7 Leonardo's Frustration

Eli, one of the nurses in a white gown, was done with her morning ward round, and she was preparing to attend to their VIP patients in the special building.

The special building was still a part of the hospital building, but it was in the back, and the facilities and services there were thousands of times better than the ones in the regular building.

Even though the hospital was among the best in the entire state, the medical services meant solely for the VIPs could compete with other top hospitals across the world.

Eli was giggling inwardly, her face revealing a brighter shade, thinking of how lucky she was to have been assigned to the special unit.

The hospital management didn't just assign any Tom, Dick, and Harry… they had to consider the doctor's and nurse's experience.

Their current standings in the hospital, and overall, which was also the most important, how well connected they were.

To put it in a simple word, their influence, and backers.

Eli failed terribly at all these criteria, since she hadn't spent that much time in the hospital.

Moreover, she didn't have any backers, she had only got her job based on sheer luck.

However, an opportunity arose sometime back when the secretary of the board of medical directors started making advances towards her.

A great chance!

This was a fortuitous moment which she didn't dare let go of, making her accept the former's offer, without putting up any restraint.

With the secretary of the board of medical directors being her direct supporter, all her dealings in the hospital had been going smoothly like a road paved with grease.

Soon enough, she would be promoted to a matron, and she would be at an equal level with Lisa, the nurse in the green uniform.

Eli, still in her fantasy, was about to head towards the elevator that led to the special building in the back when she caught sight of a rather familiar figure.

Her elbows rested on the reception table, and her expression soon darkened.

'This bearer of misfortune, what is he doing here again?' Eli couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows, her cold gaze fixated on Antonio.

"Hey, haven't we told you about your situation already?" she snapped.

''Oh… you're here to take your-'' Eli's countenance immediately twisted, the word she wanted to mutter, stuck in her throat.

Her eyes widened, and her heart momentarily skipped, seeing the three men in dark suits.

However, she soon came to a realization, as she let out a soft sigh of relief.

''Damn you, Eli, don't we have a new VIP patient? Isn't it obvious that these unfriendly friends are here for him?'

Seeing that she had just panicked over her own misconception, her cheeks reddened, embarrassed, which made her knit her eyes.

Her face creased in a tight fold, as she stared at Antonio with dark intent.

''Just take him and leave already, our hospital isn't for peasants, and neither does it look like a charity home.'' Eli had already turned her back to the four figures who were still at the entrance, as she headed for the elevator, and then out of their sights.

''What-''

One of the hefty men in a dark suit wanted to stop Eli, but he stopped midway, seeing Antonio raise his right hand.

''Let her be,'' Antonio whispered in a listless tone.

''But sir-''

Antonio turned his head this time around, his eyes met Leonardo, the same man who had tried to stop Eli twice.

Leonardo couldn't help but shiver, seeing those two brown eyes that had no emotions in them.

It reminded him of his chairman, and he didn't realize when he gulped.

Antonio didn't continue on this matter as he approached the reception for the second time today.

''I need to see my brother.'' Antonio's words were short, sharp, and dead to the ears.

The three nurses he met earlier had left their spots, and the reception only had a different nurse at the moment.

Sandra didn't know why, but all thoughts of antagonizing this man dissolved in her mind.

Even though she never thought of picking on him right from the onset, just grasping his underlying tone of authority made her delete any unfilial thoughts towards him.

''Please follow me,'' she muttered, heading to a particular room on the right.

Moments later, they entered a different unit, and reading the tag at the top, Antonio sighed.

General Palliative Care

This ward had about twenty patients, yet due to its large space, it didn't appear choked up.

Walking to the last bed that lay against the crystal white wall, Antonio saw the person he had been looking for since his arrival here.

All the humiliation he suffered today was momentarily placed at the back of his head, as he walked closer to his brother, who lay in bed, covered with a blue fabric.

An oxygen mask was fixed on his nose, and a drip was attached to his left wrist.

A blood bag was also fastened to his right wrist, and a catheter, along with other medical equipment and wires, were connected to his body.

Antonio's heart tightened, feeling as though they were stabbing and wriggling his heart into tiny shreds.

Even though he had been here all the time, whenever he saw his kid bro's condition always made him feel a stabbing pain in his chest.

Staring at the four men and the patient in come, Sandra felt an awkward silence, feeling the need to meddle in.

''Umm sir… his condition is really at a critical stage, and he needs a timely intervention so-''

''So what are you still doing?'' Leonardo yelled, not caring that other patients would be disturbed.

''Sir?'' Sandra blurted out, her mouth agape.

She couldn't help but wonder if she had misheard the man with a rough, uncourteous manner, but seeing the looks of disapproval coming from the other patients' relatives, Sandra realized that the man in the dark suit had indeed yelled.

She relaxed her furrowed eyes, feeling intimidated as she momentarily exchanged a gaze with Leonardo, before mustering a smile.

''Sir, I'm afraid the hospital can't proceed with the surgeries unless the necessary deposit is made,'' Sandra explained.

Leonardo, on the other hand, having received a timely order from the Chairman before their arrival here, shifted his gaze towards Antonio.
