Chapter Forty-eight

In the living room of their home, Norah couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. She’d noticed a sudden change in Emma’s behavior towards her of course, all smiles and friendly gestures, but it felt like a façade, anyone could see that.

It was as if a switch had been flipped, and she had transformed from a distant hateful person to someone remarkably friendly and accommodating. Today, she couldn’t ignore it any longer, so she confronted Charles.

“Charles,” Norah began, her voice tinged with concern, “Have you noticed how Emma’s been acting lately? She’s pretending to be so nice to me, but it just doesn’t feel genuine.”

Charles glanced at Norah, his brow furrowing slightly. “I’ve noticed, Norah,” he admitted, “But I wouldn’t read too much into it. Maybe she’s just trying to get our attention. You know how she can be sometimes.”
