Ella swaggered into the facility. She used her identity as Mrs. Jabri Vaahid to gain access to a military vehicle. While the military officials checked her truck and made sure everything was in order, she slipped into the weapons section and sneakily swapped a row of guns, pistols, bullets, bullet-proof vests, and military boots.
After getting everything she needed, she casually ambled out of the building and went to board her truck.
"Officers, thank you for your assistance today. I'll let my husband know how much you've helped me in getting his vehicle."
"Haha! Mrs. Jabri, no need to mention. We're just doing our duty. But with the state of things, I advise you not to go out in the nearby future. At the moment, people have still not come to terms with the current situation. But the moment they realize the severity of the circumstances, they'll lose their mind from terror and panic. It would no longer be safe for you to travel alone."
He didn't mention the criminals that would roam the streets or the humans that would jump her for her truck. At this moment, the situation was delicate, and the government barely suppressed the news that the virus was spreading like a wildfire.
Therefore, he didn't bother to bring up those topics, as he believed the woman wouldn't take his words seriously.
But since she was Jabri Vaahid's wife, he felt compelled to least warn her.
"Thank you for the warning, Officer. I'll take extra caution."
Ella hopped into her truck and cheerfully waved in farewell. Buckling her seatbelt, she reared her ride and drove out of the facility.
"Sigh. The world is already on the brink of destruction, but this woman is still smiling so happily. Should I call her naive and blind, or pampered and protected?"
The officer shook his head and returned to his cabin. The higher-ups had sent orders to the military bases in the country. Within five days' time, all officers were expected to withdraw with their military vehicles and weapons.
As a man who experienced the darkest sides of human nature, he immediately perceived the hidden intention of the protectors and leaders of the country.
Their selfish plan to evacuate with the weapons and vehicles while abandoning their people chilled his heart.
Alas, he was a minor officer that couldn't rise a wave, let alone start a revolution.
"In the face of life and death, even values and principles crumble as easily as sandcastles."
Right at this moment, the office door banged open, and a flustered officer ran in with an agitated expression.
"Commander Bran! The weapons...the weapons facility had been raided!" He shrieked.
"Say what!?"
On a deserted road, a lone military truck rumbled into town. Now that she had everything she needed to survive, Ella didn't even contemplate the idea of returning to the Vaahid Mansion.
First of all, it took two days for her body to transform and her special abilities to awaken, meaning she hadn't returned to the mansion for two days.
This was enough time for Jabri Vaahid to presume her dead or zombified.
Second, with the threat of humanity's extinction, the government would abandon ordinary humans. Their focus and protection would be concentrated on the superhumans equipped with the special abilities to survive the apocalypse.
This meant the supernatural creatures that had been lurking in the shadows, the creatures of night and magic who had been under their radar of supervision, would now be on the loose and free to do as they wished.
The world would be divided into a survival arena, on which one side would stand the zombies, one side the supernatural creatures, and one side the super-humans.
Jabri Vaahid, being the strongest and most mystical of the supernatural creatures, would soon be crowned King of the Supernaturals.
For her to return to the Vaahid Mansion would be the same as a lamb entering the castle of a beast.
And last, Ella wanted to do the unthinkable.
She wanted to try her luck and see if she could snatch an entire gas station!
Aurora City was in flames.
Buildings burned as people robbed stores and supermarkets. Though the severity of the meteor crash hadn't been determined yet, one-third of the human population was either dead or undead.
Some people began to notice their friends and families falling ill. But unlike most of the majority, who instantly transformed into flesh-eating humans, they took longer to recover.
But when they recovered, they gained unnatural abilities.
Soon, the people came to the conclusion that the zombie virus was a form of evolution. Those who evolved successfully became stronger, and those who failed turned into flesh-eating humans.
Bang!
"Brother Kuram, watch out!"
"Don't worry, it's only a level 1 zombie." Kuram flexed his muscles and ran forward, swinging the bat in his hand at the dazed zombie. With a sickening smash, the head of the zombie crashed like a watermelon, spraying blood and brain matter on his clothes. Kuram expressionlessly wiped off the gore on his face and moved to the red Toyota.
"Stacy, get in the car. We need to get out of here."
He cleared a few more zombies that neared them, while Stacy threw bags of canned food and water bottles into the trunk. Attracted by the noise, more zombies began to congregate around them, making nervous sweat gather on Kuram's forehead.
"Stacy, hurry up! It's fine if you can't get the rest of the supplies!"
Level 1 zombies were nothing to be afraid of. They were slow and stupid, with only a desire to bite. However, a horde of level 1 zombies, no matter how slow and stupid they were, were not easy opponents to tackle.
Death from encirclement was a common occurrence in such situations.
The second he saw her enter the car, Kuram made a dash into the driver's seat, started the engine, and floored the car. A few zombies with missing arms and falling eyeballs blocked the road.
Bang! Bang!
Without slowing down his speed, Kuram ran them over. The sickening crush of their heads rang in his ears as their blood smeared his windshield.
"Brother Kuram, do you think Ella is okay? With the descent of the meteor, everything changed. Jabri Vaahid...he wouldn't care about getting an heir anymore." Stacy bit her lips, and tears gathered in her eyes. She looked at the man driving the car with a worried expression. "He wouldn't have thrown her out, right?" She sorrowfully whispered.
"So what if he throws her out? So what if he doesn't? Even if she dies under his hand, Elladine has nothing to do with us." Kuram coldly declared.
"But..."
"No, but! Do you understand what's happening right now? The world is in chaos. At this point, it's more than enough if we can secure our own lives. Don't think about unnecessary people."
Even though Ella was his wife for two years, Kuram had never felt anything for her. The girl was dull and boring, too modest in manner and dress for the current times.
If Kuram didn't want to secure a free maid in the expensive Hollywood city of Aurora, then he would've never harmed himself so miserably by giving her the nominal status of his wife.
"Keep an eye out for a gas station. We need to fill our car before heading to the safe house on the east." He grimly instructed.
Stacy had no problem doing that.
It wasn't like she truly cared about Elladine Muzhir. She only wanted to reconfirm Kuram Noel's feelings for his former wife. With the descent of the meteor, the world was no longer safe. She was weak and powerless and hadn't awakened any power.
In order to survive, she needed to tightly hang on to Kuram.
Since they had already divorced, Elladine had better not appear to snatch her man, otherwise...
A vicious glint flashed through her eyes. Her sight fell on a familiar figure, and Stacy's sneer froze on her face. She hurriedly lowered the window and cried.
"Brother Kuram, is that Elladine!?"
Ella twirled her twin guns and shot the level 1 zombies straight between the eyes. The roaring creatures froze, then fell backward like a stack of dominoes. Without a change in expression, she hopped over their figures and strode into the supermarket. 'Sigh. Seems like I'll need to wait.' Ella had spotted her ex-best friend and ex-husband long before they noticed her. But considering the current state of things, she hoped the two would ignore her and continue on their merry way. After all, she had her own plans and interacting with a scumbag and a two-faced snake wasn't a part of it. Unsurprisingly, however, she expected too much... "Elladine!" Stacy's high-pitched voice pierced through the air and attracted the nearby zombies. Ella cursed under her breath and ignored her. Violently kicking open the gas station door, she strode to the back alley in search of a generator and fuel trucks. Attracted by the deafening bang, a few employees turned zombies ambled towards her. Ella sh
"Ahhh!" Bang! Bang! "Maintain a six-foot distance. Aim for the center of the forehead. If you get bitten or touched by a drip of saliva, do everyone a favor and take your life!" Marcus pursed his lips and cast a glance to his right. He wanted to see the ignorant wench that dared to make such a bold command. Was it that easy for a person to take their own lives? A string of gunfires erupted all around. Lush black hair swayed under the crimson sky like threads of black silk on red canvas. A snow-white cheek and a spark of violet orb. And that was about it. Marcus's view of the female was blocked by the appearance of a large man before he could get a clear glimpse of her face. 'She sounded too naive to encounter this sort of disaster.' A pang of regret tugged at his heart. If it was any other time, such a girl would be adored and looked after by many men. However, now... Chuckling unsympathetically, Marcus shook the strange feeling away, heaved his MP5, and focused his sight bac
Encircled from every direction, the humans who awakened special abilities gathered together in the center of the road. "We won't survive if we try to escape on our own. But if we work together, we'll have a chance to survive." Marcus swept his hand. A car flew in the air and crushed a horde. The undead wriggled and twisted beneath the heavy weight, some even succeeding in crawling out. "I'm making this proposition because I'm sure you've all noticed the limits of our individual efforts." Prolonged use of special abilities placed a heavy strain on the user's mind. In one-to-three or even five confrontations, the superhumans would easily gain the upper hand against the mindless zombies. But in a one-to-ten confrontation...they could only wait to be eaten. Irene twirled her ice blade and hacked off a one-eyed zombie's arm. "I don't mind working together, but who's going to lead?" She asked. "If everyone is okay with it, I'm willing to take on the role." Marcus volunteered. The surro
What is she!? This one question flashed in their minds. The zombie virus had only erupted a few days ago. Humans who awakened superpowers were still grappling with their new reality, relearning and re-familiarizing themselves with their abilities and the crumbling world around them. While some found excitement in the changes in themselves and the world, anticipating an exhilarating experience like in fantasy novels, others were filled with nothing but trepidation and apprehension. But either way, all the superhumans wielded their new abilities in one way or another. They exchanged knowledge and obtained as much information as they were able, despite the lack of internet. However, in the limited intel they gathered, there was no mention of a terrifying ability like the one the woman before them possessed. "Haha! That was a good show, but still not enough to daunt me." Marcus threw back his head and laughed. The woman's ability was frightening. It ate up an entire hand without leav
Mouths slackened, eyes widened. The superhumans turned as still as statues. They gaped at the woman on top of the car, as if she suddenly grew two heads. Dead silence settled over the crowd, the annoying growls of the zombies the only sound in the region. Everyone had seen her move. The folds of her heavy skirt flapping in the air had raised enough breeze and created enough noise to turn a few heads. But her movements had been so fluid, so smooth that they were entranced by the graceful dance and failed to notice the sharp edge. By the time the act concluded, what entered their sights were two heads with milky-white eyes staring unnervingly at them. The small group of superhumans who had been whispering and murmuring disdainfully visibly stiffened, while Marcus's lips compressed into a straight line. After a period of time that felt like hours, faint yelps of surprise and quick sucking of breath resounded and shattered the stiff atmosphere. "Da**! That was too beautiful!" "I d
In the apocalyptic world, Celio Daen and Irene Moore were two of an elite team of five fearsome superhumans. With Celio awakening a Wind and Irene an Ice special ability, the two became widely known for their impenetrable defense and explosive offense. As they leveled up, the power of their abilities grew more frightening, giving even the lawless supernaturals a headache. However, as powerful as these two were, they also had a strong sense of loyalty to those they pledged their allegiance. Once, a superhuman under the protection of former officers approached them. He was sent by the people who once governed the country with the intention to recruit. New clothes, delicious and varied food menu, a lifestyle similar to that of a wealthy young master and mistress in a protected mansion...they were offered everything considered a luxury in a world severely deficient in resources and freight with dangers. However, under the temptation of such great benefits, the two rejected without hesi
The air turned static, the atmosphere seemed to freeze and, like a slow-motion picture, sound faded to the background. Ella's ink-black hair rose on a draft of wind, and as it floated above her head, it shone with a glossy sheen as if dusted with specks of shattered stars. Her command resonated in the region, carrying unnatural authority and power that compelled one to obey. Under the dumbfounded eyes of the humans and superhumans, a spiderweb of cracks spread through the ground, tendrils of crimson-gold flames crackled in the slit and licked the edges, before flaring upward with greedy tongues. The ice spears restraining the zombies fractured, fiercely vibrated, then violently exploded under their combined weight. The instant the undead surged forward, the numerous cracks on the ground split apart. Snarling and wheezing, the horde of zombies tumbled into the blazing fissure. Dozens upon dozens of undead fell in the sea of crimson-gold, swallowed and consumed in the belly of the
"Hey, wait for me!" Celio immediately left the group and chased after the girl. He didn't have any specific destination anyway. Following a person who had the skill to survive this nightmare wouldn't harm him in any way. "I've never been on Sapphire Island. I guess it won't hurt to take a look. Who knows? I might not be alive to do so in the future." Irene separated from her girlfriends and jugged to catch up with the two. Marcus didn't say anything. He hosted his MP5 and joined the three with a blank expression. To awaken two skills at the same time...he wanted to know how she accomplished such a feat. Seeing the team of four walk away, some superhumans only hesitated for a brief moment before going in a different direction. Though the four were powerful, they believed they weren't any less powerful. As long as they gathered a group of followers, they would be able to form their own power base. The humans fell in a dilemma. They wanted to follow the team of four, but Sapphire
