Chapter 6

Everyone gazed at Marcus as he handed over his card to the sales representatives, she collected the black card from Marcus and slotted it inside the payment machine.

The scanner’s light didn’t turn green as Marcus expected, which means the payment failed.

“The payment failed.”

“Try it again.”

Marcus utters. She slotted the card in again and again, but the payment failed.

“The payment failed again.”

The sales representatives utter with a half smile on her face; it seems his mother-in-law was right after all; he's indeed useless, she utters to herself. Marcus was confused as he heard what the sales representatives just said: Why would the payment fail? Could it be that Mr. Robert didn't fund the card? At that moment, he also remembered that Mr. Robert sent $10 billion to his cashless account. He quickly brought out his phone, and his face went down immediately when he saw his phone battery was dead. He couldn’t understand what was going on, so he faced the sales representatives.

“Please, can I charge my phone for a little, so I can use the cashless app? My battery is dead.”

Penelope burst into laughter immediately.

“Hahaha, I told you all, he's here to steal something; he wants to run away. Search him properly. He must have hidden something inside his clothes already.”

Hazel was disappointed, as she thought Marcus truly had the money to pay, as he insisted. What was she thinking to have thought he could pay when she knows he doesn't have a dime in him now that he's looking for an opportunity to escape after running his mouth? Charles's face squinted at that moment, he hates when poor people who are supposed to be loyal start feeling big as if they are on top of the world when they are clearly inside a drainage.

He gazes at the sales representative.

“Call the security now; he's here to steal something.” The sales representative had no reason to say no; it's clear that was what Marcus was trying to do. She brought out her phone and called security.

“We have a thief inside the store; please come quickly.”

Marcus still doesn't understand what he wants to do.

Why did the card not work? Cashless app would work, he says.

“At least you guys should allow me to charge my phone a little, so I can use the cashless app.”

“Shut up, you helpless beggar. This is what you do. You go around using this same trick. Thank goodness you have been caught today.” Penelope just want Marcus gone for good; it doesn't matter how she was able to achieve it; as long as he's gone, she will be the happiest woman. He's so damn f*cking useless. Not long after the security came in, they pointed at Marcus. One of the security guards recognized Marcus; he was the security guard at the door when Marcus entered the mall. he knew something was suspicious about him.

“I know it; I know something was suspicious about you; I know you're here to steal something when I first saw you, here you were actually stealing something.”

He points at Marcus.

“You better come with us quietly, or we will use force on you.”

Marcus was still standing; he was sure there was a mistake somewhere. The security guard didn't get any response from Marcus, and they decide to use force on him.

“Get him down.”

They were walking towards Marcus, about to take him down, when he uttered

“Let's try the card again.” Charles was no longer finding any of this interesting. He knows the bastard can't afford anything here; he's just trying to escape. He then faces Penelope.

“Mother, let's leave this madman; he's insane. Oh, my lovely Hazel has truly suffered at the hands of this insane man.”

Penelope smiled brightly, finally having a well-to-do son-in-law who could take care of them in the family without suffering a dime, and they had nothing to do. Penelope, once again, faced Hazel and held her hands close to her side.

“Come, let's go, Hazel; this is no longer the Marcus you once knew; he's so insane.”

Hazel didn't say anything; she was so disappointed in Marcus. She turned and followed Charles as they worked away from the scene. Marcus's face darkened. He couldn't believe Hazel would turn her back on him when everything he had ever done in his life was to make her happy. He gave all the money he got from the stock he invested back in school to her family because of the love he had for her. Now she dares turn her back and follow another man away. Marcus felt humiliated; he was about to run after them but was stopped by the security guard. At that moment, the crowd started to gather, wanting to know what was going on. He didn't want his face to be the talk of Summerville tomorrow, not when he knew his real identity now. He could have called Robert to inform the manager of the JSK shopping mall but his phone battery died. He has no other choice but to leave with the security quietly.

At that moment, the manager of the store entered the scene, and they were shocked they couldn't understand what the manager was doing at the store at that moment.

“Which one of you used the payment machine?”

The sale representatives who were so attentive to Marcus raised her hands a little.

“Sir, that man over there wanted to use his card to make payment for the clothes he got, but the machine couldn't process card, the payment failed it seems he doesn't have any money in it, we finally discovered he was here to steal something. We called the security quickly.”

the manager walks closer to Marcus he has got a notification saying a black Card payment was declined in his end he quickly come over to see who that was.

“Let me see the card.”

Marcus handed over the black card to the manager. He collected the card from Marcus and looked at it carefully for a minute, and then he said

“Sir, you can take away all the clothes without paying for them its on the house.”
