2 – A Task to Entertain

"So…." Matt looked at the bonfire that separated him from Megumi. "After explaining everything, you still don't want to tell me who the goddess who brought me here is?"

"Again, I'm sorry. This is the agreement we made with her. We can be your staff, but we can't tell you who she is." Megumi rubbed her eyes, which were starting to get heavy.

"You must be tired." Matt looked up at the night sky for a moment. "You've been explaining to me for hours, and I'm asking too many questions."

And some of those questions were just Matt's way of convincing himself. The concept of the multiverse and the gods is still too bombastic for him.

"Can we continue, sir?" Megumi kept smiling. "I want to show you the two fighting organizations the gods and their servants watch."

As Matt nodded, Megumi stood up and opened her notebook. A light appeared from that thing, projecting an image in the air. It's a circular arena, just like a stadium, complete with stands surrounding it, but it looks more ancient.

"This is the Coliseum of the bravest." The assistant explained as the projection displayed two armored warriors in the center of the arena. One carries a sword and shield, while the other wields a lance. "The fighters are former warriors with great pride and dignity. They were truly chosen…."

"Is there another type of fight? What about the championship? Like a belt or something that is contested, you know, as proof they are champions." Matt interrupted the assistant.

"Well, they only have one-on-one like this." Megumi's eyebrows rose. "And there's no championship. The fighters are proud of…."

"Boring." Matt yawned. "Skip. I want to see the other one."

It took a while for Megumi to reply again. "Well, you should note that CoB, or Coliseum of the Bravest, competes with its rival, the All-Savage Show. Their viewership and revenue are almost the same, with the CoB slightly higher."

This time, the projected arena was darker, with flaming torches decorations. However, apart from that, Matt noticed no significant difference from the CoB's venue.

Matt couldn't believe that those shows used bland arenas.

"Ooh, looks like this is getting interesting," Matt smirked as a giant, buffalo-headed humanoid burst into the arena, letting out a terrifying roar.

"It's a minotaur…." Megumi gulped, averting her eyes from the projection.

"That's the opponent?" Matt couldn't believe his eyes. The second fighter was just a man of medium build carrying a sword.

That poor man's body was trembling, and his eyes were full of tears. He definitely didn't want to be there.

Even so, the cheers of the spectators filled the arena.

"Holy shit!" Matt cringed to see what was happening. The minotaur lunged at that man and gave him a brutal beating.

"Th-this is how All-Savages are." Megumi still couldn't see the projection. "Mostly, it's just strong beasts annihilating the weak. There are occasional fights between beasts, but that's rare."

"And this also doesn't have a championship?" Matt grimaced as the minotaur's opponent ran in fear while covered in blood.

Megumi shook her head. "There isn't any…."

"So boring!!!" Matt shouted so hard that Megumi flinched. "No wonder someone wants an alternative show."

The assistant gulped again. "So, what kind of show do you want to make, sir?"

"Not like those crapasses!" Matt got up from the ground.

So, is this his fate? It's not an adventure that awaits him after being resurrected but a task to entertain those mighty beings who need something different.

Yeah, he's still confused, doesn't know his future in that place, and is still worried about the people he left behind.

But his broad smile broke out. This is like the management sim game he usually plays, but all aspects increase tenfolds.

He's barely able to contain his excitement.

"I will make a show that makes the hearts of the gods and their servants tremble!" Matt shouted, full of confidence, both fists raised up. "They'll be looking forward to those fights! I'll get them addicted to my products! I'll create the greatest fighting organization in the multiverse!"

Megumi grimaced at the over-the-top behavior of her boss. "Well, you can start now…."

The woman's speech was interrupted by a loud rumble. At first, Matt looked around to find the source of the sound, but he then realized something when he looked at Megumi. She lowered her head with a blushing face.

The rumbling came again, and the assistant held her stomach.

"Let's see if we can order food through this." Matt took his phone out of his pocket. "Sorry, I forgot that we haven't eaten yet."

***

Megumi had fallen asleep in the sleeping bag, having eaten the sandwich Matt had ordered. Meanwhile, the young man drew something on a large piece of paper, using the bonfire as a light source.

He doesn't care what his office or residence will be like. Right now, what mattered to him was creating an arena of his dreams.

"Great," Matt smirked when he finished his blueprint. "They're going to love this."

He then opened his cell phone to summon another staff.

It didn't take long for him to select someone with the qualifications to supervise construction and organize events.

He gets 10 million credits as the starting funds. Megumi said it was pretty good. But if he could save a bit by hiring a multi-talented individual, why not?

As soon as a dark-skinned man with afro hair landed in front of him, Matt greeted. "Welcome, Mr. Zaa!"

"I will not question what you order, Mr. Nash. As long as it is within my competence." The man was still in the same kneeling position as when he came, in contrast to Megumi, who was face down on the ground at that time. "That's my principle."

"Sorry for my eagerness, but I want this to start as soon as possible." Matt handed his blueprint to his new worker.

Zaa studied that thing for a moment, then scratched his head. "This…. I think I still have to ask a few questions, sir."

Instead of a proper venue, the blueprint looks like it depicts a whole egg with something square in the middle.

Matt shrugged. "Sorry, drawing is not my forte."
