who was waiting for a direction.

He swiftly started the engines of the car, and without a second thought, he stepped on the accelerator and drove towards the hospital as he had been directed.

As the car drove towards the hospital, Ethan couldn't help but feel anxious and had a rush in his heart. He could feel it; he could feel the heat coming up on him. With every second, he thought about nothing but his mom and still regretted seeing Camilla betray him.

He was anxious to get to the hospital at this point, and soon he arrived at his location or destination. The second the car stopped, he didn't hesitate to climb out of the car and pay the bills.

He shut the door, and just as he was about to rush into the building to go find out what had happened to his mother, he halted briefly, his eyes turning to the car that was parked close to the entrance. It was Gideon's car again, and it increased his curiosity, but he was going to find out after meeting his mother.

Without hesitation, he ran into the hospital building and headed straight for his mother's room. He was willing to stay with her for a while, but the second Ethan opened the door to her room, he froze right in his tracks at the sight of his mother lying on the bed with two nurses trying to bring her back to life.

“What is happening?” He asked with a broken heart, tears filling his eyes at this point.

The two nurses didn't say a word to him; they just kept pumping her chest, hoping she'd wake up, but it wasn't working; it wasn't happening. And just then, they stopped, panting like they had run a thousand miles.

“We are sorry, Mr. Ethan, but... your mother is...” One of the nurses was about to announce her death, but Ethan immediately stopped her.

“No! No,” he said, shaking his head incessantly. “There's no way my mother is dead! You don't… You didn't take care of her! That's not how to work! She can't die!” Tears trickled down his cheeks as he just didn't believe the announcement.

He walked closer to her bedside, and with his hand, he cupped her cheeks and stared into her face. As tears filled his eyes, making his vision blurry, he formed a bitter smile on his lips.

“I'm back, mother... I promised to be back! I promised to come back to you, remember? I am here. Please don't leave me!” Ethan begged as his hand left her cheeks and trailed down to her hand. He grabbed it tightly and lifted it to touch his cheek, but instantly, it slipped from his grip and fell limply to her side.

“Mother! Mother please! Please!!! I promise to give you everything you want! Don't leave me too! Don't leave me too! Trust me, mother, I'll make you smile!” He cried out, the realisation dawning down on him, his heart racing rapidly.

“Mother please!” He exclaimed on and on, shaking her body and pleading that she returned to life, but it wasn't happening. She wasn't saying a word; she wasn't calling his name.

“Mr. Ethan, I think you should leave!” One of the nurses tried pulling him out of the room, but Ethan refused, shoving her off his side.

“I'm not leaving my mother! She's going to open her eyes. I know her; she will never leave me!” He cried, as he declared. He cupped her cheeks again, praying silently for a miracle, but it wasn't coming to reality.

“Mother!!!!” He bellowed in the room as he clutched onto her body tightly.

Just then, the doors burst open, and three doctors rushed into the room. Without a moment's hesitation, they seized Ethan by the hand and forcefully pulled him away.

"Let me go! My mother is in there! Please, let me go!" Ethan's cries of desperation echoed through the hallway as he struggled against their firm grip, but their hold was too strong to break free from.

They dragged him into the hallway, releasing their grip on him as soon as they reached a safe distance. With trembling legs, Ethan collapsed to the ground, his heart heavy with dread and anguish.

"Mother!" Ethan's voice cracked with sorrow as he attempted to rush towards her room, but his path was blocked by the locked door. Frantically, he pounded on the door, his fists slamming against the wood in a desperate plea.

"Please, let me in! Please!" Ethan's voice wavered with desperation, tears streaming down his cheeks as he continued to beg, his cries mingling with the sound of his pounding fists.

Exhausted and defeated, he sank to the ground, his heart shattered into a million pieces, consumed by overwhelming regret and helplessness.

He blamed himself for everything. He blamed himself for not being the better son she wished to have. As he kept blaming himself for everything, he sighted Gideon again, and he was instantly filled with rage.

He followed him, but as he did, he noticed Gideon was walking up to the roof, and he was looking suspicious.

When Ethan reached the door leading to the roof, he cautiously pushed it open a crack and peered inside. His heart skipped a beat as he spotted Gideon and Albert, both looking a little frightened.

“What do we do, Gideon? The fake drugs you made me buy have killed so many, and that includes Ethan's mother! What do we do?” Albert spoke out as he trembled, and at this point, Ethan's eyes widened.

The fake drugs sent to the hospital killed his mother, and Gideon was the cause of it? He thought briefly as his hand clenched tightly against the door handle.

“She deserved to die anyway! Her son couldn't even feed her.” Gideon uttered coldly, and instantly, Ethan couldn't take it anymore.

Without a second thought, he pushed the door open, rushed towards Gideon, and punched him in the face.

“How dare you! How dare you say such a thing?” Ethan yelled as he faced Gideon.

“You fucking son of a bitch! You die today!” Gideon snapped as he furiously punched Ethan in the face countless times.

Ethan collapsed to the ground, his body trembling with exhaustion and despair. Meanwhile, Gideon hovered over him, his breath hot against Ethan's face as he continued to taunt him with relentless blows.

"Gideon, stop now... That's enough; he's losing breath!” Albert tried begging him, but Gideon didn't listen.

“He better do… because I won't have someone as wretched as him expose me to the public!” Gideon said with disdain as he grabbed Ethan and pulled him to the edge of the building.

"It's all over now; your life ends here. This is the best I can do for someone as poor as you! Say goodbye, Ethan!" Gideon declared. Ethan was too weak to struggle and free himself.

"You must pay for what you've done, Gideon! Everyone must pay!" Ethan managed to declare through his pain. He was bleeding, and his eyes were closing slowly.

"Maybe they would if you had another chance at life, but a broke fool like you can't afford it! Die Ethan!!!!!" With that, Gideon pushed him off the roof, ignoring Albert's protests.

“Finally, I'll see you, Mom... If I get another shot at life, I must make them all suffer! They must beg for mercy! Everyone who mocked and laughed at me must regret it all!" Ethan's final words echoed in the air as he closed his eyes, ready to fall and die, when abruptly and unexpectedly, a mechanical voice echoed loudly in his head.

“Where am I?” Ethan asked as he opened his eyes and found himself in a dark room. He couldn't tell his left from his right.
