Chapter Forty-nine

As the sun settled, Charles, Norah, and Selena gathered around the gigantic mahogany table for a special dinner. Selena had been with them for a few weeks now, even supporting Norah during her hospitalization and becoming a cherished presence in house.

There was a silence, and the clinking of cutlery against plate filled the room as they enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Norah. Charles, enjoying his mother’s company, knew that it was time for her to return to her home and job in the bustling metropolis. He cleared his throat, breaking the quiet atmosphere.

“Mom,” he began, “I think it’s time to discuss your plans for returning home.”

Selena, her eyes brimming with affection for her son, nodded gently. “Yes, Charles, you’re right. I’ve enjoyed every moment here with you and Norah, but I should get back to my life.”
