"All I need is Norah, mother. I won't give up on her," Thomas said firmly, looking into his mother's eyes.

Rebecca sighed deeply, her eyes filled with concern. "So, she is the reason you're enduring all this in prison? I suggest we put an end to this and seek Lucas's help. He's the only one who can get you out of here," she urged.

"No, I can't. Doing that would be putting myself down and showing Lucas that I am too common," Thomas replied, his voice resolute.

Rebecca shook her head, frustration evident in her expression. "Thomas, you are being stubborn. Lucas has the influence to help you. Why won't you let him?"

"Because, mother, I have my pride. I won't let Lucas think he has power over me," Thomas insisted.

Rebecca's eyes softened, but her determination didn't waver. "Thomas, sometimes pride can be our downfall. Please, reconsider."

"No, mother. My decision is final," Thomas said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
