Chapter 7

Gibson was contemplating everything that had happened in his life in just a matter of hours. He had to weigh the pros and cons of Calista's offer. Regardless, his life was about to intersect with the world of black business.

Ddrrrttt... Ddrrrttt...

Gibson grabbed his phone and saw his sister's name on the screen. He clenched his fist and finally found his answer.

"So, what do you think?" Calista asked again gently, her eyes filled with hope, fixed on Gibson.

Gibson smiled thinly. "This plan is crazy, Calista. But it seems like it might work."

Calista smiled with relief, like the sun finally breaking through dark clouds. "So, you agree, Gibson?"

Gibson nodded. "I agree. We'll enter a contract marriage. I'll pretend to be your husband and protect you, Calista. But I want this agreement to be our secret."

"Of course, Gibson. My father could kill me if he found out about this plan. I really don't want to be engaged to the man he chose," Calista revealed.

"Will you introduce me to your father, Calista?"

"Of course. But only after we're married, Gibson," Calista's gaze turned somber, imagining the day when that would happen. She had no idea how her father would react.

The next morning, the gentle morning sun greeted the city. Gibson walked confidently towards the apartment where he and Kiara used to live.

In his heart, there was a mixture of determination and hope. As he arrived at the door, his heart raced faster, recalling what had happened the previous night.

"That damn car is in the parking lot. It means he's still in this apartment," Gibson said, clenching his fist.

When Gibson opened the door, he was greeted by a sight that pained his heart once again. His guess was spot on. Hans was still there, and Kiara was smirking beside him.

"Gibson, what brings you here?" Kiara asked with a condescending tone.

Gibson stood tall, trying to maintain his composure. "I want to settle our business once and for all today."

Hans chuckled cynically. "Are you here to bid a good farewell? Aren't you ashamed, Gibson? A loser like you truly deserves this."

Kiara nodded in agreement. "Did you hear that, Gibson? You're nothing more than a lowly employee, even when you were still working."

The pain in Gibson's heart felt like a dagger piercing through his chest. He felt crushed by their words, by the sharp insults. However, amidst all the humiliation, there was one thing he realized; he couldn't continue to be trampled upon like this.

With determined eyes, Gibson stepped forward. "Kiara, I'll take care of our divorce paperwork. We'll meet at the civil registry office tomorrow to get divorced."

Kiara's expression changed dramatically. Somehow, her heart felt struck by an unexpected storm. Kiara should have been happy about Gibson's divorce plan.

"Did you hear that, Darling? After this, we'll be free from that loser," Hans laughed triumphantly.

Kiara only offered a faint smile. Her chest felt heavy with Gibson's words.

Not wanting to see those repugnant faces any longer, Gibson went to his room and began packing his belongings with trembling hands.

Each folded piece of clothing held memories, and each garment was a part of his life story that he would slowly leave behind and forget. But the heaviest burden was facing the fact that the love that once existed between him and the woman who was still technically his wife would slowly turn to rubble.

After finishing packing his clothes, Gibson returned to the living room. He gazed at Kiara and Hans with an unwavering gaze. "I've found a woman who is much better than both of you. I'll soon marry her, and this time, it will be with true happiness."

Hans chuckled cynically, while Kiara's face grew paler in response to Gibson's surprising revelation. However, Kiara was smart enough to hide her true emotions.

"Do you think we'll believe your empty words?" Kiara said, her voice filled with mockery. "Is there a woman willing to be with a loser like you?"

Gibson smiled, but it wasn't a smile of pure happiness. "You don't have to believe my words. I just wanted to let you know. From today onward, you're free to do anything without fear or guilt."

Gibson left the apartment with determined steps. He knew that what lay ahead would be a difficult journey, but he also knew that he had taken the first step towards freedom and happiness.

"What are you thinking, Darling?" Hans asked.

"I'm just thinking about Gibson's words about getting married again. I think he's just boasting," Kiara replied as she turned away from Hans to hide her expression.

"Why are you even thinking about that loser's words? Could it be that you still love him?"

Kiara turned her body around, then smiled while wrapping her arms around Hans' neck.

"What are you talking about? That's impossible. In fact, I regret ever loving him. Just ignore what I said earlier. Pretend I never said that. If necessary, tomorrow we'll humiliate him," Kiara said with a sardonic smile, her heart secretly wanting to burst.

"Of course, darling."

The next morning, Gibson had arrived at the civil registry office early. He sat in the waiting room with a determined expression, awaiting the divorce proceedings with Kiara.

This was a day he never hoped would come, yet once again, he was forced to accept this reality.

When Kiara and Hans appeared a few minutes later, the atmosphere instantly became tense. They never missed a chance to insult Gibson. Their sharp words pierced like daggers into Gibson's heart, but he knew he had to remain composed.

Kiara smiled sardonically. "I wonder how your life will be after divorcing me, Gibson? I'm not sure you can easily forget all our memories. I'm sure you'll become even worse than a loser."

Kiara was confident that Gibson would suffer after their divorce. Gibson remained silent, trying not to respond to Kiara's insults. He was tired of all this.

Suddenly, the door of the civil registry office opened again. All eyes, including those of Gibson, Kiara, and Hans, turned toward the door. There stood Calista.

The beautiful woman they all knew as a super-famous actress. Her presence at the civil registry office surprised everyone.

"Calista! Why are you here?" Gibson asked in astonishment.

Kiara and Hans were equally surprised to see Gibson so familiar with a stunning woman like Calista. Kiara had never imagined that Gibson could be close to Calista.

Calista gracefully walked over to Gibson. "I've come to support you, Gibson."

Kiara was annoyed by Calista's presence. She stared sharply at Gibson. "Who is she, Gibson?"

Gibson hesitated to answer, but Calista then replied with a wide smile. "I'm Gibson's future wife."

Those words hit Kiara and Hans like a bolt from the blue. They had never imagined that the woman replacing Kiara would be a famous actress as popular as Calista.

To prove her words, Calista deliberately kissed Gibson passionately in front of Kiara, Hans, and everyone in the civil registry office. Gibson remained silent, receiving such affectionate treatment from Calista.

Hans looked jealous, observing Kiara, who seemed hurt by the reality. Doubt filled his eyes as he saw Kiara still appeared to love Gibson. In that room, mixed emotions swirled like an approaching storm.

After Gibson and Kiara's divorce papers were signed and approved by the head of the civil registry office,Calista firmly said, "You're divorced from your wife, Gibson. Well then, let's get married right now."
