Chapter 2

Gibson left his office feeling shattered. His thoughts were scattered, blurring the lines between right and wrong.

"What should I do?!" Gibson asked himself, frustration evident in his tone.

"Damn it! Why does all of this have to happen? Why her of all people?! I never even imagined she would go as far as to pin the blame on me like this."

Gibson raked his hair in frustration. He had truly been foolish to trust that despicable man so much.

He sat down at the roadside, letting the sounds of passing vehicles dominate his ears.

For a while, Gibson just daydreamed until he felt his phone vibrating and ringing in his trouser pocket.

He took out his phone, looking at the name of the person responsible for the ringing.

"Doctors?" Gibson mumbled, staring at his phone.

Gibson then walked a little forward. Trying to find a place where it wouldn't be too noisy to make it difficult for him to hear the sentence that the Doctor where his mother was being treated would say.

The man then picked up the phone from the doctor with a pounding heart fearing that something had happened to his mother.

"Afternoon, Doctor, is there something going on?"

Gibson tried to neutralize his currently already pounding heartbeat.

"Afternoon, Gibson, I must inform you of Ms. Genny's condition. She has a complication in her heart. It requires her to be fitted with a girr. Ms. Genny can only be moved to the operating room when the entire hospital fee is paid in full."

Gibson fell silent.

Just when he was grappling with such a significant issue, he had to receive this distressing news from his sister.

"What test is this now, God?" Gibson muttered, unsure of what to do next.

Do you have the money ready, Gibson?"

Gibson then snapped out of his reverie.

"Yes, Doctor. I'm out here. I'll come and bring the money later.

Not long after, Gibson decided to end the call.

Just as Gibson was about to open the apartment door again his cell phone vibrated, indicating an incoming message.

Gibson took a deep breath and let it out roughly when he received the message from the doctor. Now his brain was thinking hard, until finally Gibson had the thought to borrow from his wife's family.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Gibson went straight to his in-laws' house.

In just a few minutes, Gibson stood in front of the rather luxurious house. Even though he was not well-off himself, his wife's parents were quite wealthy, making it difficult for Gibson to propose to her in the past.

"Is Kiara here as well?"

A security guard opened the gate, looking surprised to see Gibson arriving at his employer's house.

"Mr. Gibson?"

Gibson smiled, greeting politely, "Good day, is my father-in-law inside?"

The guard nodded and quickly opened the gate. "Yes, Mr. Gibson, please come in."

Gibson nodded and stepped in. His heart raced as he entered his in-laws' home, feeling uneasy about coming with the intention of borrowing money.

"What's the matter, Gibson?" A tall man appeared as Gibson entered the living room. A moment later, a woman of similar age also emergedand stood before Gibson.

Gibson swallowed his saliva, feeling intimidated by the two people before him.

"Mom, Dad, Gibson..."

Gibson halted, his tongue tied as if unable to continue.

"Mom is currently in the hospital, Dad, and she's about to undergo surgery," Gibson tried to convey his mother's condition.

His in-laws remained silent, seemingly unsurprised by what Gibson had just shared. For a moment, there was only the sound of silence between them until finally, his mother-in-law spoke up.

"So, what did you come here for?"

Gibson took a deep breath and exhaled heavily, as if what he was about to say weighed heavily on him.

"Gibson needs money, Mom's. I came here to borrow money for the surgery..."

"Hahaha, are you serious, Gibson?" His mother-in-law suddenly laughed, cutting off Gibson's words, her gaze dismissive.

"Do you think you'll be able to repay if I lend it to you? You can't even fulfill your wife's needs, so how will you pay us back?"

Gibson was taken aback by his mother-in-law's words. He looked towards his father-in-law, who was also shooting him an unsympathetic look.

"I'm not convinced you'll be able to return our money if we lend it."

Gibson shook his head, then knelt before his father-in-law and mother-in-law, desperately seeking the money for the operation.

"I beg you, Dad, Mom's, Gibson needs the money for the surgery. I promise to repay it."

Gibson clenched his fists, willing to prostrate himself like this in front of his in-laws for the sake of the hospital expenses.

"Don't think we'll lend you the money, Gibson! We're not even okay with Kiara marrying a poor man like you."

Kiara's mother pointed at Gibson, who was clenching his hands.

"Mom is sure you'll do something to make Kiara agree to marry you, right? You're just a poor man! Even your own mother couldn't make you successful, and you..."

"Enough, Ma! If you don't want to lend us the money, there's no need to insult and bring up Gibson's mother."

Gibson's patience has run out. He might have been able to accept it if Kiara's mother insulted him, but he couldn't bear it if his own mother was also insulted.

"Security!" Kiara's father yelled, summoning a security guard.

"No need to call security, Gibson can leave on his own."

With a grim expression and weary steps, the 30-year-old brown-haired man walked back to his apartment on foot, not too tired from receiving insults from his in-laws.

Arriving in front of his apartment door, Gibson sighed deeply several times, attempting to put on a smile before facing his beloved wife. He turned the doorknob and found it empty.

Gibson had a feeling his wife, Kiara, might already be asleep. Therefore, he headed straight to their bedroom. However, as he got closer to the door, he caught the sound of laughter coming from the woman he loved, accompanied by a man.

"Hans, please stop!" Her laughter echoed loudly. "I can't take it anymore! It tickles!"

Panic set in!

Gibson's heart raced within his chest, and his eyes widened like two suns on the brink of a massive eruption.

Outside the door, Gibson could hear a man inside the room saying, "Do you regret it now, Kiara? You should have chosen my love back then! Not that cowardly man!" Gibson was shocked.

Hans? Who is Hans? The name sounded so familiar.
