Chapter Hundred and six
The harsh fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Charles approached the metal door of the prison visiting room. His footsteps echoed in the narrow corridor, each step was a reminder of the months he had spent planning and executing his revenge.

He entered the room, the metal chair sounded with a disturbing metallic squeak as he pulled it back. The air seemed to thicken with tension as he waited for Emma. He held a small envelope containing pictures of happier times in his hands, wondering if the images would stir memories and perhaps any remorse feelings in her.

As the heavy door swung open, Emma walked in, her hands handcuffed, and her face reflecting the harsh reality of her confinement. Her eyes, once vibrant and mischievous, were now shadowed with weariness and shame. Charles hesitated, as he was caught between a desire for closure and the pain of betrayal.

“Charles,” Emma whispered, her voice carrying the weight of regret. “I never thought I’d see you again. Why are you here?”
