10 Unknown Attackers

Antonio glanced at Michele with a heavy expression, but he soon let out a soft sigh of relief.

'At least it's settled now,' he muttered to himself.

They'd already been moved to the VIP building, and Michele's treatment had begun.

His chemotherapy session was scheduled for Friday evening, afterwards the surgeries would follow.

Skimming through the document for the last time, Antonio scribbled on it with an unreadable expression.

''Pass it to her.'' He folded the paper and handed it to Leonardo.

He didn't need to be told whom Antonio was referring to, he nodded with all seriousness as he received the document.

Having finished his business here in the hospital, well, at least at the moment. Antonio stood up, pushing the white chair he was sitting on just now as he headed for the door.

Leonardo and Richard followed suit, the former was a few steps ahead on the right while the latter was standing just behind Antonio on his left.

They soon found their way out of the magnificent building as they made a detour around the regular building, also the main building of the hospital.

Soon enough, the snow began to fall, some landing on Antonio's cheek.

It didn't take long before Antonio felt a shadow above him, Richard had opened a thick, dark umbrella.

By the time they got to the grey gate covered with snow, their boots were already sinking into the thick snowy ground.

The three men enveloped in silence passed through the gate and just as Leonardo reached to open the black SUV, his heart instantly sank, but his years of experience made him snap out of his trance.

''Dive!'' Leonardo's alarm rang in Antonio's and Richard's ears, and then…

Bang!

The sound of a bullet echoed in the vicinity, and a figure muddled in blood fell to the cold ground, his eyes looking listless.

''Richard!'' Antonio wanted to rush to this bodyguard's position, but another gunshot rang in the air, which made him duck under the car.

Leonardo had brought out a handgun, and he shot without aim, before arriving beside Richard.

Pulling him to a cover, Leonardo ducked again as another bullet hit the car, just a few inches away from his head.

'Damn it, a sniper.' Leonardo gritted his teeth, as he rolled under the car, covering Antonio.

''Young lord, we're under attack.'' Leonard's hurried tone broke the chilling silence under the car.

The driver, who hadn't left the car since they arrived, was also shooting from an angle, since he had a better view.

Inside the hospital, chaos had run amok as patients heard a series of gunshots coming from the outside.

Tyler had a feeling of foreboding, and he quickly unstrapped his handgun and dashed to the top of the building.

On reaching the roof, he curled up beside a brick and glimpsed outside with binoculars.

As a bodyguard, one who worked for the chairman, they had rich experience, and they always made sure to go out with enough tools to fend off any attack.

Even though they didn't expect to be assaulted today, since no one knew of their movements, they still came armed.

After browsing through the vicinity from a higher view, Tyler soon understood the situation of Antonio, the client he was supposed to guard.

The young heir, they were supposed to guard.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Anon aimed at his eleven o'clock and pulled the trigger.

A figure in black grunted before falling from the roof of the building adjacent to the hospital.

Tyler soon received a call as he spoke to the receiver.

''The sniper has escaped, but his accomplice is down,'' Tyler muttered, his voice as still as a lake.

Before the police would arrive, he left the roof and rushed outside, to where Antonio was.

Seeing Tyler's silhouette as the gate opened, Antonio's face darkened, his eyes knitting with anger.

''Go back and see if my brother is fine, this may be a distraction,'' Antonio yelled, but he was already sprinting back to the hospital.

Tyler momentarily froze before his face turned ashen as he also went back to the hospital, his gun still pointing ahead, ready to pull the trigger.

Leonardo and the driver were left with Richard, who had lost consciousnesses, his body soaked in his blood.

Instructing the driver to give him a cover, Leonardo carried Richard, as he leaned in on his shoulder, lacking any strength.

In a quick but careful manner, they entered the hospital, and by then the nurses, ambulance and stretch chair were already set in place.

No one knew the magnitude of the casualty, and they could only rush towards Leonardo's approaching figure.

Inside Michele's ward, Antonio barged in, his eyes fixated on a body strapped to the bed.

A soft sigh left his mouth, as his racing heart slowed.

Even though it was snowing, outside, Antonio's palms and back were drenched in cold perspirations.

___

About twenty minutes later, ten men in similar dark suits with intimidating auras entered Michele's ward, all of them bowing to Antonio.

The latter looked listless, but the voice of one of the bodyguards stirred his focus back to reality.

''The Chairman instructed us to guard your brother, and your escorts are outside waiting for you.''

The man who had spoken appeared to be in his early forties, his voice hoarse from years of potent tobacco.

'Is that so?' Antonio's murmured inwardly.

He had yet to return, yet he had begun to question whether he made the right decision by calling these people back to his life.

Everything would've been okay if it were only him, but beside him was his brother who was handling his own battle in a separate world, where losing meant not opening his eyes to see the beautiful colours of this world again.

Clenching his thighs with so much force, Antonio nodded at the man, as he went past him and the other bodyguards.

He knew his next destination, and whether he was ready for it or not didn't matter.

Today, he would meet the Chairman, and there was no going back.
